  1. Here in Virginia it's been a big deal that Trumpkin has signed some bill or something banning Critical Race Theory. So it's very interesting. There was nothing to ban. AHAHAHAHAHAHA! All of the idiot Republicans in this state are cheering. Um. Over what exactly? There never was anything telling anyone to TEACH Critical Race Theory. Not a single teacher I know - know ANYTHING about it. A few teach History. They said...well, I teach History. Same history I was teaching. Nothing changed for me.
  2. Well, I did say be forewarned and that it would be nasty. And I did not say anything about Steffi voting for or against Monica's ranking. And she would be singled out because of what I said. She was against the 6 vs. 12 game calculation of ranking because she had a BAD BACK. It was no secret and was kind of ironic given the situation. That THAT would be her main reason for being out of commission and her reason for the side of the fence she chose to be on. What was very funny - I know someone that spoke to Martina about the situation way back when. Ancillary person who happened to pass it on to me. When Martina addressed the players' concerns, here's how it went down. You're not going to keep Monica out of a tournament, so what exactly are you all thinking? Where are your heads? Because if she's NOT ranked at all - by the nature of how this works - you're going to MEET her in a very early round or even the FIRST round. Even if she qualifies to get in, you're going to end up meeting her EARLY. And that goes for the very highest ranked players as well. So what is your goal here? To NOT get paid for advancing? You're not thinking here. THAT was the explanation to the players. THAT'S why they were suddenly OK with it. Honestly I was surprised when I heard this. I would have thought they were smart. Apparently not. And, I'm part Jewish, part Irish (strange combination). So when it comes to my opinions on certain things, not apologizing for that.
  3. I have zero clue as to how Steffi remained so beloved. It was beyond ugly, and it only got worse to me. This, from me, who disliked Monica at first. I so wanted Chrissie to make it in her last US Open and that turned into the match that I began to love Seles. There was a brief moment either when they were walking on or off the court, and the crowd was cheering. Bud Collins made the comment and it was very easy to miss...Monica went to raise her hand to wave and then stopped, and fixed a piece of hair on her head or pretended to fix her hair. I saw it and said 'wow' immediately, and Bud caught it and said - did you see that? Did you catch that...the crowd was cheering and Monica went to wave, and then hid it and fixed her hair. She knows this is Chris' moment. That right there is when I became a Monica fan. Back to the Steffi issue...what really REALLY grated on me is that AFTER the player vote, and Martina Navratilova as President of the WTA having to basically over-ride the player vote, and put Monica as co-#1, and had to make EXCUSES for the players - I remember her saying - they just didn't understand, and after we explained it to them, they were OK with it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER EXPLAINING it to them? It still BURNS me to this day. AFTER ALL OF THAT (sorry for the Caps) - THEN STEFFI was angry and upset that they also decided to calculate Monica's ranking after 6 tournaments. The minimum was 12 and Steffi was angry about that and opposed it because she said IT WAS UNFAIR. You see, she had injured her back. Um, WHAT? Did ya get STABBED in it??? Again, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And THAT is how I feel about Steffi Graf. I'm going to say something really nasty. As crazy as people complained about the Seles fans, the Steffi fans were 100 times worse. There. So nothing should have shocked me about it. How on EARTH do you even REASON the inequity. ?? The message boards are still out there. You really want to be shocked, check them out. Oh those Germans. Well ya know, Monica was a drama queen, and it only went 2 CM into her back, it wasn't that big of a deal. The overzealous Steffi fans were a nasty bunch. And well, the Germans have such a lovely human-rights past when it comes down to it. I'll get off my soap box now.
  4. People don't remember at all. Or just deny it. It's an ugly stain on Tennis that people do not want to acknowledge. Not a single player voted for a protected ranking for Monica. Only Sabatini abstained, and that was the best they could do. Very ugly. And the German court system basically gave Parche community service. Monica to my knowledge (if I remember) never played a German tournament again. For whatever reason in history, Graf went down as beloved (still gross to me). No, it wasn't her fault. But she didn't do a thing for herself that could easily have made her look - empathetic and human. In the grand scheme of things we'll never know what would have become of Monica and how many more Slams she would have won. I feel safe in saying I believe she would have won at least 2 or 3 more French Opens and likely 2 or 3 US Opens. But it doesn't matter because we'll never know. What we do know is that in Steffi's first 14 Grand Slam tournaments that she played she reached the Semi Finals twice I believe and won one. Did not qualify for a couple/lost in qualifying. In the first 14 Grand Slams that Seles entered she made the semi-s in her very first, won 8 titles, with 1 finalist. It's not really that far of a stretch to see how it would have continued. And I usually say she was stabbed twice. Once by Parche and the 2nd by Tennis itself. You can tell who I'm a fan of.
  5. Well what's particularly scary - I only saw the last set / end of the match. I'm sure Medvedev knows, but maybe not to the extent that he even realizes. I hope someone tells him. Honey - as good as you were, and I'm sure you'll pick your own game apart and tell yourself you weren't nearly as good as you could have been, you made XX amount of mistakes, and you coulda done this or that better. Just know in your little heart of hearts...this wasn't even Rafa's best. And he's old now. LOL. A couple of months from 36 and 36 years old is by no means young in the Tennis world. Ya couldn't even beat him while he was at the end of his career. Remember that when you turn 36.
  6. I missed it but from reading it sounds like Danielle played well but couldn’t seal the deal. Barty isn’t one to just fold so expected. I heard the story about her being the first Aussie to win since 1978. It’s kind of really since Goolagong. They have to acknowledge O’Neil but no one was in that year’s tournament. I mean like - no one. So I think that’s why this is an even bigger deal. They know. Good for her, after all the ridiculous drama.
  7. Danielle would have to serve her best. A lot of first serves and limit the double faults, and I don’t think she can. Then she’d have a chance. Because Barty isn’t going to play stupid like other players ignoring her backhand.
  8. I’m sure he did. What Novaxx is doing is/was stupid but Medvedev is also a prick, and it shows up once in a while. It was likely his way obvious attempt to get some fans for himself for when Roger and Nadal retire. I hope the most he gets out of it is that he was the one to lose to Nadal during Nadal’s big winning Slam. And isn’t bored with the loss.
  9. Australian Open: Peng Shuai T-shirt ban reversed after outcry (yahoo.com) Seriously. Not to compromise the safety and comfort of the fans...??? A damned t-shirt?? Tennis Australia is totally *ucked up. I remember when there was a lot of talk about removing its Slam status and giving it to another tournament - after this year's messes - I know there was a lot of talk on Tennis Channel or ESPN about the strides the AO has made in facilities and prize money, etc. in recent years...which made me say 'damn how bad was it down under?' I always thought of it as the least of the 4 slams, and I see now no wonder they tossed around the idea of giving a slam to another tournament. I remember hearing once the Italian Open wanted it or something - and someone told me Indian Wells or Miami was really high on the list. This story just makes me angry, I don't know what else to say. In the words of the football show, "C'MON MAN!"
  10. Wow - so I was just seeing the post about Medvedev saying the match was boring or that he was bored, then later apologizing for it. I just don't like the way he looks, I'll be honest. Said that in another post. Kinda snakey, sneakin', and generally a di*k wad lookin' type. So I am awful...I'm waiting for him to get his as* kicked and my twitter account is ready. For an (@) at, to Martina and Chris. And tweet to him. "Hope you weren't bored at least."
  11. Those were good ones if I remember. I remember some much worse than those - that top one is pretty normal looking to me at least. At least the top one looks like possibly someone that just didn't know how to properly straighten their hair and didn't do such a hot job. Or girls I know that used to overspray with product, curl, and then not brush it out at all. Not necessarily a bad wig. There were some terrible ones they put her in...that one with bangs is more the one(s) I remember. Did someone mention J.M. Woods' wigs? There were days where the things were so totally jet black and had a life of their own. Hideous.
  12. I felt like we saw Paul Leyden’s hairline expand and shrink on World Turns and I could never tell if it was a rug or if they just disguised it by pushing his hair cut short and forced styled forward. Similar with Darrin Brooks on Bold. If I’m not sure then maybe they’re doing well. It was wiga-licious.
  13. I think I just hadn't noticed how bad the coverage is for ESPN. I'd read posts on here during other tournaments but wasn't totally following matches as they were airing or being played. But this is ridiculous. Last night they were supposed to be on ESPN2...there was a college basketball game over-running, and it was a really big nail biter - the team was up by 12 points with a minute left. So they stuck with that. Finally cut over to Australia, and spent about 15 minutes talking and re-capping in the studio the upcoming matches. All kinds of discussion, predictions, etc. Then they cut over to a women's match IN PROGRESS and the first set was almost over. I was like....MY GOD you people are IDIOTS. You over-ran on basketball, and got to the studio and talked about Tennis for 15 minutes instead of showing a MATCH??????? Ahhh...OK. Well, and I have just figured out - they're only going to show matches that have already been completed for the most part on Tennis Channel. I saw matches going on/in progress and Tennis Channel isn't airing it. I see the Shapo vs. Opelka match on and thought. AH HA! It must be over already and that's why they're showing it. Checked results and yep, it was done yesterday or last night or whatever. Well it's all good to know. Easier just to see what matches are in progress and watch the scores change online...no need to really watch. I was wrong about my packages with ESPN. I thought people meant matches were on ESPN3...and I see now that's not right. They want that booty money for Plus even though they have multiple other channels they could air it on. Not worth my time or money. I'll wait and see who wins and read about which matches were good and save my time and watch them after the Open is over. Really, what's the need to see it live anyway. That's where they've pushed us as viewers and fans, so that's fine...still not paying extra for your service. I'll watch it later. And, I've figured this all out - with TC running Opelka and Shapo now - a re-run already - I see the Anismova and Osaka match looked good - so they won't show that. We can look forward to - like yesterday - them re-running matches over and over...so they'll be showing Opelka and Shapo several times today. Just trash, but funny that this is how it's going.
  14. Ostapenko has been chowin down since I last saw her. Definitely needs a skirted one piece at the pool.
  15. @Soapsuds Seven Wonders - love love that version. Everybody but your dog....makes the song. Cracks me up.
  16. Sounds bubbleheaded enough that he and his wife would be the main investors. There is no treatment for SARS. So this company would be doing what no one else ever has. A treatment for everyone for SARS. I would say the common cold but that's rhinovirus. But same outcome and thought process. They're basically investing in what would be Tylenol for Covid/SARS.
  17. Well, on the topic of lousy coverage...I had on Tennis Channel this morning, or ESPN2 or wherever it was on. They were showing the Nadal Hannfman (SP?) match, which had already happened. I just turned on ESPN2 because it said it's the Australian Open...and yay, we get to see Nadal and Hanfman again....rerun again. Why bother???? WTH is going on? Why not show another match of some kind.??? And then tonight loop Sportscenter all night long again and again. I do not get this at all.
  18. I actually watched a tiny bit - never seen more than 5 minutes or so of Days...ever. But I watched a tiny bit one day when I knew Marlena was possessed...and saw her with her hands around the guy's throat (John???) - at a mausoleum. Seemed pretty powerful this Devil. That was all I saw...then a couple days later had it on after the Noon news and saw she was still going to kill him. At the mausoleum with her hand around his throat. I thought...um, is this the Devil? Why isn't he dead yet? LOLLL. She's just going to talk about it? So several weeks later I had it on again after the news and they did the exorcism I guess. During it Marlena said "Is THAT the BEST you've GOT!???" So I thought, oh, well I don't know why everyone is still alive if she's possessed and so dangerous...but she'll just fake being 'exorcised' and this isn't really it or whatever. Then it was over and I read I guess she's all better? I thought about that...and her saying "Is THAT the best you've GOT!??" Well, I thought...if anyone was a daily viewer or a fan and this went on for....how long? And they did this before in the 90's or whatever....and then that was it for the scene and the Devil??? Everyone should be saying that right now....Is THAT the best you've GOT?? LOLLL. Not a fan or a watcher but that was my take on it from passing by.
  19. I want to see whatever shot they're talking about in articles. One wouldn't let me play it (Eurosport?)?? A clip of the shot. Something about Moutet thought a ball was long/out and stopped playing, and Korda stuck his racket out and it landed in as a drop shot. Some discussions say it was a dirty move by Korda - but the way it's explained I think I don't understand. Did someone call the ball out, and Korda kept playing and won the point...but the ball wasn't out but in instead? Anyway, I don't understand. But it sounded like Moutet didn't like Korda playing the ball or acting like he wasn't going to play it, but then did and won the point. To (if that's the case) I would say the point isn't over until it's over and that's on you. That and I read that Moutet took a selfie with fans before the tie break in the 5th set??? Yikes. Hope the selfie was a good one, and the fan can save it under the title "right before he lost".
  20. This is why I visited this thread today...wanted to see if anyone was Talking about The Squalk and B&B sending more guests to Squalk and Squalk sending more "actors" to B&B. Like they have done with Sheryl repeatedly, to no avail. My favorite day of The Talk was when they did the CBS Soaps day a few years ago now...and the rousing ovation Guiding Light and World Turns got when they introduced them. I was shocked that day, given that the Talk is in Los Angeles and did not expect that reaction. I honestly cried and have watched those clips on YouTube several times. I think there was more surprise that day among the hosts than they were expecting. They had not witnessed THAT kind of love and were not expecting it. I hold that in my heart. LOL.
  21. Agree for the most part. Sloane falls in the Keys category for me with constantly badly mixed results, except that she did win a slam. I saw those results this morning. But, while I don't think Raducanu is all that (at ALL), at least Sloane played someone. Her opponent is a slam winner at least, as is she.
  22. I see the results from yesterday. Or the day before. So, let's place bets that Keys had the match of her tournament with the bouncing of Kenin. I know she's been playing well coming into the tournament but how many times have we seen this from Keys. I had to look her up to see her age and was surprised she's younger than I thought. Still, for years now it's been about that time that if she's going to do something, now is the time. I feel like we've been saying that for 5 years. But let's just see if she did her usual good match of a tournament and then folds like a cheap card table. I know it's still way early in her career but I'm starting to lean that way with Coco Gauff too. Maybe we're just used to seeing young stars have a breakthrough early and make that move. But it's starting to bother me a little with Coco. She's creeping up on the age where girls stop growing, and grow into their bodies, etc. etc. etc. Not the easiest of first round opponents when you look at that girl's record here and there that she lost to, but...not a great first round loss. I'm watching Gauff this year specifically because the timing is there...I feel like a somewhat weaker field than a lot of young players dealt with...and something should be happening. Quarters consistently reached, being constantly on the radar in later rounds, and this is a problem for me and her right now. *itching over. Glad to see there's actually a tournament going on after the Guiding Plight and As the World Burns of Djokovic.
  23. I don't understand ESPN at all. At all. They have the rights to this, so....how many Tennis fans do they think there are that are going to pay extra for this? I don't really care because I have everything, but you take a look at ESPN and all through the night, when the Open is on - they're running SportsCenter on the usual loop they do every night. All night long. On and on. LOLLLLLL. Like, you can't PUT the Open, which I GUESS you paid for....on your main network??? Do they think everyone is going to run out and permanently subscribe to extra ESPN2 or the whole package or whatever just to see the Australian Open???? I get that it couldn't start on time tonight on ESPN because of football overrun likely....but...what is the deal with running a re-run sports show all night long??????
  24. Well as a really long-ass analogy....It's kind of like wanting a hearing or having a hearing to see if the election was fair or not when there's no real evidence that it wasn't fair (and you still lost by 7 million votes and not all of those people were dead or ineligible to vote and elections in this country have never been proven to be unfair with the possible exception of one prior election that had outside influence via social media but you won that election so you didn't care)....and none of that would have mattered anyway and you can have Arizona and Pennsylvania too if you want them and the Democrats still win the election with 273 electoral college votes anyway).....this hearing is kind of like that.
  25. Well, I'm a Roger fan, but in all fairness - all 3 of the big 3 have rabid unreasonable fans. They all have fans who are crazy. Djokovic has given everyone reasons to hate him but - all of the Roger and Rafa fans would be canaries singing a different tune and song if Rafa or Roger had done the same thing. While they didn't, there are crazy blocks of fans for all of the big 3 that would have defended them.
