I like his framing of this as a "white power" movement. "White power" is simple messaging that's impossible to refute. It also invokes a long ugly history.

An interesting and well-written report of what's happening on the ground in Georgia. (gift link so no paywall) https://wapo.st/3gF7ObT This is the part I find most interesting... “I am currently doing an internship out of state, and I didn’t receive my absentee ballot in time to vote for the midterms, which I was quite upset about,” said Katie Poe, a masters student. “I’m in town for the holidays, and voting this Saturday is my only chance to actually vote in person, and maybe vote at all reliably.” “I’ve had a lot of trouble in the past with absentee voting. It’s kind of disheartening to only be able to vote when I’m here, because it’s so important to me, ” she added. “I’m a college student in school in Boston, and this is pretty much my only opportunity to vote in person. So I had to get out and vote, it’s a long line, but we’re waiting as best we can,” said Catherine McBride, a senior in college from Cobb County visiting home for Thanksgiving. ------------------------ It's very clear that the GOP was banking on "losing" absentee ballots of people away at school but since they came home for Thanksgiving they were able to vote anyway.

There's always going to be those people. Dave Chappelle is on tour with Chris Rock right now. If Bill Cosby was touring right now he'd be selling out (smallish) venues. Then there's Ice Cube who always shows up to suppress the Black male vote. Every marginalized group has turncoats, sellouts and grifters. It doesn't help that contrarianism has turned into a pseudo religion among The Very Online.

Question I'm putting here because I don't know where else to put it. I don't see status updates anymore and was wondering what happened to them. I just wanted to drop some Thanksgiving greetings to the community. I hope you're all having a good one.

The truth is that GOP voters don't really care about kitchen table interests either. They just use the economy as an excuse to vote for white supremacy.

It was neither. It's the electorate. Ohio is a blood red state now as the electorate has gotten older, whiter, and less educated. I don't believe it's possible for a Dem to win statewide here anymore. That includes Sherrod Brown. If he wins in '24 it will be by the skin of his teeth. The GOP swept every statewide race and the numbers weren't even close. I consider the fact that he only lost by seven points to be a miracle.

For some reason YouTube served up Myrtle's funeral for me. I really miss Pine Valley.

There's this tendency among some on the left to always blame someone for not stopping the madness around us. They blame Oprah for Oz, they blame RBG for Roe falling because "she should've retired" they blame Gore for accepting the results of the 2000, etc... It's a childlike response from people who never understood that you need to show up every time. They are essentially demanding to speak to the manager. It's ridiculous.

This originally appeared in the NY Times. Anything the NY Times says about Democrats should be discarded.

A fascinating thread about Biden taking China on. This is what can be accomplished when people government are focused on making government work for the people and not there to build their brand, enrich themselves personally, or turn the country into a Christofascist hellscape.

Youtube's algorithm served this video up to me and it just feels like I'm being taunted. I miss this show so much. I miss these characters and actors so much. Taylor Miller's Nina is deep in my heart. Cliff and Nina were my first supercouple.

The PASEN race makes me sick. Both Fetterman and Oz are egotistical, mendacious idiots. No matter who wins, voters - especially Black voters - in Pennsylvania lose.

My guess is that he will tell people that it's not DOJ policy to comment on investigations and he's not going to no matter how much they ask. If anyone has a problem with that they need look no further than what's happening in Cincinnati.

Lawd knows Warnock is crushing fundraising and I think the more people see of Walker the more demoralized his voters will be.

This reminds me of what it was like back in the 90s when Operation Rescue targeted cities. That model is still playing itself out.

Unfortunately they can't. I get why it chafes but that's the standard designation for women in the House. These hearings are historic and the term will matter in transcripts. Notice how the Senate doesn't have this issue. Men and women are both called "Senator." But that won't work for House members in red or purple districts. This. Also this. (I still can't get used to us agreeing. 😀)

That's a pet peeve of mine. I know I'm showing my age but "pregnant people" just doesn't sound right to my ears. I understand and agree with the need for inclusive language but it just sounds off to me. It's like when people say that something is "AN historic event." (That has driven me crazy for most of my life.) That said...however I feel about all that "messaging" stuff, the thing I really hate is how the trans community is such a small part of the population and yet they've been targeted with unimaginable hate. Not just the trans community but LGBTQ+ children especially.
