  1. Enjoyed reading your thoughts @Brolden  you are making me want to give the show another rewatch

Jo and Billy had an interesting dynamic season 1, I remember she used to call him Bill all the time. Definitely would've been an interesting pairing

Darren Star said on the DVD's that they got rid of Sandy because it was annoying having to write a character in show business. I liked her once they killed the accent, the episode where she gets a stalker and the one where she got a part in a movie and forced to take her top off are two of my favorites from season 1. I'm in the group who always liked the young adult moral of the week 90210 format of that season. Like @te. pointed out once Darren leaves they lose that element of morality and realism and its when the show ventures too far into nonsense camp. Still watchable but not as interesting, especially with the cast departures happening soon after.

In theory this should have been a much easier show to keep going with cast shifting but the newer character were never developed well they just got launched into stupid stories to fill the void of the ones they were replacing. Sam, who is probably my least favorite character of all time was the last one to really get properly folded into the show dynamics but she sucked lol, just awful and such a blatant replacement for Jo.

Allison and Billy are also my favorite couple in the show and I still feel robbed we didn't see them end together. The episode where they first have sex is another all time favorite and the triangle dynamic with Amanda I think is one of the shows best.

Doug Savant and the show don't get enough credit for Matt being one of the first gay characters you saw prominently on a show.

Aw man I LOVE Michael Mancini lol both the nice guy and sleaze ball he turned into. Jane is another favorite but they went too far into not wanting her to be written as a victim.

  2. This is the most I've consistently watched since this regime started so I'll give them some credit and say they've been doing something more right lately

I think JG more than any recent showrunner has put vet characters like Michael, Lauren, Paul, Jack, Victor somewhat to pasture. They've either not been on at all or showcased in really weak secondary positions to their offspring.

  3. MO works best when they play up her Abbot/Newman angst. These constant 9 month fail pairings they love to put her in never work out and always end with her love interest getting the axe (Chance is definitely about to fall into those footsteps, he reminds me of the last failure of a Scott recast).

Phyllis looks pathetic roaming around a hotel she's been fired from competing with Abby of all people over a guy who could be her son.

  4. I watched the last couple of episodes (show looks much better on Amazon prime than the CBS watch app) and it definitely looks like they're getting rid of Tessa. I say good riddance

Chelsea is more watchable with Adam than Nick so I'm glad they ended that pairing for the new year. One thing I appreciate about MCE is she always comes to the acting table, Morrow doesn't so that made the whole Chick pairing such a failure for her.

I'm glad they took that wig off of MM but I miss how Mal let her wear it natural. This Billy pairing is dry she should just be Hillary. Feels like a last attempt for Jason Thompson

I like Summer and Kyle but not Theo (ew at Griffin anchoring him to the Brooks and Abbot's) or Lola. So this quad kind of sucks.

I wonder if people like that or Sara Bibel would be afraid to take the gig in fears they'd end up fired. It doesn't seem like it's easy to be HW for this show. Maybe seeing the level of interference causes people not to wanna rock the boat. Could also be Steve Kent and other higher ups wanting a more proven name. The HW choices all suggest that. The only wild card was MAB. Being realistic, giving Dena Higley a chance makes sense when you look at who is available from the pool they will be willing to look at. They won't hire a Hogan Sheffer from outside of soaps, no newbies, nobody black so it's limited to the merry go round writers. Carlivati is taken right now (unless they try to steal him during the contract lapse), I believe David Kriezman has another gig as well, Megan McTavish seems retired and Barbara Bloom is currently working at GH. I'm not sure who else from the merry go round is currently available. I also feel like Pratt currently has a gig.

If they're gonna recycle I want Guza and Meg B

  6. He PLAYED himself. The little I saw of the pairing with Traci was horridly bland but a smart actor would have worked it for everything he could and slotted himself comfortably into the Abbott canvas. The best story SSM did was turning him back into a failing con man with ho tendencies and his dumbass went and riled the Lane stans up so he could go back to undressing CK in that ugly Ashby living room. He has been given chance after chance for no reason other than certain viewers fetish for interracial pairings. Lily spent her entire 20s on the show chained to this clown and forced to mother teenagers at 30. The Winters clan had to deal with this bozo taking up all the air in their storylines until they were all finally run off the show and KSJ died. I will never forgive him, the Lame stans and TPTB for forcing this dingo on us all these years. I hope this firing sticks and they kill him off for good.

I felt that same way with Graham’s death after stealing chemicals from the Jabot lab to frame Ashley for killing Dina. Ashley should have gone to trial for his murder, and even, later on, tying in the angle many here proposed: that Graham had been drugging Dina to make it appear that she had Alzheimer’s. But instead they closed that story with a total anticlimax, as if Graham never existed. Such a wasted opportunity.

Yup yup yup. These shows have 5 episodes a week to really squeeze juice out of drama yet they run through all of the good stuff or don't even touch it, its baffling.

  8. Granted I'm only seeing the resolution but this Victor fake death story seems super uneventful. They should have stretched this for a couple of months, Victoria should have gone to trial, Summer and Adam should have completely spiraled, etc. This is just lame like everything JG comes up with.

Stafford is like a bad parody, just horrible to watch stink up the joint with her one note parlor tricks.

Now back to the only reason I tuned in, I hope they aren't going to keep that loopsided wig on top of Mishael's head. Cane getting all the money makes no sense unless he's the one behind the whole scheme but I doubt they'll even go there. I hope they've cast somebody decent for Chance because we're missing a huge piece of the puzzle without him on the canvas to fill out this story.

  9. I went ahead and watched Mondays episode (well the Amanda scenes anyway).

    Spoiler

I see what Mishael was talking about when she said she has to put a new spin on the dialogue because a lot of the writing is just snarky Hilary with a law degree and a bad wig. I'm sad they've written it so that there is no way she can just end up being Hilary but they can still bring her back from the dead and just 86 this character so thats what I'm pulling for.

Devon's non reaction to her looking just like Hilary is so weird. I see they were chem testing Mishael and nuNate and they kind of had a nice lil banter. I liked her scenes with Brittany too (I LOVE Lauren Woodland and I'm glad she's still popping up here and now)

Cane is a damn scoundrel and I hope he's the one who set all of this up with Chance
