Happy 15th Anniversary Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, she debuted June 4, 2008

    Crazy, how time flies!

i guess in light of those AWFUL first storylines I was not the only one NEVER picturing JMW to stay around at B&B and turn into the next generation number one diva!????

I was also geniunely surprised when she came back in 2013 after her exit. Somehow this soap job really works for Jackie and while she is no Meryl Streep she is having major screen presence and that is something. Kudos to her for that 15 year anniversary!

Late April 1990 - Caroline's death storyline has finally started. I say finally because I've always wanted to see it and I'm glad she'll die, cos yep ... Caroline annoys me a little bit. lmao.

That being said, I am stunned by JJ's work in the scene where she first finds out (so nicely shot from 'outside' so we don't hear it just yet). Even though Caroline annoys me often, JJ's acting has always been great, but her performance in the scene is phenomenal. Just quiet shock and horror. And when she first sees Ridge in the next episode and quietly breaks down as he professes his love.

I really enjoyed seeing JJ’s full run as Caroline, too. Unfortunately, Bill Bell never knew what he wanted to tell with Karen who was a major dud after a great introduction

I saw on IG that he was in Italy with his partner at the same time - and was hoping that he would show up. Thankfully, he did. It seems like he was merely visiting for this one day - and not part of the remote

  4. Still (re)watching 1994 and picture my surprise that in #1887 someone familiar showed up. Photographer Tommy Bayland (as played by Tim Choate) arrived on the scene to take promo shots of Thorne and Macy!?

The actor's name was in the credits a few episodes prior, but I thought they had just messed up. Nope, they indeed brought back this character which was last seen 4 years prior (and was originally feautured in Donna's story in 1988!). And either Tommy graduated from taking shady nude shots and parazzi photos for Spencer Publications to a more prolific career or Decadent Records simply did not want to spend too much money on the carerr of Thorne and Macy. LOL

  5. Some remarks about THE 1994 BRIDGE WEDDING.

It has stellar production values and still holds up in 15th viewing (these were some of the episodes always available on YouTube and has been rerun 6 (?) times on CBS, I guess) as great entertainment. Taylor is now held captive and desperately wants to return to Ridge who thinks that time has come for his happily ever after with Brooke. What I didn’t remember?

The plot in Morocco is rather “rushed” to reach this climax considering that the rest of the story will last months. A lot happened within one or two weeks to get there and so far I still like the Arabian Nights plot. Moroccan Orphan Annie has not arrived on scene and there might be other cringe worthy stuff coming up, if I remember correctly. Back in L.A., the show brought back the Logans and gave them some airtime ahead of the wedding. Stephen not seen since 1988, Katie and Donna not appearing since 1991 (Eric & Brooke wedding!), Storm returning with the original portrayer not seen since 1989 (Ethan Wayne was looking great back then – I’m confused why he did not get more TV work!?) and Beth not seen in this incarnation since 1990. Kristen’s return was kinda blah because she suddenly harbouring a grudge against Brooke for five seconds (why?) before becoming her maid of honor. Felicia was the missing link but her absence was at least addressed. So far so good. The actual wedding which has always been the epitome of amazing production values looks INTERESTING in the pristine picture quality provided in the vault. From it, it sure looks like it a lot of scenes were taped in the studio with a photo/video backdrop. Seems like filming on the beach was not feasible with the big cameras back then. Thorne’s data Ivana was probably not at the beach wedding and simply edited in at the studio. Speaking of continuity, KKL’s son was sick the days they taped all studio scenes of the previous episodes but was suddenly back at the wedding as ringbearer. Carrie Mitchum’s Donna was at the beach to film the wedding but apparently not when they took these flimsy photos back at the studio with the intention to fill airtime without spending too much time and money for the rest of the episode. Weird!

The only preemptions for the first half of 1994 are January 17th (Northridge earthquake), February 21st (Winter Olympics) and March 17-18th (NCAA Basketball).

I just looked up the Oklahoma City bombing - that actually occurred on April 19, 1995. I see an episode did go to air that day (#2019) but that could be wrong. Time to check Usenet again lol.

Sorry, that was a typo on my part: I meant 1995. I assume it was one of very few pre-emption dates in 1995. Can you confirm this?

One more question about Thanksgiving / Christmas: did the show air on December 25 in 1995 (#2192  aka the most rerun B&B Xmas on CBS) or did the show air the Friday after Thanksgiving (November 24, 1995), meaning that the Christmas show aired on Friday, December 22?

  7. 1 hour ago, Troppo said:

I dug around the Usenet archives. The dates B&B was preempted in the latter half of 1994 are:

    June 30th-July 1st and July 5-8th (all O.J hearing)

July 25th and August 19th (Rerun episode)

September 5th and September 9th (US Open coverage)

    November 24th (Thanksgiving)

The Malibu wedding (#1885) aired October 3rd.

    As for 1995:

    January 2nd (Special programming)

    January 24th, 26th and 30th (O.J trial)

    Episode #1949 aired January 3rd.

Wow - thanks for checking all these... It adds up with data and some "given dates" perfectly. If I may ask: April 19, 1994 was a national pre-emption for B&B (Oklahoma City bombing) and no new episode aired?

A fascinating effect (sort of) of all the OJ pre-emotions was B&B starting season 9 with #2001, even though standard seasons are always more than 250 episodes a year.

If it was the first episode to air in 1995, wouldn’t it have been produced in 1994 though?

Yes, but the copyright is uaually up-to-date. Meaning the first episode of 2023 had 2023 as copyright date. Should have been the same in 1995 - unless there was a last-minute-preemption in December 1994 or they messed up...

Do we know if ep 1948 aired in 1994 or 1995? The end credits say 1994 but the episode guide says it's the first episode of 1995.

I'd be curious to get info on this, too! Someone on here was tech-savvy enough to dig out the old google groups on soaps... Could he/she help? @YRBB was this you?

On a related note: the Excel file provided in the Vault has Thursday September 29 1994 as a pre-emption. I think this is wrong and therefore all airdates from August-September are off by one day. Can someone confirm that B&B did or did not air on September 29 - the day before part of the Bridge Malibu wedding aired on CBS!?

In #1865 Prince Omar throws a lavish party for his dear "Leila" (Taylor). This causes a huge influx of extras and day players to be seen. Is this by any chance Academy Award Nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo (which we all know best as Dina Araz, the mother of Behrooz on "24" with Kiefer Sutherland)!??? On B&B she is Greesa Abineer (and never to be seen again, I guess), the wife of Omar's treasurer.

Why waste time with EB and Flannery when we can have countless scenes of Brooke disrobing for Jack, standing around in lingerie and kissing Victor? That whole crossover was dumb and a complete waste.

I also hate that every single crossover seems to happen solely to help/prop B&B. It never does a thing for Y&R (going all the way back to 1992 and having Scott actually die on B&B instead of the show where he originated just to help their ratings).

That Jabot/Forrester Crossover was a huge mess. SI much wasted Potential. It just felt off

How is 1999 so far for you?

In my memory 1999/2000 had great storyLINES. Stories actually mattered and had a huge buildup and big climax. Downside: every day in LA lasted liked 20 episodes and we only got to see a certain set of characters for those days. Amber was on every single day. 24/7.

That is incredibly cheap and tacky looking. That generic awful skyline. And that font. What on earth were they thinking?

I looks extremely dated and fanmade. Like when YouTube first became "a thing" - if someone got paid more than a dollar for this, he/she who authorised this project should be fired ASAP.

The angel has resumed uploading '94 eps to the new vault! Thank you so much, angel!

    Woohoo! Thanks a lot!

@slick jones and others: Surprise sighting - Rebecca Budig as Cathy in #1857 (August 1994), a very minor role in a campus scene with Dylan and Jessica.

EDIT: Do we know this actor? I think I have seen his face on various 1990s sitcoms!

  14. Thanks for sharing these links. On Instagram there is also tons of great stuff…

Tom Hallick, J Eddie Peck & Victoria Rowell. They truly invited a lot of folks that are usually not around at those Y&R parties and/or have not been seen on Y&R in decades. Kudos! A lush party - and a huge one at that.

EDIT: Phill Morris, Robert Parucha and Roberta Leighton - talk about some more surprise guests

  15. This is pretty cool - and a pleasant surprise. Considering that primetime ratings are in the toilet on several occasions during the week, it's about time that use this space to promote their daytime line-up/use this rather cheap filler material. IMO; they should give primetime airings of the soaps another try. LIke last year when Sheila shot Steffy and Finn it should have been a primetime event in either a one hour or two hour block.

I wasn’t a fan at all of the planned Victor & Christine pairing and was just fine with them as friends, Nikki’s reaction was a bit over the top considering Brad & Nikki’s summer 1995 affair out of town was the first time she left the ranch in like a year 🤣.

Ah, fond memories of the original desperate housewife: Mid90s Nikki was GOLD. She literrally barely left the ranch - and, even if she did, it took her like 10 episodes to do so and her main reason was to spout insults at Christine or Ashley (?).

A couple questions (sorry if this has been discussed before):

What's going on with the end credits for the early 1990 episodes? Seems like they're just repeating the same one (Deveney Marking directing, Maria Arena script) over and over, having replaced the actual credits. Does this go on for a while?

The 1997 episodes being uploaded to YT right now have zero background music. Surely this isn't how they were broadcast? What's going on over there?! LOL

I’m not watching the YouTube uploads for this season, but even with Videoland the closing titles for 1987-1990 episodes have been sometimes “fishy”, meaning not in sync of what we have seen onscreen and it sometimes appeared to be the same credits for many episodes. As for the 1997 episodes: they are simply messing things up. We have discussed this a couple of pages back...

I was always a Taylor fan but watching the show back now it is kind of unfathomable to me how often they let Hunter come and go. I mean, I feel like stories from 94-96 are nearly completely derailed because of her being so in and out.

-94 she leaves to film a miniseries

-Late 94 she returns (but apparently stayed away longer than anticipated- though they always knew she was coming back)

-Early 96 she leaves for Melrose Place

-Late 96 she returns (only for a few weeks though because she immediately goes on maternity leave)

Prior to the 94 exit it seemed like there was an obvious set up for Taylor to get pregnant and be unsure of who the father was (she and Ridge had been trying to get pregnant non-stop and she slept with James at Big Bear). They were clearly tting up a very messy quadrangle.

When Hunter returned in 94, it felt like the show was not sure how long she would stick around (with good reason) so they stuck her in a nothing romance with Eric that never went anywhere and they never even had sex.

Then it seems like they get somewhat confident Tylo is going to stick around so they cast Charles Grant as an ex-lover who wants another chance only for Tylo to actually leave shortly after and they pivot to that very lazy Grant/Brooke/Ridge whatever.

Then Tylo returns in 96 and in one of the most nonsensical moments ever on the show accepts Ridge's marriage proposal even though they barely had 5 conversations since her return. Then she disappears to go on maternity leave.

I don't like mid 94-96 of the show very much and I think its partly because you can see them stopping and starting stories and doing all these strange pivots because of this.

Also I will always wonder what the original point was of the letter Taylor wrote confessing to Ridge. Was that Bill's idea that Bradley didn't like so he just dropped it? Stephanie took it and never gave it to Ridge but it makes no sense to me that they didn't use it as part of Taylor's 94 return when they KNEW that Hunter was coming back. It was just a very bizarre and dumb choice? I heard they brought it up again in 2005 and I couldn't care less about that or anything after 2002, but I really don't get having a story where she sleeps with James, writes a letter confessing, Stephanie intercepts and then NEVER addressing it again in 94, 95 or 96 when she returned.

Thanks for the detailed recap. I noticed this, too, and was completely unaware during the original watch that Taylor's story was botched up repeatedly probably due to Tylo's outs.

@slick jonesand other trivia buffs: Any idea who played DR. PARMELL in #1850? a doctor with whom Eric is discussing the proecure of having a vasectomy.

The current breakdown writers and script writers are, for the most part, lazy as hell.  We saw that with our own eyes in 2020.  Television production was curtailed for several months due to the pandemic.  Several scripts had already been written but hadn't been taped yet.  If YOU were one of the writers, what would YOU have done during the shutdown?  I know what I would've done.  I would've taken every single script I'd written that hadn't been taped yet and re-written it to make it BETTER.  There was no time constraint whatsoever; you had literally WEEKS to polish each script and make each line of dialogue sharper, cleverer, and filled with subtext.  It was a writer's dream -- to have all those "bonus weeks" to polish his scripts and make them perfect.  I fully expected that when production resumed, we would see on our screens the smartest, best-written episodes in the show's history.  What did we get instead?  Complete crap.  These writers didn't bother to revise one word.  They just left the garbage they'd completed before the pandemic sitting on a table somewhere, and when production resumed, the actors picked up those dusty, cliché-riddled scripts and started spouting the drab dialogue that had been written months ago.

Ain't this the truth. I was shocked. On B&B it seemed like they actually spent some time to polish for the return scripts and stories. Didn't sound like it in Genoa City at all.
