That is insane--all that money spent for nothing. They should have just had Kim Rhodes play Victoria and Cindy. Rhodes would have been great as Vicky.

YEP you are right! Insane. Waste of money!

Very true. Thanks for the laugh.  I never got her appeal on AW

And, I mean they transported her from the studio to her house by helicopter. By helicopter! And, she didn't even work 5 days a week! NO. She worked 4!

I only remember ATWT from like ‘88 at the earliest so Scott Holmes was always Tom to me. At least Justin Deas and Gregg Marx both distinguished themselves in the role and won Emmys for it (when that meant something).

I barely remember any of the Chrises. Good-looking guys, all of them, but those are a dime a dozen in this world.

I remember Chrises at the end but I remember Toms from way back!

    Heather Rattray as Lily Walsh

    Gregg Marx as Tom Hughes

    Hillary Bailey as Margo Hughes

    Lyndsay Frost as Betsy Andropolous

Now, here's a list where shockingly I didn't like anyone on the list.

I mean, the 25 Chris Hugheses on ATWT and 117 Kevin Buchanans on OLTL just feel like a blur to me. Looking back, even as sons of core families, they weren’t that needed over time to warrant so many recasts.

And, I mean, all those Tom Hugheses!

Titan you pretty much took the words out of my mouth.  I watched DOOL, AW and GH.  I never watched GH prior to the early 80's and remember people talking about the actress that played Heather or Laura or Rick.  You never saw a recast on GH from like 1981- 1990 unless it was a child actor who had grown up and show years later and that is normal.    I remember when Christine Jones filled in for Jane Elliot as Tracy Quatermaine and that was the first time I ever heard an intro to a character playing somone else in the 9 years I had been watching the show.  DOOL never recasted either at that time except when minor characters were created.  I believe Kayla and Caroline Brady were seen in a few episodes with different actresses playing them but they were so minor they never even announced they were being recasted.  AW never stopped recasting.  Sallly Frame had dark hair and eyes one day and the next she was blonde and blue and a completely different person.  AW is still my favorite and they were not much different than most Soaps with recasting but I do remember that GH and DOOL never did until after the 90's.  I do also remember I think from like 1987- 1989 the only recast I saw on AW was Anna Stuart returning as Donna Love.  Very unusual for AW as there was constant recasting with characters.

I so disliked Philece Sampler although I had liked her on DOOL, just not on AW. Anna stayed too long in Hollywood. Then they wrote this major story for her return! I taped every day. I still have those videotapes! And. Felicia had hair extensions that week. Boy, was that some hair!

Has anyone else read this article about Irna Phillips?

She mentions Anthony Heilbut's article on radio soap operas, "Brave Tomorrows for Bachelor's Children," which is also a fascinating read. Heilbut is interesting in that he really analyzes the work, and lives, of the writers. Even if his analysis is sometimes more conjecture than pure fact, it's interesting to reading Lynn Liccardo's piece calling out Heilbut for his selective use of material.

Liccardo's passion for Phillips is clear, and I think she really points a more sympathetic light onto the tragic life of Irna Phillips. I believe Liccardo also wrote several other blog entries about her love for "As the World Turns."

I’ve been watching the 1985 episodes available on Youtube, and currently am obsessed with the Marley/Vicky storyline. And can I say DAMN Ellen Wheeler is an acting genius! She plays both of them so well and so differently yet believably!

Well, hell yeah, she is! I hated that they never brought her back & gave her both roles. Did you hear the anecdote about her feet? Some of us were recently watching a SOAPnet Reunion where we got to see Felicia & Wally flying down the hill in a truck, out of control, and they ran into TallBoys. KaBoom! So, Kale asked Ellen if she knew they were always having to check her by her feet. Clearly Ellen did not know what he was getting at. So, he went on with his tale. Anna Stuart was cracking up. They could not tell who they were acting with - was it Marley or was it Vicky?!!!! Here was their clue: Marley stood pigeon-toed & Vicky stood with her feet turned out. Isn't that hilarious?! We have someone over in the Facebook Group I'm in & she (Gloria) was a friend of Brent Collins (Wallingford). She even sat with the family for the funeral. She shares anecdotes with us!

Julie is one of those characters, who despite some OTT acting, makes DAYS feel like DAYS for me when I see her. Soaps need that connection to their history...it even makes the stories richer for new viewers.

Now, here I love hearing you talk about Julie! Did you see the 50th anniversary show they did last fall? It was just so rich & full. Julie was on the phone with her grandparents who were inviting her to come visit for Christmas. Later in the hour Corday let Bill Hayes perform to a live orchestra instead of to tape -- and once again he sang, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" to her & then they kissed. Yay, Corday! Way to go!

Another one for me is Lucas. I think he did a great job recently with Kate's almost death, and I always enjoy the character. I don't understand why he's not full-time on contract. He's sort of the missing puzzle piece that helps round out the Hortons and make them feel like a "real family" since he's Jennifer's brother. Bring him back full-time with a grown up Allie (we need more youth character since almost all that's left is Killer Ben and Ciara). I also think that this, story-wise, would be a great time for Theo's return since to me he and Ciara will always be endgame...it was set up when the characters were "children."

I'd like for them to have him with Allie with him! And, I would love for them to bring Theo back!

That night after that show Julie did a Digest podcast with Stephanie & Mara & she told them that she didn't remember ever looking like that! Very funny. That's what she looked like! It was a good podcast.

I’m also reasonably certain you also copy and paste extremely long lists and blog posts word for word on Facebook in one of the GL groups I’m subscribed to.

On Facebook, I blog soap operas. I have in excess of 235 topics on my blog index. Most of it comes from studying texts. Most of it does not come from copy/paste. More of it is short than is long. More of it is not word for word. My posting at Facebook is different than my posting here. The groups I post in on Facebook are my own Profile Page & Wall; "I Miss Another World; "Talking TV" and "Anne Heche".

For those of us who live in states that support Net Neutrality, it is likely to reinforce actions already in the making (i.e. restoration of the rule) but for those who live in states that don't...

Yes, that's the way it will go.

Yes you are. Are you not able to see the long thread you posted on the last page (which you then quoted!)?  I think you have some interesting insights but when you bring content here from elsewhere your posts are a chore to read because you are not very good at sharing that content.

Okay, I said up front one post was too long & had too much spoiler space in it, so you're right about that one. Other posts were short & just were talk about content. Just a minute ago I used a link & it will be hard to follow because the original convo had so much about story & HWs, etc. with spoiler space & arguments about whether rumors needed spoiler space. Thanks for your comments. I'm trying.

What is the scrapped storyline you are talking about?

The umbrella storyline they were going to do was going to be much longer. I don't remember who was responsible for scrapping it & changing Rose's death so drastically. Could have been network interference, could have been Goutman, could have been HW. I think you can ferret out a whole bunch about it from this Usenet newsgroup link, RATSc etc.

Give me a bit & I'll remember what it's important to tell about it. And, Hi, By the way. Long time no see.

I noticed in the clip where Hoagie was accepting the Emmy that when he thanked Goutman, Marcia McCabe was with him & gave him a big hug & kiss, so they had not split up yet at that time.

Now, Stella and that pit, that was a tale to be told!

  17. If you had to put person or persons on recurring at a certain point, who would you do?

    1. Frank DiCopoulous (Frank Cooper)
    2. Bradley Cole (Jeffrey O'Neill)
    3. David Andrew MacDonald (Edmund Winslow)
    4. Justin Deas (Buzz Cooper)

In order of preference, I would put Frank, Bradley and David on recurring.

If you had to do away with one element of story-telling at GL, would it be

    1. the Santos mob family
    2. San Cristobel Island & the royalty that went with it
    3. Roger's son, Sebastian

I would do away with all 3!

Could this be a confusion of two Susans? I don't find any info re Susan Sullivan and Rita Mae Brown (and she seems to have been partnered with a man for years) but Susan Flannery's Wikipedia page notes her relationship with Fannie Flagg and their friendship with Rita Mae Brown.

I wasn't talking about their personal relationship, @Toups.  I'm sure Sheffer was wonderful to a great many people in his life and career.  Most everyone who

Going by Tommy's Eulogy he was really a giving, generous man.

Again, as engaging as Sheffer was with everyone, the man simply had no business BEING in this business.
