All the Nielsen reports list is "Special Treat" (no episode titles). So I looked in the newspaper listings, and I guess Unicorn Tales is the local/syndicated program that the New York affiliate aired in the For Richer time slot. The 4PM slot in New York is listed as Special Treat: Luke Was There (a children's story with Scott Baio). So that is the network program that was rated. Unicorn Tales was local and not listed at all in the Nielsen report.

A note for some of the Nielsen "missing weeks." 4-5 times a year, at least in the 1970's, Nielsen would have 4 weeks they skipped over and only issued fast national ratings. Those 4 weeks from 1978 are not available, but the ones from 1979 and 1980 are included. A rundown of the missing weeks of Nielsen data from 1978-1980: 1978....2 main weeks (and 5 fast national weeks) 1979...6 main weeks 1980...Complete!

They are doing it because of specials they aired on those days in the 4PM time slot (an open slot). So I guess they gave back a half hour to their affiliates by not airing For Richer those days. So far, the 4PM specials to necessitate For Richer preemptions have been several editions of "Special Treat" (I think the NBC version of ABC Afternoon Special) and a Bob Hope golf tournament.

2023: The Directors and Writers Thread
LONG-TIME "DAYS" SCRIPT WRITERS CAROLYN & RICHARD CULLITON RETIRE... In response to a "Days" fan today, Carolyn Culliton confirmed that both she and her husband, Richard Culliton, retired from "Days" in April. That should put their last scripts airing around October or November 2023. Richard Culliton briefly wrote for "Days" in 1987 and 2001, before joining the show full-time in 2008. Carolyn Culliton joined "Days" in 2010. In that span, the duo have been responsible for writing the dialogue for over 1,200 "Days" episodes. I thought that was it. But if you add 3 000's to the total viewers (2 years and older) for Days (1278), that puts Days at 1.278 million viewers total. Yet the average column (the one we are used to looking at), is over 5 million. So, that's where my confusion comes in. I always thought the # I am used to seeing is the average number per day, but you mean to say the 5 million average is the total for the week? So, really, Days had just 1.2 million people watching per DAY, so when you average it out for the WEEK (the #'s that are the ones most usually reported), the number goes to just over 5 million? I wouldn't have the stats on that, but I would think we have probably passed that mark by now. I don't know of any other daily scripted shows that have been on a streamer for 9 months.

Yes, Bill's just a little over 2000 and Susan is just closing in on 3000, so Dee passed both of them long ago in the episode rankings. Suzanne just hit 3000 last year. No one has been in at least 3700 episodes except for Drake and Kristian ,who are both in the 4300s. Here's the full list (as of 12/31/22): http://www.jason47.com/days/episoderankings.html

JASON47'S DEIDRE HALL COUNTDOWN TO 5000 EPISODES CONCLUDES...HAPPY 5000, DEIDRE! Each of the 25 episodes that Deidre Hall appeared in (from 4,976 to 5,000) featured an episode summary countdown of her first 25 appearances on "Days" from 1976. To wrap things up, here is Deidre's 25th episode # 2732, which aired September 21, 1976. Also included as a bonus is her 26th episode, which featured the debut of Marlena's first residence. 2732...9/21/76: EPISODE # 25: Cast: Tom, Mickey, Bill, Mike, Robert, Linda, Trish, Marlena, Laura, Jack, Ben. Sets: Tom's Clinic Office, Mickey's Sanitarium Room, Linda's Apartment, Trish's Apartment, Doug's Place Bar Area & Entrance with Phone. While Mickey and Marlena speak at odds about his release from the sanitarium, Laura reveals her deep concern that she may still not be objective enough about Mickey, although in her heart she feels he is ready to join the outside world. Later, Tom and Marlena discuss the problem of Mickey's release. Marlena is surprised that Tom knows about the affair between Linda and Mike. Tom hopes they can trust Linda and Mike not to tell Mickey. Tom goes to the sanitarium, begs Mickey not to use Laura in trying to win his freedom. Mickey devastates his father with a truth- that his and Laura's hearts are still linked- not in love, but in pain. They will have to be each other's therapy. 2738...9/29/76: EPISODE # 26: BONUS EPISODE: THE DEBUT OF MARLENA'S FIRST RESIDENCE Cast: Tom, Alice, Bill, Robert, Don, Rebecca, Marlena, Laura, Kim, Hope. Sets: Doug's Place Bar Area, Doug's Place Family Room, Marlena's Apartment, Bill's Clinic Office, Horton Living Room. Marlena is in Bill's office, where she learns about the new wedding plans. She questions him briefly about Don, but is actually there to discuss Laura. Bill says she's so busy, she hasn't had time to worry about her own problems. Meanwhile, Laura wonders how Hope reacted to the idea of her father marrying her half-sister, and Tom says Rebecca is telling her about it today. At Doug's Place, Rebecca is doing just that, by relating it in the terms of a fairy tale. Hope's only concern is that she will be able to be the flower girl in the wedding. Marlena arrives at Doug's Place, finding Don alone in the deserted restaurant. Trying to be upbeat, Don asks Marlena to go out on the town with him, but she refuses, reminding him never to get involved on the rebound. He's a little tipsy, and jokingly blames her for the mess his life is in. It was on her advice he went after Julie in the first place. Marlena arrives home, is a bit tired, restless, when there is a knock on the door. It's a slightly inebriated Don. Rather than send him out on the Salem streets in his condition, she decides to pour some food into him and sober him up. Actually, she doesn't totally mind his company. But he falls asleep at the table during dinner, which she knows is best for him...he's hurting.
