  1. Okay, we are now horribly off-topic for AW. We can wrap it up or move it to the GL thread. Let's see if I can wrap it up. There are many of us here who are regularly annoyed by errors. One of the most egregious seems to be claims that "x" is the FIRST of "y". I quoted this line from Wikipedia because I thought it was good that they had not done that, instead speaking more generally of possibilities rather than specific claims. That was not cogent to you in your reply. I mention it now only to be done with it. It's a good thing I like research. Agnes Nixon was HW at GL approximately 1958-1966 when she left to go save AW. The Bert storyline in question was uterine cancer, with early detection, because of a Pap smear. The huge implication of the story was that so many women asked their doctors for Pap smears & indeed doctors began to offer them & urge their patients to have routine Pap smears. Generally it is considered her first or one of her first social issues storylines because its import was policy & routine practice. I don't know why they don't tend to put dates on storylines but in fact usually they do not. Now a quote from Schemering p.130 Now, if we are done here, we can get back to Bay City.
  2. This is true. You do have to have some good writing to establish characters for fans to get into. That foundation is crucial. You can't make any of the glue I was speaking of, without a decent start.
  3. Well, I disagree. I believe in general that if soap fans are into the characters, they will tolerate a good deal of bad writing. I think that the combination of the actor they like with the characterization that they are fond of that that is the glue that will cause fans to stick it out through some pretty rough periods. Whereas good writing that is missing that actor/character combo will not keep people watching.
  4. When would that have been? Sounds like I want to go look for it. @JAS0N47 Do you know when this was? 1993? 1994? Any idea at all of month & year? I can go to DT Royalty & find it if I have a starting point & if it is around this time I know where I can get the full episode. Sounds like it would be great fun to revisit it. Thanks, as always.
  5. Well, correct me if this is wrong but didn't Vincent Irizarry play David Chow? If so, what more reason would you need to marry that hunk? 🤔😜 Paul, I know that when I introduced this topic you didn't like it, so I extra appreciate your cotrinbuting!! Yes, you're right. Good catches. The only reason I looked at t his thread was because of the question about Nikki, Deacon & David Chow. And because of Colleen in the Locher room I added Barbara Ryan & discovered to my horror that she has now beaten ATWT's Lisa but I have sworn everyone to secrecy so Eileen Fulton never finds out!
  6. Susan Flannery got the part of Stephanie Forrester on the new half hour soap on CBS, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, and in its first review she got the only good line. "What was strikingly original from the start was the performance of Susan Flannery as Stephanie Forrester - a fascinating alabaster sphinx of a woman."
  7. When would that have been? Sounds like I want to go look for it.
  8. No, I don't know but it just seems like it was probably what happened.
  9. I loved that restaurant & I loved his character & the relationship that seemed budding. Also I've been thinking about these errors, especially claims of "first" this or that. I am often critical of Wikipedia. But I was looking for a place name for something about Agnes Nixon & I happened to notice some phrasing that I appreciated.
  10. 2 guys Victor: Julia, Nikki, Leanna (not legal), Ashley, Hope, Diane, Nikki (not legal), Nikki, Sabrina, Ashley, Meggie (not legal), Diane, Nikki [Y&R] Jack Snyder: Julia Lindsay, Carly, Carly, Julia Larabee (invalid), Katie (annulled), Janet, Carly [ATWT] That's perfect! Love it to the nth degree. And, kind sir, I do thank you.
  11. Elsewhere I've got people saying they don't remember Nikki & Deacon and Nikki & David? What can I tell them that will jog their memories? Or just give them a bit of info they are lacking? If you please. This is a compilation of all the women gathered, in order by show. 12. I'm quite capable of being a true historian of soaps & using the first mention by media as my basis. I also fully acknowledge ATWT's Penny & Jeff's chronological advantage but what if the first coinage of the term is the Time 1976 cover & article? Then calling them a supercouple is a read-back. They couldn't be the first if the term didn't exist yet. But in point of fact I am not too concerned with who is right on this issue. Except for what I believe is the first use of the term being my basis, I'm pretty fluid. And, I also am not calling out anyone's status as a "true soap historian" into question. I think that's just being inflammatory rather than conversational.
  13. That was done quite a lot, on many shows, with many couples. And, the people who did that absolutely hated weddings that did not happen!
  14. Oops. My bad. And some say Steve & Alice. It is something that lots of fun conversations can be had about. And, Penny & Jeff definitely have the chronological advantage! What I'm going on with Doug & Julie is the first mention in media.
  15. When he jumps down out of the loft, well, let's just say I have watched that part of that scene about 30 times!! I loved it when Martha won the Emmy & thanked John for 15 years of sexual tension. It began with that moment simply jumping down from the barn loft. Loved Brian Bloom but suddenly it was "Dusty who?"
  16. Stephen Nichols is one of my guys. It's a very short list! Him, Stephen Schnetzer & Robert Kelker Kelly.
  17. Was he really Todd or was he Todd Lite?
  18. If you didn't see it I think it would seem impossible that he had Doug & Julie want so badly to be together but repeatedly be out of synch with each other's availability. Julie was with David so Doug was with Addie. Then Julie was free but Doug was with Addie. Then it was just shampoo/rinse/repeat over & over with them getting a spare weekend to an island every other time possible. And he created the first supercouple with that formula.
  19. Thanks for the reply. Why is he able to get so much loving? He seems so unappealing!
  20. Thanks! I couldn't figure that out. And third newbie observation: I hate Tucker. That person, that character, is worthless & beneath Ashley to have to deal with him! Did Stephen Nichols play Tucker once upon a time & was he an awful waste of humanity then, too?
  21. Clarice being there was so important. It is certainly engraved in my memory. And, Ada's body went to a different city. WOW. Yes, Pete said it. Dadgummit, he was wrong. And, yes, I still love him but from now on I'm going to fact check him!
