    I was also impressed that they remembered the John Remington character.  I thought it was weird though that we only got one flashback of him and it was the back of his head.  I'm wondering if the show couldn't get the proper clearance to show his likeness (probably because it was an old ABC contract that didn't have those waivers in place at the time).

    Your assessment of the story is right on the money. The false starts were stretched out for way too long that by the time Cady's Dixie returned and reunited with everyone, you just didn't care anymore. The backstory was so convoluted, and that made it even harder to accept her return without reservation. It just never felt like she was really "back" for good, so when she was killed off again, it wasn't very surprising nor was it really that sad. The show was just in a really ugly place by then.

    Di was never fully developed as an actual character because I guess they didn't think they'd have to? So she became yet another aimless character in that age range, sharing the role of "female Aidan" with Erin Lavery. Mustn't forget the de-SORAS'ed frat boy Del.

     

    There's only a handful of ways to write back from the dead stories.  Either 1) the person has amnesia 2) has been held captive 3) has to stay away from family in order to "protect" them.

     

    The third one is probably the lamest of them all because from a critical reason standpoint, the argument tends to fall apart when you evaluate the claims made by said dead person.

     

     

  3. I'm not sure who put this Agnes Nixon video together and for what occasion, but there are some nice tributes, especially by Susan Lucci.  It looks like Susan taped her part on the set of Devious Maids; I remember that dress from the show.

     

     

  4. The stage looks great.  The house looks amazing.  It's too bad they won't have a studio audience.  Watching the earlier years when they had no studio audience compared to recent years when they have had one, you can tell there's a huge difference in energy during the live shows.

    All Her Children is such a great book.  I remember reaching out to Dan Wakefield about 15 years ago (around the time Megan McTavish returned for her last run) asking him if he still watched All My Children.  He said he hadn't watched it in years but "might" tune in again to see what was going on.

  6. Hearing about the Who's the Boss revival led me down a rabbit hole of Judith Light videos.  Judith's answers in this interview are so thoughtful especially when she talks about the autistic boy at 5:23.  You can tell she was appreciative of her time on OLTL

    I've wondered that as well. She had no obvious connection to any of the key players. I believe she and Francesca James were friends so maybe Francesca suggested her (and was thanked with a role). Although apparently McPherson was initially supposed to write the OLTL reboot.

    I assumed FJ came back because Agnes was involved in 2013, and was always fond of her. A lot of that show IMO followed the old Agnes playbook.

  8. Anyone know how / why Marlene McPherson was chosen as the reboot's initial head writer?  That seemed like a hiring out of left field.  Was she a fan of the show?  Did she have a previous working relationship with Ginger Smith, Jeff Kwatinetz, or Rich Frank?

    I don't remember who interviewed here, but it was back in 2013.  I'm sure it is in this thread.  In the interview she said that she realized that the reboot had a couples problem i.e. Brooke, no Adam; Dixie, no Tad; Zach, no Kendall, etc.

    Agree.  Again, a homegrown choice.  She captured that small town feel of Pine Valley.  In listening to one of her podcast interviews, you could tell she was passionate about the show.

    I didn't mind the Culliton era.  I've been quite entertained watching past episodes on YouTube.  The show was much better when Culliton was writing than when Pratt or Kreizman / Swajeski wrote the show.

    Looking back, this bothered me a bit.  Everyone was instantly in Bianca's business.  McTavish was too into her umbrella stories, which I don't think was always necessary.

     

    I enjoyed the 80s soaps when there was an "A" story and "B" story and once A concluded B took center stage.  Occasionally, stories would cross but they did so organically when it made sense.
