  1. I think there was a scene in the Abbott living room where Gloria and Jack had a huge fight, I think it was actually before John dying (he was already hospitalized though). The scene was so intense it had me tear up a bit. I used to have it back then, then I lost all my DVDs and I never managed to find the scene again on Youtube. Does it ring familiar to anyone?

Come to think of it, I'd love to see all those episodes again. It all began with John not being able to see from one eye. It was an eerie premise, I thought.

Why does Alan give two shytes about what these Actors say about their times on the P&G soaps. P&G hasnt carred about them since Ed Tauch left so why should the actors care if they spill Tea. Does Alan believe P& G will hire him again

    I know!! I don't understand either.

I loved Kristi. She seemed genuine. I am annoyed at Locher looking annoyed.

Pam Long gets mentioned all the time, why doesn't he set up one of these with her?!

It's so weird though, isn't it? Sonny, Carly, et. al have ruined GH but you'll still find people who are ride or die for them yet Christine fans are still in the closet. I was pretty indifferent to Chris when I started watching, she didn't bother me or impress me and Lauralee seems like a lovely woman who didn't let being the boss' daughter go to her head.

Maybe a lot of the audience were like me and fairly indifferent to the character and watching for the goings on, not necessarily what was going on with Cricket in a "What is Christine up to?" and more "What could possibly happen to Christine now?"

I agree. I think the audience was indifferent to Cricket. As for LLB, I too think she must be an extremely lovely woman, she's a competent actress and I'd be curious to see her work as a writer. I'd be lying if I said that the exposure to Cricket we've experienced in the classics hadn't felt like overkill...

I've always found it interesting that a character whose rise in prominence aligned with the show's rise in the ratings didn't have any fans. Clearly SOME viewers like her but you get online and you'd swear everyone hated her. Soap forums are really an echo chamber sometimes.

This reminded me of this video. Not that it's anything to go by, but literally nobody was a fan of the character of Cricket.

    She was asked:
    - about her father and if she could influence the writing.

    - about Michael Damien

    - if Cricket would ever become nastier.

Hardly a fan favorite, especially opposite DD and JW who were receiving more insightful questions, I'd say.

Ok, so I actually enjoyed Eva Longoria time on Y&R (despite her looking ashamed of it in the past) and this period of Y&R. Lauralee Bell and Christine also improved substantially during this story.

I liked Isabella! Until they ruined the story with Cricket's black wig, Isabella's fake death and her threatening Cricket's life. Sorry, that was too much. (and it had Jack Smith's stamp all over it)

You can watch below the first episode broadcast in France on August 16, 1989, and the 20-minute presentation of the different running storylines which preceded. France, as well as Germany in 1993, started with the episode #3263 of January 10, 1986.

I've edited subtitles in French that YouTube can automatically translate into English (and in other languages)...

Thanks! Especially for the subs! I love brushing up my French every now and then 😊

Why did Brooke and Thorne break up anyway? Was Ridge just available again so she bounced?

She just decided overnight that she was still in love with Ridge. Thorne overheard Brooke confiding in Megan. And that was it. They were over.

I was so disappointed. Brooke and Thorne were my favorite couple on the show.

Bill Bell was a story consultant with Days through 1978. I believe that was the deal he made to get out of his contract at Days. He stayed on as head writer until 1975, and then stayed another three years as story consultant overseeing the head writers.

SOAP FAN SOLVES MYSTERY OF BETTY WHITE'S THIRD CHARACTER...AND FIGURES OUT "ANOTHER WORLD" SCENE WAS TAPED AT "DAYS" STUDIO...

As many "Days" fans know, Betty White appeared on "Days" as several roles (a teacher and nurse) for an NBC promotional contest back in 1988. I had posted many years ago about a mystery third character named Brenda that Betty is listed as playing on the "Days" parking clearance list.

Soap fan Albert just emailed me this week and solved the mystery! Betty actually played the role of Brenda on "Another World." Since she was based in California, NBC had her tape her AW scenes (which were a phone call to Mac Cory) at the "Days" studio. Trent Dolan is listed as Mac on the "Days" parking clearance, but Albert has surmised he was just standing-in as the character to read the lines to Betty for Mac's portion of the phone call. Douglass Watson, the actor who played Mac on AW, would have then taped his portion of the Brenda/Mac phone call in New York where "AW" taped.

I notice they're airing David Kimble's death on Monday, when they just aired the masquerade as a classic Friday episode some weeks ago. If they were going to show them both, they could have just dedicate a week to that whole storyline and aired a couple a major episodes - tying them together with some bonus cast intros or pop ups of some sort.

I agree but I think they were just winging it. And they still are. They should have realized by now that they should dedicate each week to a storyline.

I'm going to pour a big cocktail before watching this over the weekend.

He's right! My dad - 6'2", owned a landscaping company, loved to fish, loved sports, a real man's man - LOVED Jesse and Angie, Adam Chandler, and Erica Kane. You'd never guess it, but that's what happens when network execs and lazy "journalists" assume.

Absolutely. My father was a truck driver. Obsessed with B&B. Same for my brother.

My Uncle was an accountant and he would not go to meetings or pay any attention to his daughters when Loving was on.

  10. I swear in every single classic there's Christine. I know the same could be said for Victor and Jack, but when it comes to Christine it feels so overkill because her presence is somewhat not organic to the rest of the show. The courtroom scenes are so cringy because you can tell the writers want her to say the good thing and be the good guy, but you can't have that 100% if your character is a lawyer. As a result Christine comes across as a very lousy lawyer, at least to me.

  11. I thought Dru was adorable. Her exchange with John put a smile on my face.

It's so confusing watching Cassandra being in the midst of a murder mystery a minute and then being a businesswoman the next minute. It was equally confusing seeing Nicholas married with children one day and back as a kid the next day. Just release the whole classics already! :P

I didn't know Neil started at Jabot. It's really confusing because in the 1999 episodes posted upthread he was saying to Victor: "You took me under your wing when I was fresh out of college". BTW watching these classics reminded me how hard it was for me initially to understand if Jabot and Newman were in the same building.

I know 2002 was the last great year according to many , but exactly when did the show become utterly unwatchable ? When did all this Liam/Hope/Steffy trash envelop the show?

I think by 2003 they adopted this telenovela format where stories would last 3 to 6 months tops and have no long-term effect... Then by 2005 or so it became the Nick and Jackie Marone show, with lots of unrelatable characters. It's had its moments since - months where the show picked up momentum, like in 2014 or 2015 - but it would never last...

Haha it did strike me as odd that she turned Thudley down for Pratt.

Maybe she was afraid Bradley would have too much respect and clout (from the cast and crew) over her.

As much as Bradley's B&B has sucked for 20 years (though it's had its moments), I think head-writing his father's gem is the adrenaline shot he needs as a writer.

Speaking about YR, how long have the networks been telling HWs the show is outdated, wasn't that the basis for LMLs hiring.

That’s a very good point. Besides, I thought that LML’s very early tenure did energize the show. I liked it.

And I find it tragically funny that these people supposedly want to ‘modernize’ the shows yet they hire 60+ year olds who have been in the business for ages. Nothing against them but it would be great to introduce new blood with people who actually don’t harbor contempt for the genre.
