It always pleases me when long-thought-lost soap material pops up unexpectedly. I just wish more videos existed from the 1970s, which was soaps' finest decade IMHO. Writer Ann Marcus' work on SFT made the ratings soar.

A few years ago Roux did a short film that was available on youtube, but for the life of me I cannot recall the title. You can see her as Missy in the 1968 wedding of Lenore and Walter, which is still up on YT.

Actually, Joseph Gallison appeared on WTHI in 1972, long after Carol Roux had worked on Somerset in 1970. She did not return to Somerset after Gallison was hired by WTHI.

Well, I always found Cenedella's work to be "ehh," not really good but not the worst of the worst either. The best he did was on AW right after Agnes Nixon left and he had her bible to guide him. He was sandwiched between two stellar talents on that show, Nixon and Lemay, so his "adequacy" was more glaring, I suppose. Really, you've heard good things about Upton?

Yes, that is what's been revealed about GH in those years. Unfortunately for the show, Laiman and Racina sucked big-time.

Robert J. Shaw: for me, an overall NO. His work on daytime dramas, or at least that of it which I personally endured (LOL) was substandard. He was dreadful on Somerset. His contribution to GH was even worse. Years after his departure, a colleague on the writing team acknowledged that Shaw did not even know much about what was going on with the show during his tenure, even asking questions like, "Who is Luke Spencer, again?" His individual scripts for Peyton Place were fine, but taken as a whole, I personally do not feel his work lived up to the high standards set by other, legendary soap scribes.

I respectfully disagree with the contention that RC "introduced" the notion of characters being affected by their history. Master writers like Irna Phillips, William J. Bell, Harding Lemay, Pat Falken Smith, Douglas Marland. etc., had been doing so for decades before Carvivati. Indeed, some of the masters' very best stories stemmed from characters struggling to deal with and overcome their history.

There's a fun old-time radio drama of Kitty Foyle, starring Ginger Rogers, who played Kitty in the original film version. These radio adaptations of classic films are a blast!

I've never seen anything on MeTV, but out of curiosity, how complete are the episodes as aired? Most often, vintage programs have scenes cut out from each episode, to make room for more commercials, unless you watch the shows on premium pay services like Netflix. Many years ago, I tried to watch Little House on the Prairie, Gunsmoke, and The Big Valley on a local station, but the editing was so severe and atrocious, I just could not stand it. LHotP, whose episodes originally ran for about 47 minutes, had a whopping ten minutes sliced out of several eps. The Big Valley and Gunsmoke, originally about 50 minutes, had about 13 minutes ripped from each episode. Sure, I could buy the DVDs of many classics--if they were released--but even commercially-released TV sets sometimes presented buyers with the dreaded edited-for-syndication versions.

I thought Linda Grover was awful. To each his own, of course. While I preferred William J. Bell's and Pat Falken Smith's work on DAYS, there are people who swear James Reilly was their favorite writer for that series. (Eeeeek! LOL!)

Actually, yes, we are lucky to have so many vintage eps of the P&G soaps available on the internet. It annoys everyone when Sony so determinedly deletes Y&R and Days from youtube, but at least we have countless eps of TGL, ATWT, TEON, SFT, AW, etc., to enjoy. (Or, in some cases, to bitch about, LOL!)
