The official youtube channel has started to upload only damaged episodes from season 10... without background music and very low quality. Its like a complete disregard for fans and disrespect to the show itself. They should just stop it already... we will just watch on videoland. Its unbearable to watch episodes without background music. What they are doing is damaging the legacy of the show.

I would not go that far that the episodes are now unwatchable (some of Taylor/Thorne had that label even with music... ;-))) but I noticed it too over the weekend. No closing credits and no background music for the past 20+ episodes. Very weird - indeed I'm also hoping for the continuing videoland uploads.

@AMCOLTLLover The first half of 1986 was when all the big storylines of the H. Wesley Kenney era culminated. The second half of 1986 was the start of Cricket eating the show.

Sums up the year perfectly. The redemption arc for Jack(while not must-see TV storyline wise, but very appealing acting wise) was also promimently feautured.

  3. About the 1994 episodes: do we know why the show decided to have Ridge go out on a date with Bikini Bar waitress Rhonda around #1831!??? It is super random and weird. First of all, they had not met until she suddenly popped up at Forrester Creations and immediately sked him out on a date. Rhonda was also not seen much for 1 1/2 years as her only purpose was to be around Sly, Zach and Felicia during the Ganz story in fall 1992. Plus, there are plenty of model character floating at the company to serve as a possible date for Ridge!?

  4. Question: are we certain of the preemption days for B&B in 1994 during OJ?

#1830 is a fourth of July episode with a pool party for Jessica - but according to the circulating data in the Vault (excel file of B&B air dates provided by a lovely board member!) it aired on July 13, 1994 o CBS due to various pre-emption in late June / early July. Some on here used to be savvy enough and constantly checked the old google tv goups or sth. like that from 1990s. Could he/she probably confirm when this episode aired?

Anyone remember who this actor is and who he played? My mind is drawing a complete blank!

That's Mykel Shannon Jenkins who won the SOAPNET show Who wants to be soap star!? (or sth. like that) and was signed up by busy talent manager Michael Bruno. Jenkins was brought onto B&B as the son of Lt. Baker, Det. Charlie Baker. Everyone suspected Brad Bell was serious about adding a black family in 2007 but he was not. Despite being initially on contract, Charlie Baker was never more than a police man and quickly disappaered. He was occassionally used as the detective until 2012 but eventually forgotten.

2401 Brooke is begging Stephanie for help. Stephanie called her a parasite. One of the best exchanges EVER!

Is it possible that the show is so good?

Someone who has watched... Is it going to last? Is 1997 a great year?

Yes and no. Some stuff is great while the Ridge/Taylor/Thorne stuff is pretty bare bones and hard to stomach, IMO.

@divinemotion Second half of 1996 it felt like B&B was preparing to expand to 1 hour in time for its 10th anniversary but as we all know that didn't happen. There's a bit of a cast purge not long after the 10th anniversary.

A castbpurge not addressed at all onscreen. They are just gone suddenly. It felt very weird, yet the arrival of Amber was pretty interesting with Sheila in the desert.

There were hints that Grant shared a past with Taylor but then it was changed that they were college classmates and that was it. Somehow I don't think Bradley original plan was for Grant to make Brooke question her decade-long obsession with Ridge.

Most definitely. Typo’s exit and then pregnancy probably changed the direction for Grant. Suddenly, Winsor Harmon auditions as Thorne and Brad is all hot for a Caroline redux with the brothers vying for the same woman. Yawn

In the 90s, after his BB exit, Jim Storm lived for a few years in Italy. The show was so huge at the time. He tried to do the fashion designer. I remember him appearing on a talk show about pranotherapy.

Wow - did not know that.

He appeared at least once in 1986. I knew the actor from B&B -which started first in Greece- and I was happy to see another familiar face. I  definitely remember him on the phone with Lauren. Telling her that he is leaving for a business trip or something.

If he appeared in 1986 it must have been on first or second day of January because he is not seen in any of the German Y&R episodes which started with Jan 10, 1986 or sotmething.

Unless it's the always present Budget Crisis, I'm not sure why Mrs. Manning didn't pop in.  Gloria was there, so instant dramatic possibilities would have ensued.

Fen quietly "turned gay" off-screen, without a shred of conflict, so we'll probably never see him again.

JoAnna should have been there. It amazes me that Brad Bell brought her back in the Bell soap orbit when Travey Bregman could not show up on B&B for that one day. This reminded Y&R that JoAnna still exists, so brought her back a couple of times 2005+. Considering that she missed out the entire baby switch of Lauren and following years of turmoil it’s always crazy…

I remember those Danny summer concerts in the 1980s and 1990s. They were so cringe.

The word should have been around back then because there is not other way to describe those concerts. The PC themes to go along with it. The highly spontaneous duets. It was everything. 🥶

@sheilaforever @Broderick I wonder if Bill Bell casting James Storm at B&B was a make good for the ending at Y&R

Maybe. It seems from his B&B (phase out) exit and some Soap Opera Update (?) article that Jim Storm was a freespirited character - and lived in Arizona in a kind of artist community with his wife and many kids. So maybe he was okay with leaving LA and the acting scene.

He got the Carl Williams treatment.  Stopped appearing without an explanation.  He was just "at the office".

For more than a year, I don’t recall even that line until he suddenly „died“.

@janea4old JoAnna first episode was December 7, 1984. That scene could be from 1985.

I originally thought Neil Fenmore stopped appearing in 1986 and died off screen in 1987 but from the full episodes/clips Neil Fenmore last appearance was sometime in 1985 with the end of the engagement to Gina. Did he get an exit story before his off screen death or did he just stop appearing?

Jim Storm had zero scenes in 1986… don’t know his exit date, though.

Sure - Nick of course! And there was an episode i think 6000 when Stephanie invited a friend to talk with Nick about smoking and cancer. And in 1988 i think when Stephanie hired the prived eye to find Stiven Logan he smoked and in the dinner the detective i forgot his name asked Stephanie to buy cigarettes so she can see Stiven and she said she did not smoke.

Good catches. I had forgotten about both.

I remember the whole Ivana/Jessica storyline so differently from how it actually played out. The way I remembered it, Jessica was good and innocent and Ivana was the mean girl. But watching it now I find Ivana a LOT more interesting as a character than Jessica. Ivana is mischievous and jealous but still in a kind of relatable way, Jessica is just an annoying kid who thinks she's more mature than she really is.

I have now reached #1827: in a surprising turn of events, Ivana has offered Jessica her friendship and the Forrester ingenue visits th Melrose Place style apartment where Ivana her co-models Coco and Michelle live. While the story is not super interesting, it's just fascinating that B&B once used such a logical set of characters (models! at a fashion hpuse, who would have thought about them!?) and it adds some nice layers. You know, Michelle has to lose two pounds for her next photo shoot and is tehrefore eager to hit the treadmill.

BUT my biggest surprise: (day player) Coco is a smoker!? Smoking on soaps or TV in general is such a rarity these days and I just realized that it was never much used on B&B either.

Apart from Coco, I recall Deacon as a smoker when he joined as resident bad boy in 2000 and Massimo of course smoked cigars... Can you guys think of anyone else?

I have him in my "Hoppers" Thread as Dave, but I don't have a year to go with it. What year is the episode from?

I can now report that Eddie Cibrian played "Dave" a college buddy of Dylan in #1814 which probably aired June 10, 1994 on CBS. Also feautured was David Ramey as "Ted"- he would later play Diggle on ARROW where Dylan Neal was as semi-frequent guest star. What a small world!

BTW: Eddie Cibrian was shirtless in that scene (as the only actor!?) which seemed to mimic those Malcolm and Neil gym scenes from Y&R in the mid 90s.image.jpeg

In Australia, Bold is the #1 show on the broadcasters streaming service, 10play. Data is measured in three ways: overnight, +7 days and +28 days. 10play episodes are same pace as the US.

That's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing! I think the streaming craze came a little too late for many countries where B&B's appeal shrunk over the years and/or daytime programming was seen as too costly to buy the rights for this show. Soaps while not the biggest audience grabbers in general are a great way to beef up one's streaming library and are a continious draw for subscribers. I fear that attracting a new audience is very hard, though.

  16. #1809 – here is it: the one event that probably kept me watching this soap as young teen: the end of Jay Garvin. In retrospect I would have expected much more build up because it happened all so fast. James is suddenly on Sheila’s trail. The motivations remain sketchy; the writers claim that James is digging deep because Sheila is Brooke’s assistant. Dear James: Stephanie and Brooke both have some skeletons in their closets, too. But maybe this turned him on? ALL of James’ lovers on this show were rather complex (read: devious, crazy or off-the-rails) women at one point or another if I think about it… LOL

Anyway: the first of many balcony falls in B&B history (is anyone counting???) was just great TV with Sheila being cornered and well Jay taking a deep fall. To my utmost surprise the rest of the episode had some super boring stuff: Eric and Stephanie have lunch and discuss basically nothing. Jessica speaks with Ridge about his skimpy swimwear and is then introduced to Brooke. Talk about nail-biter material. NOT

There are some things that are definitely working really well in Summer 1994: the acting of Ian Buchanan and Kimberlin Brown. The wonderful conversations between Sheila and Mike – and basically every scene featuring Sheila. I have only seen Ivana’s first episode in which she bantered with Dylan – and it was GOOD. The Spectras are losing steam and my best guess is that Sally and Macy will soon make up after suffering a nasty fall-out due to Anthony. The story was a lot better than I remembered it. Now it is time to move on quickly, though, ‘cause Sally and Macy have to be at good terms – they have such a sincere relationship, IMO.

@ Divinemotion: 1996 is good in a way that it features a broad variety of stories and characters. And most storylines work really well. I re-watched it in 2021. IMO, it is losing considersable steam in the fall with Brooke/Ridge/Grant because the writing is not doing any character favors, but apart from that there is lots to like - and actually most stories are cut too short (for my taste) instead of being dragged out...

Yes, exactly! I think inserting James undercover in this storyline really vitalized it (just watching Taylor completely isolated as Leila wasn't very interesting).

James' undercover mission also ended those Connor/James scenes in an office which aired for months (at least in my memory...) and made them look like the original desperate housewives.

    Totally random observation:

The Morocco storyline suddenly and unexpectedly got 100% better when James met Ahmed! I can't believe how well they play off each other! I could easily watch an entire spinoff where these two gentlemen doctors solve cozy mysteries together in the Moroccan desert while drinking tea, discussing philosophy, and having silly interactions with bellydancers. Ahmed gives me Dr Watson vibes.

Isn't this when James poses as "Brewster Mackenzay"? I loved it back then - and Ahmed is indeed fabulous. He is one of those classic Bell show sidekicks which add a lot of layer to storylines...

  19. Thanks for compiling those lists!

Crazy to see an actor on soaps in 2022 still racking in 200+ episodes. B&B sure works differently than most other shows. And Kimberlin Brown's numbers are some of her highest yearly totals... Crazy as well. While not showing the most balanced cast overview, I think that it worked really well for the show last year.

Lawrence St. Victor at 93 episodes is also a lot. He's gonna be hurt by Rena Sofer's departure for sure. I see him on recurring as soon as his next contract cycle expires which sure is a waste of talent. Still awesome that he got another year with some frontburner storylines after being sidelined as resident Reverend for 5+ years.
