GH: March 2025 Discussion Thread
I co-sign this. I have complaints about the show, but some of these suggestions from soap fans are...a choice. I made fun of Joss and The WSB thing when it started, but I agree GH has done a good job of making it plausible. The actors are selling it as well as anyone could, and the guy playing Vaughn is excellent.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
Yes, American Dreams was a really good drama. I loved it. The actor you're thinking of is Tom Verica, who's now a bigtime producer for Shonda Rhimes. He was in the How To Get Away With Murder cast for a time and then went on to exec produce Scandal and Bridgerton. Your opinion, of course, but that seems like an overreaction. Yep to all of this. I like Maurice Johnson and I've posted multiple times about it, but people are running with this like it's some kind of scandal. It's not.

BTG: First-ever role recast!
I don't know Maurice Johnson, but I have to defend him here. I've now read multiple times that it's possible he couldn't handle the pacing and rigors of daytime, that he wasn't up to the production grind, that he couldn't handle all that dialogue. I'm sorry, but it's not like Ted had monologues all over the place. I don't recall any scenes with demanding dialogue, frankly, and I think it's wrong to tag an actor with that. Is it possible? Yes, but it's also possible he came to work drunk every day and everyone had to sit around until he sobered up. It's demeaning -- in my opinion -- to attribute the recasting to MJ being unable to handle the work. I think this is clearly a case of "taking the character in a different direction." I trust this was given careful consideration and I hope this isn't followed by more recasts any time soon. I don't like the signals that multiple recasts would send to the audience.

Karla Mosley in only about 7 years older than Sean Freeman, but the difference between them reads generational to me. It's not a Mrs. Robinson situation, and I don't have a problem with May/December relationships on soaps, but this one feels off to me. Just as I don't understand why we're supposed to see some possibility between Andre and Ashley, I don't understand the possibility of Andre and Dani, either. You know how Andre had a heart-to-heart with Nicole about his romantic life? That's the same relationship I think he should have with Dani.

😂😂😂 Have to agree. All that ham and chewing of scenery is something to see. I know that conventional wisdom is that she'll win an Emmy for her "Doug's funeral" scenes, but she was so over-the-top that I couldn't stop staring at my screen with my mouth wide open. I felt like I was watching Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.

Whoa. I don't get this at all. Robinson is 3 years older than Maurice Johnson, but I think he reads younger, and the ages on BTG are already screwed up. More importantly, Johnson was doing just fine in the role. I can name a bunch of other actors I'd recast before him. I think it's a mistake to do any recasting before the first 13-week cycle is up, and I don't like the message this sends.

I'm sure you realized I mean Google machine 😂 Is there any good reason for Joy keeping her pregnancy a secret from Alex? Or did Ron just wake up one day and realize he already had another "I got her pregnant" storyline running? The establishing shots on DAYS are the worst of any soap by far, to the point that I enjoy them because they're so laughable. A high schooler could do a better job with these shots. I honestly think Janet Spellman-Drucker is a luddite who doesn't even know how to use that Google machine I mentioned.

I'm on record as despising the Natalia character. I hate what she did and what she said, and I don't want her on my screen. Eva LaRue has been a dud on GH. Would she have worked if she hadn't been painted as a homophobic POS? Maybe. I'm not sure. But I will defend ELR, I can see her being hired and knowing the outline -- that she'd play a mother who struggled with her daughter's sexuality. It's entirely possible she had no idea how unlikable and even hatable they'd write Natalia. With those GH taping schedules, do you really think she had the agency to hold up production with complaints about her lines? No way. She did her job and barreled through that dialogue, and now here we are.

That was the worst part of today's show. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I heard that. I also hated that once again Valentin was THISCLOSE to death and once again was bailed out. Frank loves saving his boyfriend. I did appreciate Chase's scenes with Lulu. They finally gave Josh Swickard something to play.

Yep, now we have the Javi character being wrecked at the altar of Leo. And why was it a big deal to hear Javi say he loves Leo? Shouldn't you frickin love someone before you move him into your house? Yeah, too nice for that tiny kitchen we get. Janet Spellman-Drucker must be on her Goggle machine again. Sure looks like it. Disaster.

Y&R: March 2025 Discussion Thread
I've complained non-stop about Y&R lately, but this week was pretty good, and Friday was a good cliffhanger. -- The family scenes (like Friday's with Jack, Diane, Traci, and Kyle) are well-written with natural and real performances. -- At least the kidnapping is over. -- Looking at next week's previews, I worry the Alan plot will be rushed. Josh Griffith is bad at a lot of things, including playing the beats. There has to be something between his 3-week story arcs and the old days when Bill Bell took 3 years to finish a story. -- I've been bored with Adam and Chelsea, but yesterday's scenes worked. They had some depth, and I felt movement in their relationship. -- I am so tired of being teased with a possible Sharon and Nick reunification. If you're not going to go there, don't mention it. Seems like a sick joke to those of us who want them together and "know" they should be together. If you're writing Nick as someone with a deep understanding of what they have together, then don't have him lead Sharon on before telling her they're better off as friends. It's cruel to her and cruel to the audience.

That's where I am. I've offered some criticisms of the show, but I consider it to be normal soap talk. The wrong thing to do would be to say everything -- the dialogue, the acting, the sets, etc. -- is fire. I really enjoy BTG and am extremely happy it's on the air. I think MVJ is a hero and a miracle worker for getting this to air. She has cemented her role in daytime history. She is legacy and she is iconic. I have no words to fully explain how impressive she is. That does not mean I won't criticize what's not working. I agree. Ambitions was a wild ride and a lot of fun. Jamey Giddens gets a ton of criticism here, but he did really good work on Ambitions. Many of the people here who are wild about BTG mention reasons that were all over the place in Ambitions. My guess is that most people here never watched an episode of Ambitions. So do I think Jamey is a positive addition to BTG? I do.
