One Life to Live Tribute Thread
For sure, JFP's vision created one of the least appealing eras in OLTL's history. However, I'm not so sure Pam Long's vision was appropriate for the show either. Thanks, saynotoursoap, for the insight and background regarding Long's stint. It surprises me none to read about Roger Howarth's attitude during this period or that relations between management and "creative" were piss-poor. All you had to do, really, is watch one episode to realize there was bad blood all around BTS.

I truly loved CBS's promos BITD. They were all kinds of awesome.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
And if that's the only way to tell CBS' primetime shows apart? Oh, boy!

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Good job, CBS! Your shows are so damn indistinguishable, even intelligent folks can't tell 'em apart anymore!

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
With so much wood floating around on TV, no one needs concern himself over the depletion of our forests.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Because there isn't enough drift.... Oh, wait, I've used this already.

Because there isn't enough driftwood among its cast?

Love Is a Many Splendored Thing
Same. Damn, but I wish LIAMST had been preserved on videotape. I don't know if I would have enjoyed its entire run, but that last storyline that saynotoursoap has described sounds like good, gripping drama.

Knots Landing
KNOTS' best writers, in my opinion, were Peter Dunne, Joel J. Feigenbaum, Richard Gollance and Ann & Ellis Marcus. Not that I didn't love the Lechowicks' and Stanleys' contributions. In fact, I've gone on-record about how much I loved all 14 seasons of KNOTS. (Even S13 managed to end on a good, if not great, note.) But those four writers, I think, "got" the mix of kitchen-sink realism and melodrama better than anyone else.

True, but look at who was using it: Ann Marcus, who probably was the last writer to give Laura (and Constance McCashin) a substantial amount of story.

Sorry, Eric, I loved Donna, too.

Yes, in a way. Jacobs always had final say-so on stories, casting and such. However, as Lynn Marie Latham and Bernard Lechowick ascended the pecking order, they were handed more power, resulting in major changes in pacing and editing as the show moved forward. Then, John Romano came in (to replace Larry Kasha, who had died the previous season) and everything came unglued, forcing Jacobs to stop production while he and Michael Filerman figured out how to get the show back on-track. (According to an interview with knotslanding.net, Jacobs knew the show was in trouble when the waitresses at a diner he frequented stopped talking about the show.) That was when Filerman brought in Ann Marcus, who had worked with him at LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING. (Marcus was the HW, while Filerman worked as an exec for CBSD.) Marcus had been responsible for the Ciji Dunne story during S4, when she and husband Ellis were story editors.

Apropos of nothing, but was JH's appearance on GUIDING LIGHT truly that special? I just figured it was another cameo! LOL!
