If Trump wins re-election, the next four years will make the past four years seem like paradise by comparison. I'm truly worried about the future of this country.

I admit I am relatively new to following politics, but it does seem to me that caucus-ing, rather than simply casting ballots, isn't exactly the smartest way to go about determining nominees and delegates. And just how did we decide on IA and NH going first anyway? Did we flip a coin or something? How about if the states simply went in alphabetical order instead, or in order of admittance to the union? Ugh. You could only imagine how a Bernie vs. Trump election would go. One side would win; the other would say it's rigged; and we'll spend the following four years going on and on and on about it. I say, in the future, we play tag to determine our leaders. It's much more efficient. Why do we even NEED caucuses and primaries? Couldn't we just cut to the national convention?

Wow. So much to digest in this thread. Apologies if I go "over my time," lol. Exactly. God knows this republic of ours ain't the greatest, but it's a far sight better than what others across the globe have. I'm not ready or willing to throw it away or burn it all to the ground until I feel I've done all I could to make it better. As I see it, if Bernie doesn't get the nomination, we're screwed, because Berners will be out to punish the rest of us like they did in 2016; if he does get the nomination and loses -- and he will lose, if he does get it -- then we're screwed, because no way will he be able to defeat Donald Trump; and if he does get the nomination and actually wins, then we're screwed once more, because I think we'll see right away how little that man actually cares about anything other than lining his own pockets with cash. No matter how you slice it, then, we're just plain screwed. So, yeah, from here on out, I think I'll be concentrating more on down-ballot races in my state. Especially now that the clusterf**k known as the Iowa Caucus has happened. If Bernie were to become the nominee, the only thing going for him would be, "He ain't Donald Trump." But, would that be enough? I've nothing to say about Rush Limbaugh...except, maybe Rosie O'Donnell was right about how lying gives you cancer. Aisha Moodie-Mills made an interesting point this morning on NPR's "The Point"*: Democrats stay looking for another, galvanizing, Obama-like force to excite them into showing up at the voting booths. Basically, she said, we gotta stop looking for that next savior, because he ain't comin'. If our primary objective in 2020 is to get rid of Donald Trump, then we're gonna have to save ourselves. (*Yes, I listen to NPR. Shut up.) They didn't really say "got the shaft," did they? Because, if they used those exact words to describe a gay man's performance in a political (or any) contest, then they should be very ashamed of themselves. (And I'm not even gonna TOUCH "a bump.")

Honestly, I haven't a clue, lol. These days, I think of myself as a reluctant patriot. I don't WANT to gaf about where this country is heading, because I've never thought much of it, or of human beings in general. On the other hand, I feel like I have no choice BUT to care, because I'd rather live in a U.S. that makes an attempt, no matter how half-hearted, at being a republic, than spend the rest of my days in an outright oligarchy, where only "the few, the rich, the white" get to control everyone else's destinies. (I mean, they do that anyway, but you get my drift). Never in my life have I been so scared to side with the Democrats -- even when I didn't vote, which has been for most of my life, I still never, ever sided with the Republicans -- but if Bernie ends up being the nominee, I'll have to fall in with his repugnant cult, because four years of Donald Trump is MORE than enough, thank you.

Melrose Place
Charles Pratt, Jr. has always been a very short-sighted writer. In every series he's worked on, he'll set up intriguing storylines that could run for years, then drop 'em first chance he gets. I think the guy must have ADHD. Me neither. Especially given the lengths of episodes, depending on the series. IMO, binge watching works if each episode is 10-15 minutes apiece. Otherwise, it's a slog.

I'd never suggest that you shouldn't vote Republican (although, for our country's sake, I believe it to be in your best interests and mine not to). If we are to take away anything from the past week's events, however, let it be this: we need to vote. All of us. Every. Single. One. Regardless of your present circumstances. Regardless of your opinions about our current administration. Regardless of anything witnessed by the same God who woke me this chilly February morning and urged me to write these words. Just. Vote. Benjamin Franklin once said this republic was ours if we could keep it. I, for one, suggest we should. #KeepTheRepublic

I've wondered that myself. It isn't as if Bernie, his associates or his followers possess any earth-shattering ideologies. At the start, I thought Pete Buttigieg would siphon away some of Bernie's support, on account of his youth, and the fact that he was the first openly gay man to run for president. I thought millennials in particular would see a lot of themselves in him. Yet, that doesn't appear to be happening -- or at least, not happening as much as I had expected. Berners are like Trumpers: they are prepared to go over the cliff with their leader. Michael Moore and I were probably among the first to say Trump would win the 2016 election; ergo, I can't say TOO much bad about the man. I think Moore can be right some of the time, and wrong some of the time, too.

It would not surprise me at all to learn the Senate is launching yet another investigation into Benghazi. Just as I am convinced they will look further into Biden's actions regarding Ukraine once they acquit Trump. No doubt, it would be like what happened when AMC's Laurel was murdered during a taping of "The Cutting Edge."

Gawd, the system is so broken. I'm just sorry that no one is trustworthy enough to fix it.

Not even CTS is worth going through that kind of hell. Trust me.

I'm just glad that Joe and/or Hunter Biden will not have to testify. As I've said before, THAT would have been a recipe for disaster.

Knots Landing
What I love(d) about Abby was that she wasn't born into power, like JR, (presumably) Alexis and FALCON CREST's Angela Channing were. Abby was born and raised in a middle-class family, so she had to fight her way into power and wealth. Like she once told her daughter, Olivia, she was not going to spend the rest of her life clipping coupons.

If I were in the military, I would be asking myself that very same question. In fact, I think the GOP's actions are going to have a devastating impact on our armed forces in terms of enlistments. Some will still succumb to jingoism, but not all.

I don't know whether you have finished watching S13, @YRBB, but I would say most of your observations are spot-on, lol.

It really peeves me how homophobes always believe the LGBTQ community is out to convert young men and women into "God-hating fags," as it were. "Ruin Christianity"? Please. Homophobic people are doing just that, every damn day, whenever they preach The Gospel According to Trump.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
I could see where he was coming from. Under PFS, Stefano DiMera was "just" a mafioso -- a credible threat to the residents of Salem, who was still within the realm of possibilities as far as villains went. It's when subsequent HW's turned him into something out of a James Bond novel that, frankly, they cheapened the character. I was thinking the same thing, @Elsa. Denise Alexander would have been TERRIFIC as Beth Logan -- or, if not there, then maybe as Cricket's mom on Y&R.

The sad thing is, if Senate Republicans (and Berners) get their way, and Joe and/or Hunter Biden end up testifying at the impeachment trial, then Bernie is a near-lock for the nomination. Because, even though all the Biden-related conspiracy theories have been debunked many times over, there's no way that family would be able to emerge unscathed by their testimonies. In 2016, people talked about holding their noses and voting for Hillary Clinton. Lord knows what we'll have to hold to vote for Bernie Sanders.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn Bill Bell tried to get Denise Alexander for a role on Y&R or B&B, but couldn't for whatever reason. Ironically, Ron Carlivati is just the kind of HW who'd find some way to bring DA/Susan Martin back to DAYS if he could. She could wind up being Evan's grandmother, or something. You just never know with Ron, lol.

I, for one, am not entirely sold on the concept of "online education." I'm sure it presents a ton of benefits to those who participate, but to me, it still feels largely like a scam and a cash-grab. Is Buttigieg gaining ground with voters of color? Is that why the NYT has published this article? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/28/us/politics/buttigieg-campaign-black-hispanic-staff.html?action=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Well, at least he's not coming aboard as a love interest for Justina Machado's character. I hate when sitcoms stunt-cast like that.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
The truth is, a team that's talented and dedicated to putting on the best show possible could work even with NO budget if they had to. If today's soaps look crappy even next to "Loving," then it's because they have people in charge who gave up a long time ago or weren't that talented to begin with.
