1. Does anyone know how the show is doing ratings wise for Retro?
2. This is when I started getting into GL. Alex was pissed that Alan leant Penelope's dress to Tangie.
3. Sure beats the '80s ball they had the other week on the new Dynasty.
4. Lol, those tinsely neo-flapper hats were in: I have a childhood memory of someone in primetime wearing one too. Someone suggested it was Fallon, I'd have to see the episode again to be sure.
5. I'm pretty sure Celeste Holm left on her own accord, tired of the soap grind, or at least that's what my mother told me according to her soap magazines. I remember thinking it odd that she "left her husband behind." If they did in fact fire her, that must have been awkward with Wesley Addy still on the show having to act opposite his wife's replacement. My mom quipped about how Isabelle's face in the portrait with Cabot kept changing. I think I have an episode on tape of when Cabot came back from the dead, plain clothes and baseball cap on a park bench talking to somebody. I'll post it when/if I find it.
6. Isn't this the actress who played Ina Hopkins on OLTL? When I was in high school, I imagined who else could ever possibly play Erica Kane. For whatever reasons, I came up with Goldie Hawn in a dark wig (wtf? lol) and Anna Stuart. AS based on looks, stature, and the whole diva-vixen thing (I only knew her as Donna at that point). Now seeing her on TD, I particularly see a resemblance to SL, they certainly could have played sisters, Robin Strasser rounding out the three. Tom shaking the [!@#$%^&*] out of Ann in her hospital bed is the height of inappropriate.
7. Yeah, I remember a classmate passing out in acting class while doing a breathing/relaxation exercise and his speech was slurred for a bit when he came to. Never read the comments, as they say, I was so annoyed by what people were typing on the YouTube video, i.e., her faking it. We all know Wendy is extra, anything she does is over-the-top, and an experience as frightening as passing out on live television is no exception. In those brief seconds when the lights go out so to speak and you lose control, your mind races and you wonder if you're just passing out or dying, how long will you be out or will you be out forever, will you be the same person when you come to, WILL you come to...? It's hot under those studio lights, she was wearing a headpiece on top of a wig and a fabric that doesn't look very breathable. Her diet is not the same as it once was. She's been dealing with personal issues. The recipe is there.
8. Tuc Watkins will be in the upcoming Broadway 50th anniversary production of The Boys in the Band: http://www.playbill.com/article/jim-parsons-zachary-quinto-andrew-rannells-and-matt-bomer-to-lead-the-boys-in-the-band-on-broadway
9. I know she's coming, but I almost prefer these Maris-like references to Alexis rather than actually seeing her. I think what keeps me watching every week is pure compare/contrast curiosity. Nothing is particularly gripping. My favorite part of tonight's episode was a jacket Jeff was wearing.
10. She does, that's why her eyes bulge. She explained this to Daryl Hannah on the Red carpet once when Daryl commented on her large eyes.
11. I totally see the resemblance, but that was Birdie Hale in that subway scene. My friend used to work at her agency, he said she was such a sweetheart. I don't remember her on Loving, but she played Minnie when Louise Stubbs wasn't in the role. Madge Sinclair was such an elegant beauty. She and Roxie Roker reminded me of one another. I remember seeing The Lion King in the theatre and smiling when I immediately recognized her voice. I LOVE that they cast her as queen to JEJ's king yet again.
12. Gah! I've got to get on it. Netflix sent a nice little DVD box set of Stanger Things S1 along with The Crown and OITNB S4 last SAG award season and I have yet to watch. Everyone I know has already seen it or is too chicken to watch with me and I kinda don't want to marathon it alone. Her IG warms my heart, I <3 everything she posts on GP. I also follow Victoria Wyndham. I wish Julia Barr, Erika Slezak, Robin Strasser, Linda Dano, and Marj Dusay (for starters) had accounts.
13. Thanks! I was never really a World Turns watcher. I just looked her up. She reminds me of Meg Foster.
14. Who is the actress with the light eyes in the hat/veil?
15. Amanda's accent/vocal pattern used to drive me up the W-A-L-L.
16. Thank you! She seems very familiar but I don't know her from any of those roles. The episode with the tick in the little girl's ear was muoy dramatico.
17. Thanks! What's the name of the actress playing Ann? It's so neat watching Anna Stuart, Julia Duffy and Elizabeth Hubbard, if they'd only knew where their careers would take them. I wish I didn't have to get up so early these days, because the 1am The Doctors block is a great late night treat.
18. I didn't catch the credits, who is playing Mike in these episodes? Doesn't look like AA, though I assumed this was a classic recast/new face situation.
19. They're even advertising the show on Grindr.
20. Oh, so Monica's in it? That's interesting, as Jeff's sister or cousin? Any mention of Cecil/Jason/Philip?
21. I'm going to watch it on demand tomorrow, but I'm with DaytimeFan... I can't imagine anyone else playing Alexis (if the show even makes it that far) without doing some sort of Joan impression or failed attempt to reinvent the Rolls Royce wheel. Her look, the way she moved in clothes, the signature brown paper cigs, I'm just not interested in seeing anyone else play that part which was so perfectly portrayed. I feel similarly about other characters, but Alexis is particularly iconic... just like I'd never want to see anyone else play J.R. A few years back, Esther was talking about a prequel series, a "period piece" Dynasty, which I'd have preferred. Young Alexis and (then) Cassie's relationship, their father, mother, aunt and first cousins Sabella and Francesca; the assorted relationships/affairs/flings with Blake, Ben, Jason, Philip... Sable's rape... Adam's kidnapping... There were so many plot twists brought about because of casting, and a number of single lines meant to establish relationship, all with the potential to be fleshed out into full storylines.
22. Thanks you two!
23. Has Nancy Pinkerton come and gone on the Retro TV airings? I just started today. Also, I'm looking out for a former teacher of mine, Eulalie Noble. Not at all sure when she aired, she's passed now so I can't ask her. Elizabeth Hubbard sure is stunning, I first noticed at the '99 Emmys when they showed clips of the earliest awards ceremonies.
24. Holy [!@#$%^&*]. I sat reading that just shaking my head, mouth agape, heartbreaking.
25. This interviewer is a trip.
