  1. It's true, and maybe it was just lighting and makeup, but I've wondered if she'd had her face done around '86/'87. She kind of has that '80s taut and "done" look in Welcome to My Home.
  2. And AMS, this one's for you : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAE9Stw2vmU
  3. ^^How come we don't hear percussion like that no more?? So in the pocket, love it.
  4. That makes sense Elsa, you gave me a better understanding and I totally see where you're coming from now.
  5. I'd read that about Lydia Bruce, didn't realize it was Berkeley's passing that prompted the recasting. Carl you are so right, they seem so alive and still with us reading that article, you do feel like you're right there. In the replacements thread it says that Susan Harris threw around the idea of Beverlee for either Mary or Jessica (I vote Jessica, just as I would vote Myrna for Capitol... everybody wanted Bevvie!) for Soap. What I think is so cool about that is the inference that she and Susan and Berkeley had a great relationship which we don't always see in such situations. That's just nice to know. I mean, I could be wrong, but I'm assuming here. And if the rest of you haven't already, you must visit beverleemckinsey.com and read those great articles.
  6. I don't really see her as Vicky either, but the choice for Amanda seems totally based on a passing resemblance to Tucci. Only role I could really see RS as was Jenna when Rena was younger, or maybe Cindy (?), the girl who was with Grant towards the end. If Rena cut her hair short too and just kind of let it rip, I could see her playing someone life that.
  7. Wow. That was really nice. And the portions with Berkeley were really special because there's a glimpse of the actor's life that you really don't read about in your average soap star interview. Kind of heartbreaking, the part about giving up the stardom dream, just wanting to pay for life insurance and take care of his son. He really provides a voice for the reality of many NY theatre actors. On a lighter note, Scott at Chicken Delight, ha! For a second there, I thought Joyce was going to end every paragraph with, "They are a perfect pair." Speaking of Joyce, it's funny to glance at the pics without reading the captions, I was like, "Who is this random pregnant woman in the park whose belly he's rubbing?? " and at a cursory glance, I thought Bevvie's fingers were in his mouth in that one pic. Risque. They seemed to have had such a lovely life though. I'm sorry that they lost him so soon. They would of course go on to be even more financially blessed as he speaks about, they eventually had a home in the counry that they enjoyed diving up to for weekends. Does anyone know how long BM stayed in NY before moving out to CA after she retired? I hope she had plenty of friends and was never lonely.
  8. Dallas-Fort Worth and/or Houston seem like obvious choices. Those ladies and their homes are like the funhouse mirror versions of Beverly Hills.

  10. I kind of feel like SN would have been better off offering RH on their website, x amount of episodes uploaded every week and available for a month. Is it still airing at some godawful hour? I try not to think about SN too much, so much missed potential...
  11. **I got a bit of a lump in my throat just watching that again. You can really feel Rachel's/VW's passion, it's all the more powerful knowing Mac/DW was really gone. She's acting with such love and truth.
  12. That's the one. I wonder if that's the first time Rachel ever got physical with Iris?
  13. Yeah, that was Wyndham in that scene. Maybe it's not on YouTube. It'll be someday. RS and VW both seem like tough ladies but in different ways. RS seems more... "difficult", more apt to snap or complain and rub people the wrong way born out of her perfectionism. VW seems more the type who will turn on a dime and cuss you the [!@#$%^&*] out, shooting you a look like your ass just might get kicked when you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing or you come at her wrong. But to VW's own admission, she stopped caring so much when TIIC stopped caring, she wasn't going to give herself an ulcer over a bunch of dodos who couldn't get their [!@#$%^&*] together. But I think she said that after they lost DW, she got back in touch with her passion to a degree and began to take the work more seriously. I remember someone at WoST telling a story about VW. The poster worked at an ice cream parlor in RI (?) and VW was a nightmare customer.
  14. No, I wasn't even born yet. I've just seen classic eps here and there, read some things.
  15. I think this ep is on YouTube, but there's a great one where nasty saucer-eyed Rachel is trying to kick Alissss out of *Steven's* house that Rachel believes he would have wanted Jamie to be raised in. She spits to Alice, "We had a kind of love you'll never know... What son did you ever give him?" Then Liz makes this CLASSIC pained face like "I could just rip tis bitch's face off" and Alice LUNNNGES for Rachel... great stuff.
  16. I know right, and as a matter of fact, I seem to have gleaned that she'd somehow "stole" the bust, like it didn't belong to her/she wasn't supposed to have it.
  17. Also in that ep, Robert takes the fireplace poker to Iris' portrait, that's what she notices (and is horrified by) first. It's a great scene, she actually blames Louise when she first comes on the scene ("Then why have you got that poker in your hand!?"). You can't help but LOL a little when she says re: her portrait, "I can't bear to look at it... I feel as though I've been violated too."
  18. I'd never seen that pic either, her hair is looking extra sleek and chic. I can't help it, whenever I see Rachel and that bust I sing in my head, "Hello! Is it me you're looking for..."
  19. Thanks Carl, fun read! And I see Mr. Ray kept with '70s soap journalist tradition and spelled a character's last name incorrectly. And, "Over her prostrate form the telephone receiver dangled ominously from a nearby table." Love that. This is interesting because it's pretty much a recap. How long before this article did all of this happen? Seems like something that would have been written ten or twenty years later, not a scant few. I have the ep where Robert smashed that bust of Mac to smithereens (Iris: OHHHhhhooo NOOOhohohooohhh!!! The bust of Daddy™... they destroyed that too. How *could* theyyy???).
  20. I bet a lot of soap stars wish it was still like this! The pressure to get it right live on tape must have been ulcer-inducing, but a 10:15 call!? Heaven. And out by 5:15!? Best job in the world. (Except for all that pesky memorizing. )
  21. I like Ellen's girlish voice. She could have played Roya Megnot's big sis. Love my dark brunette vixens. Uhhh, is that Bill Blass? Oh, and Ellen and Cusi Cram REALLY favored one another around this time.
  22. THANKS! OMG, that Casablanca scene was so weird! The visual of Judith all decked out in a wheelchair fake playing that piano with the finesse of a three-year-old and affecting that Nancy Marchand-meets-Sally Kellerman voice, oh my. It got incredibly more interesting when Delia started to dance across the room and snatched the notes. Roscoe Born was so young. Thanks for the WLS interview, I think I only read part 1 and forgot to go back.
  23. "Now I wonder if that's why they went off the air, because, in the words of Eddie Murphy, they partied all the time." Carl, you are a STITCH. I guess you're referring to little Christina ("Jesus Christ..."), I didn't know that she was on The Doctors. I had an "aha!" moment when I realized that was her as the Connors' meek kinda round teenaged neighbor on Roseanne. Her sister was a bad seed who got Darlene into trouble. And it is interesting how much Kimmer and KT have aged similarly. I bet Kim would have loved to play Maggie the Cat, but Reva really was her own great southern belle.
  24. I didn't know that Lenore/Ann was on RH. Interesting. I'd like to check Ellen out, you know, you never think about these things until it's too late. They probably won't make it all the way back to '81 again. If you ever come across anything on YouTube, please link me.
  25. LOL, that was me too until I saw the Loving pilot movie! And even that I was like, "THAT was HER!? "
