Once NBC knew that Passions wasn’t going to be a big ratings winner and success, Lee was gone after her mishandling of AW and Sunset Beach’s cancellations.

That’s what it looked like. Who was Joey talking to on the phone. Also, did anyone else today’s episode was awkwardly edited? The cuts before commercial breaks and in between scenes were choppy and looked slapped together.

I agree. She is setting Tyrell up- this will be the summer teenager storyline. Also, how long do you think we will have to wait before the other two Articulettes show up on the show claiming that Anita did them wrong (like Diana Ross and Mary Wilson in real life)? Vivica Fox and Anna Maria Horsford would be good casting for the other two Articulettes!

Was today the first day there was no Anita, Vernon, Nicole, or Dani in an episode? Still have a problem with the character of Samantha- why does she look older than Cousin Chelsea and Aunt Kat? lol 🤣🤣🤣

Anyone catch today that the wounded firefighter was named Kirkland. Is this Kirkland Harrison from Another World all grown up? It just seems a peculiar name for a random under 5 character…. http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/1kirkland.html

1994 was the year Ed Trach retired as the Executive in Charge of Production for P&G. He joined P&G Productions in 1958. He was a stable and steady hand for P&G and once he was gone something was off on all three P&G shows. Trach’s replacement, Kenneth Fitts, was the one behind that executive producer shuffle in 1995.

After the Justine plot, VW’s Rachel adopted Justine’s speech pattern. I could not understand why she did this as Rachel Davis from Bowman Street never spoke with this accent. Also, Rachel started wearing her hair in a bun exactly like Justine did. It was an attractive look for VW, but the look always reminded me of Justine. She even wears her hair like this in her 25th anniversary episode.

The problem that P&G and NBC had with AW is that they never let an executive producer or headwriter stay in their position long enough to raise the ratings in the 1980-90s - the exception being Michael Laibson and Donna Swajeski. When the ratings did not immediately rise, P&G and NBC would replace them. In the last five years the show had 5 executive producers- Terri Guarnieri, John Valente, Jill Farren Phelps, Charlotte Savitz, and Christopher Goutman. I do think that P&G and NBC still had some faith in AW as far as 1992- when they gave AW the primetime special before the Daytime Emmys. There was a good faith effort to get people to watch AW with the special.

BTG: April 2025 Spoilers
Did anyone catch in Friday’s episode that Nicole referenced a baby that she miscarried in the footage that Andre had filmed? This is the first time I heard this since the show began. Just speculation, but could Dana had stolen the baby from the hospital and the baby never died? Watch Eva turn out to be that baby…

I think Jacob’s dad is a dirty cop too, and he made up the story to throw Jacob off track. Marcel and Jacob’s dad probably both receiving money on the take.

Maybe play Susan Matthews or Pammy Davis from Somerset? When Alexander arrived in 86, Aunt Liz was the only Matthews left in Bay City. Susan did have a fling with Jamie, but her daughter Julia was dead by 86. If she played Pammy Davis, they could have had her flirt with Mac instead of creating the Rose Livingston character they did at this time to flirt with Mac as Rachel still had feelings for Mitch.

Wonder if Groom was supposed to return in the Summer of 99 as Russ as the show was cancelled? Maybe the show gave him the part of the minister because of that? Goutman kept saying that the show would not celebrate the 35th anniversary in May, but they had the summer to celebrate. The gorilla stuff could have been skipped to give Rachel a few more minutes at the end of the show to reminisce and show some flashbacks as she swept through the Cory living room one last time.

There are several X (Twitter) posts with the opening. It is similar to the Y&R opening. Wonder if Beyond the Gate will go “old school” P&G and have a sponsor tag at the beginning and end of the show? “This part of Beyond the Gates is brought to you today by Bounty. Bounty is the quicker, picker, upper for cleaning up spills and messes.”
