  1. Trump wasn't going to get much out of this debate unless Clinton completely fell flat and that didn't happen. What he needs to win is to bring in college educated white voters and nothing that he did tonight was enough to win them over.

  2. Someone has to have been saving this dirt for the end of the campaign, because this is a damaging story of epic proportions. Trump is far to arrogant to drop out, but even if he did his name would remain on the ballot everywhere. Some people have already voted and ballots have been printed in most states, not to mention that a major party nominee dropping out a month before the election is a total disaster that would still result in a loss for said party.

  3. Georgia is a prospect if Hillary wins big, but it's not a place where they are putting many resources. The Atlanta suburbs to the north are blood red and a tough nut to crack. More moderate Republicans in Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton and Gwinnett might crossover to vote Clinton, though.

  4. I'm a political glutton for punishment. I can't help but wonder what former posters Max and Alphanguy are thinking about this election.

I've been thinking about that as well.  I'd add Brian to the mix.

This thread needs a conservative voice.

    No, it doesn't.

  5. This doesn't sound good at all. A revival would be better than a reboot, but even a revival would be terrible in the wrong hands. Kristina would be in her early 30s now, so she could possibly be in a power struggle for Denver-Carrington with one of Fallon's children, Steven's son or Adam, who would obviously have Alexis in their corner. Or another possibility is that Kristina could be an environmental activist or politician against fracking, which would put her at odds with Denver-Carrington. One more story possibility is that she would have transitioned Denver-Carrington toward clean energy while some of her family did not want to go in that direction.

  6. Anything Cuba-related will lose him the Florida Cubans, and Florida.

A colleague of mine in New York said that she was talking politics with some young latinos and a lot of the Cubans say their parents say they'll never vote for Clinton because Bill sent Elian Gonzales back to Cuba.

The older people are quite conservative, but Castro is enough of a deal breaker for them to just sit out.

  7. Basket of Deplorables is a good phrase and I have to think that this was strategically planned out. That aside, what is far more concerning is that Trump stating that he would take military action over hand gestures.

  8. A spade is a spade, let's not sugar coat it and accuse Hillary of being wrong or elitist for saying what we all know. Trump has attracted David Duke and most of the white nationalist bloc to his campaign, all of which are deplorable people. These people shout racist slurs and call for violence at rallies, which is deplorable. No one should walk on eggshells to preserve these people's feelings. Anyone offended by this comment was never going to vote for Clinton and was already backing Trump. The votes Clinton needs are not from racist whites.

If you are worried about the feelings of racists, then you should be voting for Trump. These people are not going to change or like you if you coddle them.

I don't think anyone is worried or thinks HRC wanted those votes nor does anyone want her to want them. And what she said was right but the question becomes how do people outside this fringe element react to what she said. I am a supporter of hers and while in some ways I praise it, saying it at a fundraiser with a bunch of Hollywood liberal elites is not the place. While the gist of what she said is not the same and is certainly not the same volume, it reeks of Romney's 47% comment. I know some don't want to see that, but that is the overall impression left.

Romney spoke to a closed fundraiser where he thought the public wouldn't hear the comment, but someone secretly recorded him. The same is not true for Hillary, as she said it and knew she would be heard. No one outside of the fringe element is reacting to this, because it is clear exactly who was talking about. She specifically mentioned racists, xenophobes, etc. What she wants is to get suburban whites in her column and to drive minority turnout.

  10. Dick Morris weighted by party ID, which is a big mistake. Gallup messed in 2012 because they predicted that the electorate would be a lot more white that it actually was. Each election cycle, the electorate gets more and more minority, it doesn't regress.

  11. Interestingly enough, McCain seemed to let go of his animosity toward Bush despite that trick Bush pulled in South Carolina about McCain having an illegitimate child, which helped Bush win that primary. I suspect that difference is that being defeated by Bush is the primary was nowhere near as bad as being defeated by a black man in the general.

  12. The thing to remember about the media is that they need absurdity to keep ratings. No one turns on the news anymore just for information purposes, they only turn it on to hear about someone saying something stupid or crazy. Print media is the same.

  13. Trump is saying all these crazy things to stay in the news cycle and not be upstaged by the Olympics, IMO. Not that he isn't really unhinged, but there is a method to his madness. These pivots and resets aren't going to do a thing, because the damage is already done. On top of that, Clinton has booked millions in air time and Trump has booked zero.

  14. Nothing will come of it, though.  They'll "investigate," Trump's people will lie (and blame it on Hillary/Obama), they'll determine no further action need be taken, and we will have to draw a new line for Trump to cross (which he will - and in record time).

At this point, Trump could literally gun down someone in cold blood, and we STILL would have to question why he hasn't been forced out of the election.

At this point, there is no way to force Trump out of the race other than him stepping out voluntarily. Even if the Republican Party wanted to take the nomination from him, it would only be ceremonial. He'd still have the Republican line on the ballot. You can't force anyone out of an election when they have been chosen by voters.
