He gets the creepy part down. It's weird to wrap your mind around the fact him, Martin, and Laura are related. I don't guess you saw CHINA BEACH? He was incredible in that.

That's what B&B runs now apparently. When people talk about it being the easiest show to watch, the first thing they say is that it takes only 18 minutes out of your day.

Days: July 2023 Discussion Thread
I also thought it was a good day but I often find I like David Kreizman daily script days. Wendy & Tripp are finally seeming to move into real relationship territory & it's working. DanF's iteration of EJ really seems to be growing especially in his relationship with Nicole, where when they're together Ari seems to be light, airy & very beautiful. When they smile at each other & talk intimately there seems to be some magic going on. And I say that even though I think Nicole & Eric is Endgame. EJ seems like a real person with her instead of the petty schemer with & against Stefan. I figured Sloan was going to be pregnant. I'm still not sure how I feel about Eric with her. I almost never understand time in Salem & it seemed weird to me that she represents Colin in court tomorrow! Rafe & Johnny overhearing Jada tell Talia that her love life with Rafe is "The Bomb" was funny, sweet & a little hot. If the Brady Pub's "overheards" could be compiled into book form I guess it would be an encyclopedia set. Melinda Trask & Li (Why is he still here?) looked like they were going somewhere with it & then they crashed & burned & he went home sulking & interrupting Tripp & Wendy & she switched from wine to whiskey neat, keep 'em coming. ... I bet this is a serious chem test. I think this is the third day I've felt like there's just a ton of talking going on. But that can be soapy. I didn't get any LOTDs today. Dialog wasn't so much snappy as sweet.

General Hospital: July 2023 Discussion Thread
Agree. Agree. Okay. Disagree. At least as to Portia's tirade to Spence. She continues to have a lot of nerve & yesterday she pushed the envelope even further. I was amazed that she actually told him she thinks he provides nothing good at all to Trina & that she intimated something improper about his proximity to Esme when she herself continues to court Esme in advancing her mama bear agenda. Whenever Trina finds out what she's done & doing it's gonna be hell to pay. However all I really want out of Sprina is (1) consummation and (2) what is wrong with Taby's voice and/or vocal chords. Since when did hot-blooded 20-year-olds wait to get it on?!

I can assure you that Frank & other unknown higher-ups are intent that Haley will never work at GH in any capacity ever again.

I have said more than once that Frank has a multi-Emmy winning Casting Director & he needs to let the man do his job & not try to do casting himself. Frank ought to know better. It's a flaw.

She could absolutely positively work with an acting coach & a vocal coach & make inroads on her voice.

I mean you ought not to be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a potential woman who acts who could run with this part!! Terrible episode. Maxie getting onto Cody Bell? Gladys reminding Sasha to take her meds, The Metro Court pool has a stabbing 2 days after a shooting?! Who would voluntarily live in this town?

Just finished watching ... she's dreadful. Good looking, not as old looking as she is but too old looking for the part. The voice would need a constant coach's attention. The writing is manic & over the top so she is already screeching, too. There's gotta be so many young women who could take this & run with it. OY!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a rule of thumb that as long as they have a union card it doesn't matter how they are employed by the soap, contract, recurring, under 5, background, etc. that they're all covered?

Thanks, Jason! I know that at the network level they take it down to the very minute. In an essay in "The Survival of Soap Opera: Transformations for a New Media Era" the example is given of network notes saying to stop doing whatever you're doing at 2:47 because they were losing significant audience. The writers had no idea what they were doing at 2:47.

Never thought about it but of course they would because when they began there were many half hour shows. My mother watched ATWT, AW & DAYS so that's what I began watching & they were all half hour. She ended up giving up ATWT after Lin Bolen went to work. I wonder if ATWT lost a significant number of fans due to the network expansion.

General Hospital: July 2023 Discussion Thread
It made me think ... the other day Kristina said, "blah blah a cautionary tale about not getting pregnant early enough ..." And, it is right on point. Medical types say to women with endometriosis that if they'd gotten pregnant when they were 16, that they never would have had this problem. A 100% cure for it supposedly is getting pregnant. I had Stage 4 out of a possible 4 stages. They think the problem is more common now because women delay having babies. Of course if you're 32 & that's what they say to you while you're in pain, you really want to just knock the daylights out of them!! I just went to YouTube to hear Haley. Me, I thought Temp Molly was terrible. Couldn't act. Didn't get better. Had begun to shriek.

Fred Silverman, genius at ABC & CBS & then NBC, 1978-1980, 3 years, with incredible failures: Another World 90 minute show, I mean debacle, I mean total disaster, I mean Epic Failure so much so that an anonymous programmer said they did it because no one could think of anything else to do & the affiliates blamed the show for it. Supertrain, the most expensive TV show ever produced up to that point, a high-profile failure. Also failures The Big Show, Pink Lady & Hello, Larry. But, what good did he do? Hill Street Blues, Sho-Gun, Cheers, St. Elsewhere, The Facts of Life & Today. & the peacock logo. He set the stage for David Letterman even though it made Johnny Carson angry at him. And, he put Brandon Tartikoff in place, who took NBC to #1.
