  1. I think Douglas Marland had intended for Jennifer to become Mike's wife, but when Don Stewart resisted, that left her (and Geraldine Court) adrift. Same went, I would say, for Tina Sloan, who didn't have much to do as Lillian after the initial storyline with Judi Evans/Beth and James Rebhorn/Bradley ended and Stewart's departure put the kibosh on the Mike/Alexandra/Lillian triangle, until her breast cancer story and the affair with Ed.
  2. I love how FOX promos always made "Party of Five" look more lighthearted and romantic than it really was.
  3. For years, I believed that the only way to understand Spinelli, let alone tolerate him, was to assume he was on the spectrum.
  4. Good point. To me, the difference between a continuing drama or serial and a soap opera is that a soap opera should be geared specifically toward women, with an emphasis on romantic conflicts. Of course, that doesn't mean romance needs to be the center of EVERY plot. However, there should be a healthy dose of it; and every plot should concern itself most with interpersonal relationships - meaning, of course, what goes on everyday inside the living room, bedroom and kitchen.
  5. I'll go along with a Jax (recast)/Lois romance since we KNOW a Ned/Lois reunion ain't happening.
  6. There's only true love for Jason, and it's Spinelli, lol.
  7. I don't. Y&R, for instance, might be a West Coast soap with a slicker production aesthetic, but I think its' roots are in the the classic, P&G-sponsored soaps that were produced in NYC.
  8. IMO, Kimberley Simms would've been wonderful on KNOTS LANDING, perhaps as an old friend of Paige's (Nicollette Sheridan) who makes a play for Greg (William Devane) when she thinks Paige isn't interested.
  9. It could've been the entire episode.
  10. It'd be another (hypothetical) Trevor St. John situation, with DG on the studio floor, lying in a pool of his own blood; and LW being dragged away by the LAPD, kicking and screaming, Norma Rae-style.
  11. You're not kidding, lol!
  12. I remember reading this column in '94 and being comforted by the knowledge that I wasn't the ONLY one who thought AMC had become "a sad shadow of its' former self." Something I had been saying since two years before.
  13. She'll find them just before she guns down Drew (and lets Nina take the fall).
  14. You know, I always wondered about that. It always mystified me how McVicar seemed to be so popular - at least, according to the soap mags - even though B&B was still looked upon as little more than Bill Bell's other show.
  15. REALLY?? Yup, lol. There's a lot I could say about Don Diamont, but I could never say he was a fool.
  16. I get not wanting to lose a cushy soap gig, but no one should go into the acting profession expecting job security. If you do, you're an idiot.
  17. And lemme tell ya: pretending to be in love with someone like Darlene Conley could not have been easy! (I'm sorry, but it's the truth).
  18. ICAM!! So, you don't want to play opposite a fat, old lady on a soap opera? Well, like the song says, it's better than digging a ditch. So, again, just say your lines and STFU!
  19. DG was not the first actor to rile up his fans for the sake of job security, nor will he be the last. But I can't stand ANY actor who won't STFU and say their g*ddamn lines.
  20. It's like whenever an entertainer passes away and all of social media is like, "Why hasn't his/her co-star from that movie they did back in '64 made any statements?" Entertainers are not obligated to do anything except entertain us. Period.
  21. Decades of bad storytelling have made EJ, Sami and everyone connected to them not just toxic, but radioactive. I applaud the writers' decision to address some of the elephants that have been in the room for too long, but, man, is it gonna be messy; and I don't exactly have the confidence that DAYS will handle this appropriately either. It's been a long, long, LONG time since DAYS was that kind of show.
  22. I still remember thinking how ridic it was for Josh to take the kids and head off to Italy because he THOUGHT he saw Reva in some travel video. And the thing is, when Josh and then Reva returned to SF, did they even MENTION the video, maybe explain or reveal that it WAS Reva, or "Princess Catherine"? Nope.
  23. The airplane has been gassed up and is ready to fly over the Prospect Studios at a moment's notice. (Not that they'll need it, of course. Frank hardly ever fires anyone).
  24. I wish we could've been privy to Sami's therapy sessions. "Why did I go after Austin so hard like that, you ask? Because, the devil literally told me to!" I agree. Try as they might to pretend that Sami had good reasons to resent John's presence in all their lives, the fact remains that it was he, and not Roman, who acted as her father throughout her formative years. If anything, Sami should've been fighting for John and Marlena to stay together and NOT for her to remain with Roman.
