Wasn't that supposed to be the alleged Weiss clan that was supposed to come on in the early 90s?

    I hated him.

Yes, I hated him, too. And, then, if we apply the question to Roger Howarth instead of to Todd Manning, well, I found Roger's Paul on ATWT a great disappontment.

Did Pamela K. Long go to OLTL directly from GL? And, at OLTL, she wrote the Kramer women, that matriarchy, strong & interesting & female instead of male, right? And, then, she wrote the Rappaports, too, right? How many FOJs did JFP turn into Rappaports? Kale Browne & Larry Lau? It's just a wonder that she could find enough FOJs to go around at times!

  2. Not that I think she is the worst, I think she is one of our better EPs, an excellent Director, a remarkable actress, one smart cookie, etc. but, anyway,

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELLEN WHEELER!

And, I missed it yesterday, so one day late,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOAP OPERA NET COMMUNITY!

It was.  I read an interview with Susan Pratt and she mentioned Hoffman visiting the set, interviewing some of the cast and watching filming, hanging backstage, etc.

Oh, thanks. They really did a good job with that then!

  4. Laurence Caso Wiki 2 Quote/unquote, handwrritten

Larry was noted for being the ATWT EP from 1988-1995. He won an Editor's Award. During the 1988 WGA Strike he acted as HW for the show. It is widely believed that CBS - with the assistance of P&G - engineered the infamous 3 show producer shuffle. Fans call that nightmare a fruit basket turnover. In 1996 someone from ABCD offered the Creative Consultant to Caso for The City. He declined. After he left Lucy Johnson was brought on to take his job. - As if -!

To be fair, ATWT was struggling after Marland's death, but Caso was doing the best he could and that era after Marland's death definitely isn't as bad as some make it out to be or what later came.

JFP was fortunate to have great writers like Nancy Curlee, Stephen Demorest, Patrick Mulcahey, and Courtney Simon for the first half of her GL tenure. She never worked with a group of writers of that caliber again on any show she would later produce.

Harley with a Jewish man, sounds interesting.

Sad to say the last movie I saw was Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I found it very funny and plan on buying it when it comes to DVD. I have an extensive video collection just no time to watch them lately. Haven't had time to go to the movies either.

We have Mr & Mrs. Smith unless we got rid of it. Jolie & Pitt are good in it.

JFP was sent to AW, John Valente was sent from AW to ATWT, and Laibson was hired at GL. Laurence Caso was fired at ATWT (shame, he was the probably the best of this bunch).

None of them lasted very long, but in JFP's case, she was eager to leave P&G for ABC. With Valente, it was speculated that he hated ATWT and never wanted to leave AW

    Very true about Caso!

JFP gutted AW's heart like she did at every show she's been on. Sigh.

    Boy, did she ever!

In another thread, we were discussing/imagining a Ken Burns style documentary on the history of the Daytime drama and, in the back of my mind, I immediately thought that Laurence Caso should be included in any documentary on the subject because he strikes me as someone who would be insightful when asked questions.  The rest of them (that are still with us) seem highly defensive and egotistical (ahem, I'm looking at you, JFP and Goutman)

    Very true about Laurence Caso!

I'm wondering when McLaiby's content takes over. I remember the end of the horrible ghost story (Reva fans, you aint seen nothing yet) and it immediately cuts to Reva coming out of her coma, and I know the Laibson signed Kimmer not JFP. I think it was an interesting time on the show.

Was this right after the "fruit basket turnover"? when the positions of the 3 different EPS was flipped?

  9. "On daytime" I came from prime time, and originally I had very little understanding of daytime. When you look at it, it seems to be a little bit slower, so there tends to be criticism in that regard. But the reason it appears slower to someone used to nighttime is because its stories are told in real time. It is slower because the characters are living life in that moment. Daytime drama does not limit its range of emotions, or its scope of storytelling. We are only limited by what we can do in a studio, and I have found that we can do pretty much anything. The story must have a heart, a soul, and a purpose, whether its adventure-driven or issue-oriented. Daytime must reach deep inside the viewer's heart and enable a person to connect with the characters. The audience wants a personal, human connection, and when they get it, they are devoted. --Wendy Riche, Executive Producer, GENERAL HOSPITAL. THE MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO WORLDS WITHOUT END THE ART AND HISTORY OF THE SOAP OPERA (1997) Harry N. Abrams, Inc.

Speaking of Wendy Riche, who I have just quoted here, why in the world did they fire her?! It seems to me that she was such a success for them.

Yea, even when Gloria Monty didn't have great writing, her show, for me, was not to be missed.  I literally was glued to the show for 10 years.  And she had that eye for chemistry that extended beyond Luke & Laura: she also gave us Robert & Holly, Frisco & Felicia and Duke & Anna.  And after Laura's rape, there was never another rape on GH under her tenure.  I give her credit for that.

Who was in charge when Elizabeth's rape happened?

  11. Making the Connection Between Brain and Behavior: Coping with Parkinson's Disease Paperback – July 23, 2013

This author was a journalist & then he became a technical specialist & then he was diagnosed with Parkinsons.  Great book.

For #7 I'd have to list a whole stack of soap opera books! I've had them for years & the list grows. In 1998 I said that my hundreds of soap books were my dowry.

My next book, also has no movie to go with it. Just a fun little book, Harriet the Spy. She ate tomato sandwiches. So do I.

My next book, also no movie but they could make a great one! This is by Todd Fisher, writing about his mother, Debbie Reynolds and his sister, Carrie Fisher. At times he mentions his wife, Catherine Hickland. The book's name is My Girls.
