  1. I can understand why Channel 4 did that, but the fact the show was available in the US and then cut off made up some of the viewers YT was getting. The other streaming option disappeared due to someone stealing videos from one site and putting it on another. The amount of ads if you can watch it live from the UK isn't bad, when I had the chance to do that a couple of times. Jade's death was spoiled on twitter, in a video promoing Stand Up to Cancer. I think more is to come with Dirk's nephew, it is just how they cycle with this show.
  2. I agree with you about him as a producer and feel it is part of why I became a fan of the reruns of "The Doctors" so quickly. It reminds me of "Guiding Light" in some weird ways, but I digress. (Wish you would watch it Khan, from his producing time frame, so we could get into a discussion on the topic, if that makes any sense. Anyway Potter having worked with Irna Phillips back on the radio show Woman in White is that the title says a lot about things. For example what year did the Bauer Power thing start, and was it a dig at TD and the Powers family?) It was the first time a soap won any sort of award of this nature so I get it. I do wish we knew exactly what he submitted, as there is nothing on the list of episodes in the Paley Center from the season they got this Emmy. With "The Doctors" the only showed the honor once, and there is maybe one surviving cast/BTS people photo that still exists. It wasn't like what they did at GL, which I thought was a bit crazy.
  3. That video made me very happy thank you for posting it. I don't want them to off him though as that would be so frustrating.
  4. If people meaning Martha only showed her stuff from her first stint that would make sense as early on in the reruns the main story cycled around them and the short-term characters that appeared just for one or two story arcs like Terry Kiser's John Rice or James Noble's Dr. Winters. The earliest exception to this was Liz Wilson, who continued after the break up with Nick and beforehand was in a story with an early Mike. The Ira Avery stuff can be pretty bad, but you can see how the story shifts and how the program tried to do a failed spinoff. There are certain things that you may want to watch after January 1972 and before July 1972. Yes I'm spoiler spacing things from this era, as while I'm vague I'm giving up plot points.
  5. Agree or disagree with what Liz Hubbard said about The Doctors in this ATWT related interview? http://soaphub.com/general-soap-news/as-the-world-turns-most-beloved-stars/#comments
  6. Never heard of it, is it about current stuff or historical Neighbours material?
  7. They brought the wheel from The Price is Right, that is a tad better than a random suit that Drew Carey wore. The Paley Center got donations from both ATWT and GL over the years even if CBS doesn't have anything left, hopefully they sent things that were collected from NYC to LA for this event. (That aren't people appearing on "The Talk".)
  8. I want Cameron to pay because it is ridiculous that he is getting away with murder. The mess with Diego being a con amuses me, Myra then totally is his soulmate as she is one too. Jude is new to me, as not a lot of the really old HO stuff is online. I liked her though, as she seemed genuine/multi-dimensional even if she isn't "good". Her comment about OB was funny, and I get why Tom was annoyed how his sister is never there for anything including funerals as that is a good point. Nearly everyone who has looked after him has ended up dead except for his current guardians and OB.
  9. I hope that movie is a parody, but OMG. It was so bad, in a good way that I want the MST3K gang to do a riff on it.
  10. I didn't realize there were webisodes. Do we have to watch them to get the characters? I have no opinion yet.
  11. ~bl~ replied to DRW50's topic in Primetime & Streaming
Seriously they are holding Class until DW comes back in the US. That's ludicrous. I wonder if Canada will have to wait that long or if it is just BBCAmerica being idiotic.
  12. What seriously, cool! Don't want to say anything else. Anyway, glad that the Ari stuff is done. What happened in the boxing ring was surprising. The stuff with the pigeon was out of a sitcom.
  13. That song which was played on the show today at the beginning, does anyone know what it is?
  14. That song which was played on the show today at the beginning, does anyone know what it is?
  15. Part of the reason that Hubbard ended up out at "The Doctors" was Marland was moving it away from a workplace show to a "family" based one, and Liz's character of Althea had no family or love interest in town at that point. (She had long term friends and a goddaughter who was still a child, but no hope for relationships with anyone she had been with as they were part of the "families".) He created a new family, and built around the two couples/families that already existed. With ATWT's Lucinda, Marland created a family for the character with her daughters. She had Lily, Sierra, Bianca, and later the grandkids and the various exes. More OT: with Bill Bell according to Jeanne Cooper they only wanted to dump Bergman after the fight and Cooper was like that's crazy either both should get into trouble or neither as it takes two for such a conflict. I can't really comment on Frank Runyeon on ATWT, but did watch him on Santa Barbara. I liked him on that show, but the character was supposed to be the interloper between Mason and Julia, which was a set up for failure in the 80s soap opera couple era.
  16. I watch it, the story with Steph though doesn't make sense. Why is that guy obsessed with her? (Since I haven't been watching for years, I'm utterly confused.)
  17. The move happened in the fall of 1995. The reason I think the time slot move of GL in certain markets influenced ATWT goes back to how many people turn on the television (or back then with VCRs) go to the station early. The GL fans, while waiting for GL to start, would potentially see at least a bit of ATWT. If the show was strong, they may decide to start watching that too and vice versa if an ATWT fan kept the station on, and what they are seeing is appealing they may get into the next show. The potential crossover of new and/or casual viewers was altered in those places. It is sort of like how GH benefited from Oprah being on ABC in many places after GH, people would turn on ABC early for Ms. Winfrey and get hooked on the soap. Doug Marland's death IMO was a huge factor in the decline of ATWT's long term quality. That being said ATWT didn't have major cast shake ups during that part of the 90s that needed to be factored in while discussing what happened.
  18. The splitting up of ATWT and GL in the afternoon was a major thing IMO that hurt the shows in the long run. That only happened after OJ, and I partly blame that mess on how KCBS out of LA moved GL to the morning so they could show OJ material. It was "temporary", but well since one local CBS could move GL for something else, well why shouldn't others. bl (who hasn't listened to the podcast, but wishes that part of the story would be recalled...)
  19. Michael O'Leary reached out to Watros via social media (Facebook). In the 1-act version of the play, Beth Chamberlin played that role. When they got the offer to put on the play elsewhere outside of NYC (making it not feasible for Beth C) and at a longer size, MOL saw Cynthia was online and contacted. He shared the play, she liked what he wrote and they worked it out. This is why Grant was in LA at the time of the Days of Our Lives 13,000 episode party because he was visiting Cynthia as the play's director. It is discussed in one of the interviews. The show that Cynthia was on "Finding Carter" was cancelled, so she was available. Nearly all of the MTV scripted series are going away as the channel is changing direction again. The other show isn't directly related to GL, but the person behind it knows Stephanie Gaschet as she is shown in the video.
  20. I had to google this as I had no idea since I don't watch Corrie. I did see a little of when Chris Fountain when he was on Hollyoaks, but I didn't know his real name, as he was part of the cast during the short time it was on BBCAmerica.
  21. Do they have "morals clauses" on UK soaps? Decades ago some US daytime soap stars had to deal with that. My feeling is if this kind of behavior would get a person in trouble at a regular job, then it is fair game for them to get sanctioned while working on a television show. If Parry's actions are serious enough and the show is worried about him then they should do something.
  22. Faith was the younger sister and insecure when it came to her older sister Jill. The attractiveness thing doesn't make sense as that wasn't part of the story in years. (That said I'd never have written a story about that triangle as the SoapNet episodes ended before it got to that point, so I can't really comment as I haven't seen enough of it elsewhere.)
  23. Do you all watch for the same reasons?
  24. Back in those days they had the books like they do for the primetime Emmys (now online instead of a book), with just the actors name, character, show and a picture. So basically nominations were based on name recognition and certain shows were more likely to get acting nominations than others. Over the years, the show bias changed, and part of how you got chosen for people to see your reels was based on how well known you were in the acting community in general. There are some actors who took many years to finally get one nomination or they never did. It just was how it was, now it seems like nearly every actor who lasts long enough in the genre gets nominated. So I find it a lot less meaningful, even if in the past some actors were unfortunately overlooked like many members of the cast of ATWT or actors who were on shows that's ratings were lower by the time acting nominations started for soap performances.
  25. I still am curious if the return of Cindy's family is a good thing. Reenie went after Pete and is in jail for that. Porsche was a child of rape as Reenie was raped by her mother's partner. This all was revealed after he died and left money to his daughter.
