Summaries of episodes available to view at Paley Center Tuesday Nov 27th 1979 Jackie returns to pack up her possessions now that she and Alan have decided to divorce. She warns him that after two divorces he should be careful not to repeat his pattern of behavior and hurt Hope once he's sure of her love. Later that evening Alan goes to see Hope, who is unsure of why he wants to marry her. When he becomes irate during a phone call informing him that the whereabouts of Green are unknown, Hope confesses that she doesn't even recognize him anymore. Meanwhile, Dr. Quinn hypnotizes Holly to recall the events of the night she shot Roger. Her latent memory reveals that her actions were due to fear that Roger would rape her again. Consequently, the authorities witnessing the hypnosis believe she is eligible for a new trial to clear her name. Rita, also raped by Roger, is missing from the hospital where she is due to have an abortion. Returning home to her anxious mother, she reveals that she's been to see her pastor to discuss the situation, and, by the end of the program, decides to have the baby after all. Tuesday Jan 2nd 1961 Papa Bauer encourages Robin Fletcher to say goodbye to Mike, her soon-to-be ex-husband, who will be stopping by before leaving for New York. Mike's parents, Bert and Bill, discuss Mike's living arrangements in New York and his efforts to get over Carl's death, as Mike packs his bags upstairs. Bert doesn't want Mike to see Robin before he leaves. Mike, Bert, and Bill stop off to see Papa Bauer and Robin; Robin is cool toward them. When Mike talks to Robin alone on the patio, she returns her wedding ring to him and wishes him well. Wednesday Oct 2nd 1963 Meta, Papa Bauer, and Bert wait for word on Julie, who is pregnant and has been in an accident. Bert tells Meta that Julie was already pregnant when Julie and Michael got married. Bruce Banning calls from the hospital and tells Meta to bring Bert and Papa Bauer there at once. In the hospital waiting room with George Hayes, Michael expresses remorse over the circumstances of his marriage to Julie. In the operating room, Dr. Banning and others deliver Julie's baby girl.

Some episode summaries of eps available at The Paley Center Friday Dec 1st 67 After receiving a call from Lisa, who sounds very sick, Bob prepares to go to her apartment and check on her. He convinces Chris not to mention anything to Nancy because it is probably nothing and Bob doesn't want Nancy worrying. Arriving at Lisa's apartment, Bob is perplexed by her serious cough and does a routine examination on her which indicates she has pneumonia. Bob says it is imperative that Lisa get to the hospital for a thorough examination but she refuses to leave the apartment. He can't understand why she refuses to go to the hospital, but the reason becomes clear when Lisa tells him she is pregnant. Meanwhile, Chris and Pa talk about the mystery behind Sandy's disappearance and whether she will show up for the holiday season. Bob is shocked by Lisa's news and can't understand why she would let herself become pregnant again. Bob arranges for Lisa to have a private room at the hospital and she reluctantly agrees. Monday Nov 1st 1965 The Cassens and the Hughes learn that Ellen has agreed to marry David. When Ellen tells Claire, Doug, and Judge Lowell about her engagement, they are shocked because they had been certain that she would marry Donald. Doug even confronts David, accusing him of taking advantage of Ellen's love for her son, Dan. The Hughes also had been certain that Donald would marry Ellen, until he shared the news of the broken engagement at Grandpa Hughes's birthday celebration. Ultimately, Ellen and David are the only ones who seem pleased with the turn of events. Friday Oct 7th 1966 Claire Cassen lies wideawake in the middle of the night waiting for her husband, Dr. Doug Cassen, to arrive home from a house call to Mrs. Rogers. When Doug returns home, he's very distraught because his patient has suddenly died of heart failure. The next day, Ted Rogers visits Doug's office to find out exactly what happened to his wife. Doug doesn't know what to tell Ted, and the grieving husband demands that an autopsy be done. Doug then reveals some past medical information about Mrs. Rogers which shocks Ted. In a rage, Ted pushes Doug away and the doctor trips over a chair and hits his head on the floor.

So Bill went off to Chicago to live with Simone.when he came back in 84,was Simone mentioned? Strange that Hillary would stay in Springfield with her new family and not join her parents in Chicago. How was this explained? One of the first things PFS did was introduced Black characters,mother and son Helen and Clay Tynan.

Carl,i was referring to Bill's first death in 68. Browne had to write around Pat Falken Smith's short stint,which in turn came about after Marland leaving suddenly so there was a lot of turmoil. From SOD synopses at the time it seemed like the show concentrated on one or two stories and everything else was filler.

Fascinating discussion. One question that I hope someone will answer.Were Hillary and her brother (Paul?) the biological children of Bill? If so ,how was that explained? I thought it was stated onscreen that Bill had been gone for about 10 years.Am I mistaken? Hillary was supposed to be early 20's when she arrived,so was it actually stated that it was more like 20 years? Or had Bill and Simone been carrying on this affair during his previous time on the show? Which writers killed off Bill? Did Ed Bryce want to leave,or was it thought to be a dramatic plot for the show?

SPW reported that in addition to Chris Bruno,who scored the role of Michael on AMC,other possibilities included Bruce Thomas (who got the part of Jonathan Kinder) James Goodwin (ex Kevin AW,ex Johnny GL) and Bill shanks (ex Casey ATWT).

That says something about the reasons for the decline of the shows.The constant cast changes that began in the 80's ultimately weakened the structure of the shows and gave them no solid base to fall back on.

Mark Pinter tested for the role of Grant on AW and was offered the role but he and the producers couldn't come to terms.Three years later he was called upon to take over from Dack Rambo. Jeff Trachta tested with Jess Walton and Jerry Douglas for Jack on Y&R.Bill Bell thought he was too young but decided to use him as Thorne on B&B. Randy Brooks tested for the role of Griffin on GL. Geoffrey Ewing who got the part of Griffin,previously signed a 2 year contract with AW as Quinn's love interest but a strike intervened and he was dropped after 4 eps. According to the AWHP that role was DA Adam Banks.
