SORAS predictions
Charlie/Mattie were born in 2010. Now would have been the time to age them to about 16, not 6 years ago. The whole SORASING was done for no reason and wasted characters that would have been viable down the line. I remember when Ashley turned up with teen Abby(Hayley Erin)who never did much but set the whole aging of that character in motion to the point where we now have a 40 year old playing the character. It's an issue that will continue I'm sure.

2023 Out of Left Field Pairings
No! That would involve Kevin being back onscreen. Dropping him was one of the few wise choices made in the past few years. And why would Daniel be interested?

The Brighter Day
Two headwriters I have never seen listed for The Brighter Day David Davidson who wrote the show under the name Albert Sanders beginning March 61 He took over from another nightime writer James Cavanaugh, who wrote the original script for the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. Cavanaugh had written for Hitchcock's TV series and Hitchcock used many of the shows crew to keep costs down and give Psycho a low budget look. Cavanaugh's script was rejected and rewritten. Cavanaugh wrote TBD for a couple of months beginning Jan 61.

The soap opera writers' discussion
David Davidson was a writer I was not familiar with. He wrote The Brighter Day in 1961 under the name of Albert sanders. Found this info in his NY Times obit from 1985 David Davidson, a novelist and author of about 100 network television plays, died Friday at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center's Neurological Institute after a stroke. He was 77 years old and lived in Manhattan. Mr. Davidson, a newspaperman-turned-novelist, wrote his plays during what he called the ''golden age'' of television drama in the early and mid-1950's. They were seen nationally on such programs as ABC's ''Alcoa Hour,'' NBC's ''Elgin Hour,'' CBS's ''Playhouse 90,'' and NBC's ''Kraft Television Theater.'' One of Mr. Davidson's plays, ''P.O.W.,'' became the first production of ''The United States Steel Hour,'' broadcast by ABC in October 1953. Like many of Mr. Davidson's works, the play, about a group of American soldiers returning from the Korean War after having been captured and brainwashed, had a topical theme. By the late 1950's, Mr. Davidson began to voice disenchantment with television as a source of solid drama, holding that scriptwriters, like the rest of the industry, had abandoned quality in a scramble for mass production and ratings. The Federal Communications Commission held hearings on the subject in 1961. Mr. Davidson, serving as national chairman of the Writers Guild of America, told the officials that deteriorating standards and professional pressures had prompted him and some of his colleagues to turn out soap operas under assumed names. His own pseudonym, it was later disclosed, was Albert Sanders. In 1965, the American Broadcasting Companies supported a program to develop talented television writers at the Yale School of Drama. Mr. Davidson was chosen to initiate it as lecturer and writer in residence. He later taught at New York University and the University of Iowa. In addition, he continued to write magazine articles and contributed to television series, including the recent ''Civilization and the Jews.'' Mr. Davidson came to national attention with his first novel, ''The Steeper Cliff,'' published in 1947. It was based on his experience with the American Military Government in post-war Bavaria in trying to revive a democratic German press. Mr. Davidson was born in New York City and graduated from City College and the Columbia School of Journalism. He went to work at The New York Evening Post in 1933 and, five years later, he turned to radio, writing hundreds of scripts for some of the most popular serial programs of the time.

SORAS predictions
For Y&R it's hard to say as they don't really write in depth characters any more. Those kids can be whatever the current writer wants. Katie could be a good girl who hates everything the Newmans stand for or totally embrace it. a lot will depend on the actor chosen and what they can bring to the part. No shade on the Moses actor but he was kind of 'just there' he was a young inexperienced actor thrown into a situation where there was probably little guidance and definitely no rehearsal.

YR: actors health
Just watched Eric's video where he spoke about his health challenges. He comes across so much better than he does as Victor. Maybe a little bit more of Eric's warmth/humor could have been incorporated into Victor over the years to make the character more viable. Anyway, it was interesting to note how he had to come to the realization that his body was no longer what it had been. He had kept pushing himself in recovery. Really he is over 80 and you'd think anyone, no matter how fit they, are would understand that there are limits. But it seems some men can't get their head around that, not only with health but also in other areas of their life as well. Eric seemed humbled by that and got tearful at the end of the video. Hope he has a full recovery.

Efram Zimbalist, Jr. (Concerning Miss Marlowe)
Radio Mirror July 55 ALTHOUGH fame and fortune have always been envied and sought after, they can prove to be poor substitutes for happiness and love — as actress Maggie Marlowe knows only too well. Today, Maggie can look back on many successful years as a leading lady. But all the glamour and notoriety with which she has been showered have not been able to wash away the emptiness and unhappiness she has experienced. Now, Maggie yearns more than ever for love and the security of a happy home. . . . Twice in her life, Maggie has lost the one she loved: When she was a young girl, her husband died suddenly. More recently, tragedy struck when, on the eve of her marriage to Roger Anderson he, too, passed away. . . . Bitterly unhappy, Maggie decided to continue on in the theater, finding her life once again filled with surprises and complications — especially since she met and fell in love with Jim Gavin, well- known international lawyer. Unhappily married to a woman who would not grant him a divorce, Jim became free to marry Maggie after the recent death of his wife. ... As she contemplates her marriage to Jim, Maggie's heart rejoices, for now, at long last, she is finding her dream of love and security becoming more of a reality with each passing day.

Y&R April 2023 Discussion Thread
And the exterior doesn't match the interior layout. With CL I've always wondered about people coming and going from the outer area. If you order and pay at the counter I guess that's OK otherwise you could just finish your coffee and walk out. i guess that door leads to parking? And how do you access the upstairs (Chelsea's apt currently)? Is there a staircase out there somewhere?

Radio Soap Opera Discussion
RADIO DAILY REVIEWS JANUARY 1938 “ THE WOMAN IN WHITE” Pillsbury WJZ — NBC-Red, Monday through Friday, 10:45-11 a.m. Hutchinson Adv’g Co. AIMED AT WOMAN INTEREST, NEW SERIAL SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS SWELL POSSIBILITIES. This is the new serial for which Irna Phillips, author, decided to give up writing her popular “Today’s Children.” Whether decision was a wise one could not be adequately determined by the first broadcast yesterday, as the newcomer barely acquired its sea legs in the initial airing. With a hospital background, new script is well written and there is plenty of scope for it. Surrounding the “woman in white,” one of those sympathetic, understanding and inspirational characters who helps folks around her to work out their difficulties, is an ambitious young doctor, played by Macdonald Carey; a nurse, portrayed by Ruth Bailey; a student nurse, played by Toni Gilman, and her brother, acted by Willard Farnum. Cast is thoroughly capable and Miss Phillips knows her script writing. “ ATTORNEY-AT-LAW” with Jim Ameche S. C. Johnson & Son Inc. WJZ — NBC-Blue, Monday through Friday, 10:30-10:45 a.m. Needham, Louis & Brorby Inc. DRAMATIC SERIAL WITH LAW-OFFICE BACKGROUND MAKES INTERESTING START. With Jim Ameche and Frances Carlon heading the cast, this new daytime serial has a couple of good points in its favor right there. In addition, locale of the action, a young lawyer’s office, offers plenty of opportunities to drum up incidents, complications and dramatic highlights. Ameche plays the title part of a young attorney, Terry Regan, who is more interested in furthering justice than in fat fees for his work. Initial situation dealt with a mother who had signed away rights to her child and later regretted the act, so the lawyer is called in to fight for the return of the little girl, who’s be ng mistreated by her foster parents. In the supporting cast are June Meredith, Lucy Gilman, Fred Sullivan and Grace Lockwood. Carl Wester is creator of the production. “ MARGOT OF CASTLEWOOD” Quaker Oats WJZ — NBC-Blue, Monday through Friday, 10-10: 15 a.m. Lord & Thomas SURE-FIRE SERIAL STUFF WITH TOP- NOTCH CAST AND ACE SCRIPT. As the new half of the double-fea- ture Quaker Oats morning show on CBS, this new serial by Les Weinrott is the type of stuff that always proves popular. The girl in the case, Margot Carver, is a modern girl who wants to break away from her uppish old-line American family to make a career on her own. So she decides to go to Hollywood. Plenty of excitement and adventure is thereby promised the listeners. Script is an expert job and all its values are elicited by the crisp acting of an excellent cast including Barbara Luddy in the title role, Charles Carroll as co-star, Francis X. Bushman and Miss Thelma Owen
