  1. 1986 Y&R moves past All My Children for #2. 1984 through the first half of 1986 I'd say is Y&R's 1980s peak.
  2. @beebs Also Y&R blew up during 1983 and by 1984 was cemented in the top 3.
  3. Twice in the 1980s there were 14 soaps on the air: March 29-December 31, 1982 and July 30-December 28, 1984. The 1980s began with 13 soaps and ended with 12 soaps.
  4. Y&R Fall 1984 Victor enters the Abbott orbit, setting in motion Y&R as we know it today. So a 5% drop from March 1984 to December 1986. Thank you for the information.
  5. From this thread, Search for Tomorrow clearance was dropping every year since the move to NBC. Final week on CBS March 22-26, 1982: 97% First week on NBC March 29-April 2, 1982: 91% Week of March 28-April 1, 1983: 85% Week of March 26-30, 1984: 78% At this rate, I'm estimating the NBC run ended with about 65% clearance, so similar to what we're seeing in 1984 for The Edge of Night at the end of its ABC run.
  6. Also to beat Oprah.
  7. Y&R this week was the end of Dorothy McGuire arc.
  8. June 27, 1984 Y&R Traci's suicide attempt. We saw this episode during the classics. Beth Maitland 1985 Supporting Actress Emmy winning episode.
  9. I would think supercouple era Days and Santa Barbara would have appealed to the same audience.
  10. Y&R at #1! I think this was the start of Dorothy McGuire's arc as Cora Miler.
  11. May 14-18, 1984 Y&R first time at #1 since 1979. A sign of things to come.
  12. April 13, 1984 Y&R Victor and Nikki wedding.
  13. Thanks for the video @Soapsuds Quite an entrance for Beverlee McKinsey.
  14. Thanks @Soapsuds
  15. IOW, clobbered by Oprah. I wonder how long the Lifetime reruns lasted and if they broadcast any episodes past the initial five seasons.
  16. Y&R March 28, 1984 we saw during the classics. Katherine facelift reveal.
  17. Was February 20-24, 1984 the week Beverlee McKinsey arrived?
  18. 1984 Y&R is fully cemented in the Top 3. February 1984 will have Victor rescuing Nikki from Rick Daros. I read somewhere the beach scenes were filmed in the Los Angeles area at Portuguese Bend Cove Beach.
  19. The 1980s was the decade of the villain. So many shows introduced their show-defining villains that decade. 1980: James Stenbeck (As the World Turns), Victor Newman (Y&R) 1982: Stefano DiMera (Days) 1983: Adam Chandler (All My Children), Carl Hutchins (Another World) 1985: Victor Kiriakis (Days) If any are missing, please feel free to add to the list.
  20. Thank you @Soapsuds We're getting into 1984, a pivotal year. Some big events to look forward to Y&R: Katherine facelift, Victor and Nikki wedding, Victor enters the Abbott orbit with the Mergeron takeover storyline. As the World Turns: Elizabeth Hubbard arrival. GL: Beverlee McKinsey arrival. Santa Barbara debut. Loving moves to 12:30 pm ET and Ryan's Hope moves to noon ET. The Edge of Night finale.
  21. @MichaelGL GL November 1983 also was Kim Zimmer debut but I don't know the exact date.
  22. B&B second-highest rated soap debut despite being head-to-head with the second halves of All My Children and supercouple Days. Card Sharks CBS's highest-rated game show debut. Allegedly Mark Goodson demanded CBS give Card Sharks the lead in to The Price is Right otherwise he’d take both shows to another network. Wordplay; Win, Lose, or Draw; Classic Concentration, Bargain Hunters all premiered post-Oprah, so clearances were going to be an issue. It will be interesting to see how clearances dropped post-Oprah on network game shows not named The Price is Right. Two key dates: Oprah went national September 8, 1986. CBS returned 4 pm ET to affiliates on September 29, 1986 and they were the last network to do so.
  23. The In Memoriam segment at the next Daytime Emmys is going to hit really hard.
  24. @Faulkner Now that Bob Barker has passed, I fully expect so many horror stories about him to be exposed soon.
  25. Bob Barker 'The Price is Right' legendary host dies at 99 - CBS Los Angeles (cbsnews.com) Bob Barker, Longtime 'The Price Is Right' Host, Dead at 99 (people.com) It feels like the end of an era for game show fans.
