DAYS: Peacock Renews Show for Season 61
Exactly. Affiliates control the slot now from my understanding, so the best NBC could do is offer it up as an alternative. Risk is its broadcast ratings would be even more awful because the national coverage wouldn't be great.

DAYS: Peacock Renews Show for Season 61
Peacock only has around 1.2% of the market share and is really only beating P+ and Pluto TV. Mind you D+ only has ~2% and Hulu ~3%. So it's tight between non-Netflix streamers. This is the closest chart from June I could find from a quick Google: Regardless, something's gotta give eventually and these streamers will eventually fold into each other at least those with a pay tier that's losing money. I guess stuff like Tubi and Pluto might not since they're FAST, but at the same time Pluto is from Viacom and could just fold into being a free tier of P+...

DAYS: Peacock Renews Show for Season 61
This means DAYS will at least have survived four years on streaming and considering almost everyone thought this was just a way to dump the show before cancellation that's pretty good. I'd assume the biggest danger to it being cancelled at this point is Peacock folding/merging with another streamer and it doesn't fit with the new vision. With that said, considering how much these streamers pay for eight episode series, DAYS producing so many episodes for a fraction of that sum and drawing people into the app on a daily basis must seem pretty good.

I'm just happy that the new regime at least gets a year to try and sell their vision for the show.

ALL: Scariest moments/scenes in soaps
One of my earliest soap memories is Maggie drowning on Falcon Crest. It's just a scene of sheer panic that's always stuck with me for some reason.

Agreed. I think focusing on the core cast for the first few months is probably wise, but since some characters might not end up working out (as is typical with new soaps) having "back up" options out there in the world... beyond Beyond the Gates is a good idea in itself. Of course, I'm sure there'll be a secret love child somewhere either way eventually.

I'd assume that initially they'll probably focus on the absolute core families with the other contract players filling the "recurring" spots before being fleshed out to establish everyone, so I assume that we might get into late November or early December before we get more info about recurring players.

His most famous role from soaps is on DAYS as Charlie, Ava's rapist son who eventually got murdered. He was wasted on DAYS, so it's nice to see him bounce back on Beyond the Gates. If there's a guy that a lot of people wanted back on DAYS due to them thirsting over him that had to get cast on Beyond the Gates, I'm happy it's him.

I assume The Talk re-runs plus maybe post-election coverage. It ends December 6th so that's at least a month before the earliest start date though (January 6th). Honestly, it would be pretty cool if they did a week of behind the scenes specials leading up to BTG since they could use the CBS News infrastructure. ETA: I checked and last year they took a break from new The Talk episodes from December 15 to January 2nd. They're basically just ending it a week earlier than their usual winter break.

While it might seem like Beyond the Gates came from a clear blue sky for us, I'm pretty sure CBS has weighted pros and cons of every angle they're taking with their approach to this show. And yes, international revenue is a part of that - if that was a major concern they'd probably skip the political angle completely. I don't think international revenue has - in general - ever been priority for the majority of soaps (B&B is the exception, rather than the rule), so they're probably viewing that part of the income stream as bonus rather than a given in terms of profitability. Ultimately, there's been talk about replacing The Talk for a couple of seasons now. They didn't decide to order a new soap on a whim and they're not just muddling through. CBS has in general been very good at cultivating their audience in an era where linear television is dying.

I mean, historically that's how daytime soaps have always operated due to how large their casts are. I guess since there's only four soaps left, we've gotten used to established soap actors moving around like chess pieces. Just look at the casts of soaps launched in the past... plenty of newbies with the odd established actor to draw people in. KKL was an unknown when Bold & the Beautiful started.

ALL: Short Lived Character, Long Lasting Impact
Addie Horton is the first one who comes to mind. Primetime: Catherine Harrington on Peyton Place was only on it for 20 episodes at the start, but her impact was felt during the rest of the run. Jaqueline Perrault was in six episodes in seasons 1 and 2 of Falcon Crest, but arguably kept stirring up trouble from beyond the grave.

To be honest, just reading David's history I'm not sure how many memorable stand-out moments he actually had. His conception and adoption is of course a big story, but that's more Julie's story. I guess the interracial love story, but that was from what I can tell mostly played as a will-or-won't they until they scrapped it. Plus they were going to bring on a new Valerie. The only scenes where I could think they could've used is when David was presumed dead and I guess Julie should've had scenes where she reacted. But I'm not sure if those were really stand out scenes that would've been appropriate to air (though of course I'd like to see anything from those days).- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos

A shame they're pulling her out already though - I would've waited until they reached that point, but I'm assuming they're just getting more listeners from interviews.- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

Interesting... Vanessa says Rhonda's role was first conceived as a Jewish girl aka the Andrea of the show.
