    Loved this.

Excited this morning to run into ex-SPW Editor Mimi Torchin's FB post about Diahann Carroll:

So sad to learn that the great Diahanne Carroll has died at 84. I saw her in one of my earliest Broadway shows, No Strings, and fell instantly (that voice, that face!) and lastingly in love with her. She was a great talent and a trailblazer,  and she will be missed. ❤️🙏🏻😢

Yes, trailblazer, there's another adjective we can add to the long list that begins with legend & icon.

We went to Pine Lake's Lakefest today & all up & down the street people made a point to come see me & hug on me, see how I am, tell me how good I look & that they love my purple hair. I got a beautiful print, a small one, to put in my room. I got a kingfisher earring. The kingfisher is Pine Lake's bird. It's been Labor Day 2018 since I moved into the Personal Care Home & so people were really glad to see me! Okay, this was definitely OT.

Here's a kingfisher. They are tiny little colorful birds that dart into the water to catch fish. You might be wondering why I live in a Personal Care Home: I have Parkinsons Disease. I was diagnosed in Aug. 2012 & had a long honeymoon period with few symptoms. But, that's all over now.

When Olivia was married to Alan but Alan was in the hospital, Phillip & Olivia had a love scene in her hotel room that was, yes, smoking hot. She kept him from leaving & stripped his shirt off of him. Then he picked her up. Then, she wrapped her legs around him. Then he took her top off her. Finally they ended up between the bed & the wall. And, his torso completely covered her from sight. The videos in youtube are labeled SPARKS IGNITE! They were both in black undies.

Okay, from what I've found out, Bruce Barry directed this scene. That man was good. And, of course Grant & Crystal were.

The past several movies I've seen, in the theatre: A Star is Born with Lady Gaga, wonderful! and then, Bohemian Rhapsody also wonderful. After that I have a streaming list. About to have company, will post that list after.

I streamed Rocketman, too. Very good movie.

  5. Wendy Crewson is a very talented Canadian actress. She's also gay & lives with a partner. She used to live with a man & I think they had children. Today I got a new kindle fire & I just had to call my Internet provider to get a name & number for its wifi p/w. I had to sit on the floor with a flashlight to get that data. Then, I had to climb out from behind the computer. LOL! All this because 2 weeks ago I lost the kindle I had! That one was a kindle fire 3. This one is a kindle fire 2. I have no idea why! But, my books are on there. Melissa got me a free Mary Oliver book today on DOGS. We went to Pine Lake's Lakefest today & all up & down the street people made a point to come see me & hug on me, see how I am, tell me how good I look & that they love my purple hair. This is a very interesting discussion which I wish I had come across earlier.  comedian/writer Paul Mooney posted this on his social media and I'm in the process of watching this.

When the topic turned to the audience for daytime TV and how much of that audience is made of Black Americans, then led to the question of why blacks do not have more of an imprint (other than Oprah/talk show) on the daytime television landscape, my thoughts immediately went to the daytime network soaps and the problems we've been discussing on this board about the dearth of truly compelling stories with impact for black characters overall on the daytime soaps. On the supposedly #1 daytime drama, it is particularly abysmal and has been so for years now.

Anyway, Ms. Carroll is a delight here.

I think people can easily mistake care in appearance with not caring about anything or anyone, rather than not understanding for many (especially of older generations) it was a way to show pride in themselves, because in some cases that was all they had, and if they didn't believe in themselves, they knew no one else would.

I saw this interview earlier today, and she spoke about how much effort it took to convince the people behind Claudine to trust her to play the part, because they assumed she had no idea of the world Claudine lived in. She said she'd grown up around women like Claudine, had had them in her family.

The show was probably even more controversial at the time than now, because there was no focus on militant views (and I think Diahann may have chosen to end it partly because of those changing times), but when you think about a lot of what has come since, so much trash TV and so much exploitation, you have to respect the effort. And, as she says in the interview, she used the show to give actors like Diana Sands an opportunity.

Thank you. This was so good to get to see.

I enjoyed the fast pace of the week. Just some funny oddities:

    4. Jack/Eve - wish we'd have more chances to see KDP do less screeching. This seems to be a DAYS theme: Eve, Kristen, Vivian are given way too many scenes that are just unhinged and all three are played by actors who have the ability

I really liked Jack's scene with Eve, also Jack's scene with Jennifer. It's refreshing that Jack has his memory back. Before I had gotten  SO tired of Jack & Eve together. This works.

It does bother me how much some fans hate Julie. I wish she had better writing. Doug and Julie are staples and need to be treated as such. I know Jarlena fans want them to be Tom and Alice (and they're working on but they are NOT there yet) but that's Doug and Julie right now. Sorry fans don't like Julie but I'm tired of fans being unable to separate actor and character and I'm tired of rabid couple stans (I LOVE Stabi) taking their anger out in ridiculous ways. It's just a [!@#$%^&*] soap opera. It's not the end of life itself.

Well, that is certainly true. Doug & Julie are definitely part of town &  part of history.

This is shocking. RIP, Hogan. I loved his ATWT. He infused the show with humor and gothic elements. More importantly, he raised the stakes in the show’s storytelling. It was obvious that he was dealing with network interference in 2004 and onward. In fact, Rose’s death was to have sparked a huge umbrella story involving Holden, Lily, Dusty, and Molly, but the network nixed it. The show had to scramble, and I’m guessing that’s why the Cabot story dragged out. Whatever the case was, I loved most of his stories and how he wrote Barbara, Carly, Jessica, Jack, Hal, and so many others.

I was one of a bunch of fans who were pissed that someone made that umbrella storyline & Rose's death get scrapped with a capital S!

This will take place 20 years after the events ST:Nemesis. we will see a completely different Picard, who has retired and is in the next stage of his life. This will be a CBS All Access show.

Well, hell, I absolutely hate and detest CBS All Access. They shouldn't be putting shows on CBS All Access. They should do away with CBS all Access.

Eccleston always deserved a lot more credit than he’s gotten.

I liked Tennant, but preferred the overall direction the show seemed to heading with Eccleston. By the time Smith took over, it was too late to course correct the overwhelming focus on the Doctor as an object of romantic affection.

I find less and less to like about RTD with each rewatch. He was incredibly self-indulgent. Moffat was as well, but I thought he hid it a lot better until he lost Amy and Rory, his first Companions.

I liked Eccleston & was entirely suspicious that they ran him off. Tennant was my favorite. Happy with him with Rose & Mickey. Happy with him with Martha. Liked Matt. Liked Amy Pond & Rory. Adore Alex Kingston. Liked the new female Doctor. Just didn't want them to go on hiatus!
