If the show ever decided to bring back Thorne, they should go with the original. Clayton Norcross looks mighty fine for his age…

He even penned a letter for Lee Bell, a few years ago, to beg for forgiveness and to be brought back on the show. I would totally be for it.

It's amazing he's still living off the popularity of those couple of years on B&B in Italy.

Hahaha - Vickie sure had a biiiiig mouth back then. I also remember the show to tackle the serious angst and psychological issues Victoria was suffering from due to Gary's stalking and the tree house finale. However, she in my memory also saved before things got REALLY bad. Was it Cole who rescued her? I can't remember.

I think it was Victor who saved her? Safe bet lol

I also compiled this a while back as a style guide for a video project I wanted to start a while back, obviously taking cues from Y&R's direction back then.

I was in YR-geek-heaven. Thanks! Great work :)

Does anyone remember when did this exactly air?

I did not remember that scene at all. I quite liked CK's performance as well as VR's.

I have to wonder about these overly dramatic performances though - why are some of them considered 'hammy', or 'chewing the scenery' or 'laughable' while other performances elicit much more respect?

Good question! I think her archetype has not always been the same. Starting in the late 90s (probably around Brooke's Bedroom), she became "the Siren" - the irresistible woman who leads men astray (this was especially apparent with Throoke).

But she wasn't always like that - in fact, what defined her relationship with Ridge for the first decade or so was that she *couldn't* win him completely, no matter how hard she tried.

Early Brooke I see as "in love with love", she has a pretty self-centered and naive idea of romance (it's all about following her heart) and believes in "destiny". But she is pretty complex in the early years and I can't really place her as just one archetype. I think she saw herself as Cinderella, but she really wasn't.

I can't really find an archetype for the current Brooke either, but that is for the opposite reason - they simplified her by making her a siren, and then she outgrew that role and now the character is just a void the writers are struggling to fill.

This is a very interesting discussion and it made me start looking for more archetypal characters and plot structure on the show! (I feel the early characters are probably richer in that regard.)

So far, these are my immediately thoughts.

Stephanie is clearly the Queen, of course. But there is also a Cassandra aspect to her at least in the early years - she frequently sees what is going to happen down the road but her warnings are usually ignored. Oh yeah, and then there's her very Oedipal relationship with Ridge.

Stephanie and Eric could also be Hera and Zeus.

Caroline starts out as the Virgin type, but mixed with Helen of Troy (the woman whose beauty starts a war).

Ridge is Don Juan (he even has a book of women!)

    Thorne/Ridge - Cain/Abel?

Sally is the clever thief + mama bear + the weeping clown

Clarke is the proud, arrogant, self-destructive creative genius who is brought down by his own flaws (sure there's a fitting mythological person but right now I can't place him)

Macy is a mix of Juliet (to Thorne's Romeo) and Eeyore (and also functions as the Spectras' "straight man" during comedic scenes).

Darla is the dumb blonde (but frequently subverts this trope).

    Katie is the Ugly Duckling.

Taylor is the sage advisor (until she isn't).

A more recent example - Aly is Hamlet.

Loved this! Keep it coming! :D

The episodes uploaded yesterday and today had Stephanie thinking Brooke was the other woman...and her disbelief.  And there was a scene between them..that I had a feeling made Bell go 'hmmmm'.

Bell would have long term plans, but left enough room for adjustment if something wasn't working and/or if he saw.something in taping (Lauren/Traci feud on Y & r came about due to this).

Cool! What's the episode number? Is it on YT?

Thanks, since you two both agree on that I'll just rename them and move them into the 1995 folder.

Taylor was presumed dead in a plane crash and discovered by Prince Omar. Meanwhile Ridge married Brooke in that sandcastle ceremony. Omar eventually discovered who she was, but she had amnesia and was known as Princess Layla. Somehow Brooke and Ridge ended up on their honeymoon at Prince Omar's castle, by now Taylor remembered who she was, but was devastated seeing Ridge with Brooke. Omar would make her watch them in the bedroom via closed circuit video. Taylor was also wearing a burqa when she interacted with them, so they didn't recognize her. Taylor decided to just stay in Morocco and marry the Prince. It wouldn't work today because it had a lot of Middle Eastern stereotypes and Taylor was locked away a la Princess Jasmine in Aladdin. Eventually Taylor goes back to LA and reveals her identity (the CALA Classics episodes that were just uploaded)

Thank you! ❤️ I see why people would be hooked.

I mean, I'm happy that it doesn't seem to mean that they're a year ahead in scripting at least. I do wonder if it'll potentially screw up with international broadcasts though - I guess I'll find out and see if it airs/streams here on time in November since we're around two months behind these days. For those purposes I'd assume it would be more efficient to call it 14169A.

I did not know DAYS was broadcast internationally.

Seriously, Eddie Drueding is a God among men.

He's re-uploaded a lot of the 80s episodes to his Youtube channel, including some episodes that I think have never been uploaded before.

Do you think there's any way for a normal person to download all of those channel's vids? 😢

tbh I think the claims that Peter Bergman was against Cliff/Angie are apocryphal. I went looking for evidence of it a few months ago, and instead found a quote on this very site of him talking the story up, in print, in 1999, calling its rejection "pretty devastating." That said he also blamed it on the audience 'only being able to see Cliff with Nina and Angie with Jesse,' which I think is a generous at best reading of something I feel was equally fueled by racism.

I can believe Bergman was secretly against the Cliff/Angie story for popularity reasons, but without evidence I think it's a little convenient. If Debbi said something different on the Agnes Nixon tribute stream I've yet to watch of course I'd believe it. I do think his behavior re: the Keemo story and Victoria Rowell is a mix of simple white privilege/tone deafness and arrogance and distaste with a poor story which isn't that bad compared to shít like Marco. I think it has a racial element in terms of that ignorance. Do I think he's a raging bigot, no, but there's a lot of degrees of ignorant behavior and micro-aggression.

    Love this post. I agree.
