  1. I hate that Griffith has finally figured out how to keep the vets happy enough they aren’t complaining and not write any storylines so offensive viewers go on a mass strike. Even the couple stans don’t have any pitchforks out. We can’t know for sure but it seems like the budget is under control too

He might be keeping the lights on but he’s an awful show runner creative wise. There hasn’t been one satisfying storyline or solid payoff since he returned. It feels like the show is in stasis.

  2. @LondonScribe absolutely agree, fantastic episode. Still incredibly soap while handling various issues of being black in a mixed community in a way that felt very real, I’m impressed.

I haven’t seen colorism tackled on tv the way it was with Gina and Anna, major props to the writing team and the actresses for going there.

Poor George! I had kind of pieced the victim being his birth father together but it was still a good gut punch when it landed.

The moms reveal at the end was so good lol, I just really enjoyed all of this.

Semi-me. When Mal Young left I tuned out, and only tuned in upon the announcement of celebrations / returns, etc. and the allure just... fades.

Same tho I left with Mishael Morgan’s Hillary. I have never been able to stomach a full JG showrunning stint. Pick the show up for a few weeks and lose interest fast because the writing never goes anywhere interesting.

Was he the one who started Adam gaslighting Ashley or was that Hogan? Ashley losing her head is an interesting idea same with Nicki falling off the wagon but you can’t trust JG with good execution.

Getting rid of Hilary Curtis remains one of the most idiotic decisions that Y&R made in the last decade, and that’s saying a whole lot.

Mal Young’s dumbest decision. I still wish for a recton that she’s in a coma somewhere and Phyllis and/or Neil staged her somewhere because she asked them too so Devon would

    move on easier.

No. Not a hard no if we couldn’t get JJ back at all but still no.

I remember JJ saying he would’ve renewed his contract during his second series regular run but when he asked JFP for a break on the heavy emotional material she wouldn’t budge. She loved chasing the great actors off by working them to the bone, SJB gave a similar story to MB on his podcast when talking about her Carly exit

  6. Fantastic news. I’m guessing the stark quality difference of the writing and pacing during the strike episodes sealed the deal on Chris and Dan’s exits, and good riddance.

Getting Patrick Mulcahey and E. Korte as replacements is a gift I wasn’t expecting, my goodness! I hope they get some new script and breakdown writers in so we can get back to that pre-Frank and Ron writing quality. I will be tuned in

  7. Honestly I think this is the best this writing regime could come up with. They rely on exposition a lot to fill time, very tell not show. Its why so much of the drama falls flat day to day and why I found the strike team episodes much easier to watch. Scripts always feel like they read some cliff notes on character history as opposed to really knowing and understanding the dynamics and write to them. Jackie deserves better than this

  8. Sonny slamming the door on Nina made me bust out laughing. That was probably the only decent moment of the show for me. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to keep watching for this Bobbie death story cause today’s episode was even worse than the previous in terms of feeling hollow.

Did we really need to pause on Carly grieving to see her and Drew ream in on Nina? It wasn’t even a good dragging either, they came off awful and I say that as a proud OG Carly apologist. Laura and Cynthia did great with what they were given but yeah, it was all very womp womp

The reveal of Bobbie’s death to temp Joss and Michael also fell flat for me. Whoever said the script writing is just so generic you don’t feel a real connection with anything was spot on. RIP to characters having distinct voices

I think Maurice Bernard’s son is a decent actor. He’s obviously only on to get another IMDB credit and master script memorization but I’m intrigued. I’ll be sure to tune in for his inevitable turn to full on crazy

i know other stuff happened but I already forgot and I just finished watching the episode on Hulu five minutes ago. The strike writers were much better

Watching today’s episode and man this show does not let any of the emotional stuff breathe at all. I’m really trying to give it a chance but the immediate cuts during the Carly scenes when Laura is really giving it her all, gosh it totally kills this.

Yeah I was really disappointed at how this episode was put together. Soaps used to always get these kind of things right but the emotion was just not there for me because of the stilted script, directing and haphazard pacing. LW did a great job but they should have let those scenes breathe and given CM less talking. I didn’t want to hear so much of Carly recollecting what her fake last moments with Bobbie on the phone were or hear Drew constantly telling her how much Bobbie loved her. I just wanted to see Carly feeling the loss and some good flashbacks and it just fell flat for me. I hope the next few episodes are better paced

Laura Scotty Lucy and Kevin finding out could have been directed better as well it just felt so point a to point b, appreciated the flashbacks tho

This Nina and Sonny fallout was boring, he doesn’t even seem all that upset just mumbling for nothing. Her telling him he just wanted Carly to yell at her cause he couldn’t bear to do it was just??? The Sonny I knew would be throwing bottles of liquor and kicking her out the penthouse.

Michael and Willow are a SNOOZE fest my goodness. Kill this girl off Michael needs a wife to carry on the dysfunctional marriage legacy of his parents and grandparents

Jane Elliot is great and managed to make dry material watchable

I don’t like this Nik recast at all

I’m gonna try to watch the rest of this Bobbie storyline but I have a very low tolerance for this writing regime, they give JG a good run for his money in writing lackluster drama

Hm, interesting. It didn't feel like the show was stalled, at least not in the second part of the year that I watched. Lots of stuff happened which is leading to the Christmas murder(s)..

    Agreed.

Excited about tonights episode hopefully I won’t have to wait too pong for the BritBox upload.

    AGREED

Has there been a temp actor/actress that you liked in a role & wondered why why the soap didnt cast them when they recast a role years later

There was a temp Abigail recast on DOOl around the time Ashley Benson was wrapping up her stint and I remember really liking her and wondering why they wrote the character off instead of keeping them. She had scenes with Matt Ashford and Abigail and Jack were out of town for some reason.

  12. Really stupid move. Recasts like this rarely work but Krista was fantastic in the role and gave Taylor new life. Seemed like as soon as Thorsten came back from his vacation Bradley just wanted to stick with boring ole Bridge and cut all of the interesting fire KA/TK/KKL were bringing. I knew when the attempt at Deacon and Taylor kind of fizzled that Krista was probably headed for the backburner but this is such a shame. They should have tried Taylor with Dolla Bill or hell Liam ot Zende to shake things up

  13. Gina Tognoni - When Phyllis confronted Jack about his relationship with Kelly in the Abbot living room, from that moment on she was officially Phyllis for me. I miss her every time I watch.

Laura Wright - When Carly and Robin first argued at the Metro Court and Robin slapped her. There was a certain nastiness to how Laura played it all that was so SJB coded in a way TB never touched for me, I was sold. I watched her State Of Mind with Maurice Bernard and she said JFP told her after a year to stop pulling so much from previous portrayals but there was a certain grit to her performances then that got lost afterward that I loved so much

  14. I can’t believe they made me care about Karan but this kidnapping exit story was great. The big reveal at The Vic where her and Keanu are just looking at each other and she gives him the okay to throw her under the bus was brilliant acting. I love that her and Mitch still ran off with Phil’s money at the end too, I’m actually gonna miss her now but the show could use a new family in that house.

@MichaelGL yeah the Nish/Eve/Ravi scenes were fantastic as well and I typically zone out during Eve & Suki material but they got me that week. I’m glad Ravi didn’t kill her and agree he’s a good anti hero character.

I love Sam and glad she’s back but I hope they put her in a new orbit now that it looks like Stacey is about to hunch on Jack ( Denise is an awful wife and character so I don’t blame him if this is where things are headed).

I don’t think I commented on Kathy and Rocky and the cafe fire but that was really solid story especially Cindy lashing out the way she did.

I also really liked Jay’s spiraling out and Gina’s involvement trying to help, she’s become my favorite of the Knight fam especially with how she supported Linda.

Speaking of I hope the six kill Dean so we can be done with him and any more of Shirley’s unfortunate offspring. I hate how the UK shows always have one creepy rapist always lingering around the canvas, its gross.

What Bee & I are referring to is that if you get behind, then the closing credits begin but very quickly stop & it moves on to the next day. Have you ever been behind to experience what we're talking about? I assure you that it is what happens if you watch from a behind point of view. Doesn't happen if one is watching timely. Does it make more sense to you now?

Anyway, you can test it if you want to. Just pick any day last week, as long as the next day has played, and run it to the end & watch. You'll see.

Theres a cancel thumbnail that appears at the bottom corner of the screen that you can hit 10 or so seconds before it skips to the next episode to watch the full credits but I find it annoying as well.

  16. I’m not mad at the idea of all this but the pacing is absolutely horrendous. They ran thru what should have been 3-6 months worth of story in a couple weeks and missed so many beats. We should have seen Claire/Eve inserting herself into Victoria’s life not just Nicki’s. Wrecking things for her then feeling guilty and yearning for the family connection. Aunt Jordan could have come to town and befriended Nicki for weeks slowly gaslighting and tricking her into drinking. Like come on basic soap pacing.

Watching the big reveal felt so unearned and rushed. I hate that JG will probably be the shows last idiot in charge because he just always fumbles the ball in the least interesting way.
