  1. FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 5/12/80-5/16/80 & 5/19/80-5/23/80: FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: MAY SWEEPS LOOK AT ALL DAYTIME SERIES: WEEK OF 5/19/80-5/23/80:
  2. I hadn't known she had written for GH. I only list this in my bio of her on my site (which was written quite a long time ago): "Bewitched", "My World and Welcome To It", "The Odd Couple" and "Gidget" as well as several "Gidget" movies. I see she died in summer of 1981, so perhaps she got sick just after joining Days and that's why she left so quickly?
  3. When I eventually got all the Days script covers, it was confusing as to Nina's dates as writer, since I had always heard it was called the Valentine's Day massacre. And there's no record I can find of why Ruth Flippen, who never did soaps, was brought on for just a month until Nina took over on April 21. The soap history books always seem to credit Nina as with having written off all the characters, but they were all basically gone by the time she showed up. She was the one responsible for writing the new characters, but not for writing off all of the Hortons and others. Ruth Brooks Flippen..............................3/17/80-4/18/80.............3634-3658 (25) Nina Laemmle.......................................4/21/80-10/9/80.............3659-3782 (124)
  4. Yes, I was surprised to see that as well. Sometimes when it's such a big change, I think I have misread the number! Each time after I type everything in though, I do a double-check to make sure I didn't mis-type anything.

  8. 1979-1980 TV SEASON RATINGS (10/1/79-4/18/80): Checking Wiki, these ratings do match exactly what is posted as the season ratings. The time slot changes for the CBS soaps are only listed by time slot in the Nielsen books. The Wiki page has the average rating for both time slots. So for the 1977-1978, 1978-1979 and 1979-1980 seasons, we will now have both an October-April season rating (matching what is on Wiki), as well as the full October-September season ratings (not available anywhere online before!).

  14. You're welcome! I mainly wanted the "Days" ratings, but it's nice to also be able to provide the other soap ratings as well, and the extra unexpected benefit is also getting all of the full preemption data for all of the soaps! I didn't even remember when typing it today that you were on the lookout for a YR preemption at some point during this time in 1978. So the mystery is finally solved!
  15. FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 10/2/78-10/6/78 & 10/9/78-10/13/78:
  16. FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 2/25/80-2/29/80 & 3/3/80-3/7/80:
  17. In regards to the 1977-1978 TV season ratings, since I see they differ from the ones posted at Wiki, what accounts for the difference? Are the ones at Wiki only for September-April/May and not counting the summer months? If so, what week in 1978 should I post the "season" averages for. Something around late April/early May? UPDATE: Okay, I just read the Wiki page again and it states it is only the September-April ratings. Unfortunately, that is the one issue (late April 1978) that I do not have, so we won't be able to compare the ratings for the 1977-1978 season to see how they do. But at least now we know that there will be "full season" (October-September) ratings for 1978, 1979 and 1980 available for the first time online. Hopefully Nielsen doesn't make that same mistake in September 1979 with the CBS soaps.
  18. FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 9/18/78-9/22/78 & 9/25/78-9/29/78: FROM THE VAULT: 1977-1978 TV SEASON DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: Due to Nielsen's error, I used the most recent season averages (ending 9/15/78) for the 5 CBS soaps, but they do not include the final two weeks of the season (9/18/78-9/29/78).
  19. SONJA ALARR, WIFE OF "DAYS" PRODUCER/DIRECTOR ALBERT ALARR, WRITES TODAY'S EPISODE... Sonja Alarr, the wife of long-time "Days" producer/director Albert Alarr, was listed as the script writer of today's "Days" episode. She also wrote a few "Days" episodes in 2018.
  20. It would be helpful if Days could have a "breakout" in the 1978-1980 ratings, since I can confirm Days never aired a repeat during that time frame. In these cases in 1978, there were not news interruptions, just a much smaller amount of affiliates airing the shows that day.
  21. As far as I know, all breakout means is the network tells Nielsen it does not want that episode counted as part of the weekly/yearly averages, since those breakout episodes (airing on much smaller amount of affiliates) would bring down the overall weekly/yearly averages. It does not mean it is a repeat. What I had said earlier about the YR 9/4/78 is that I could not confirm whether it was a new episode or a repeat just on the basis of it being a breakout.

  23. 1979-1980 TV Season Demos (as of January 13, 1980) Second chart is ranked by Male Viewers. "Days" is # 1 while YR is actually all the way at the bottom (just above Love of Life)
  24. FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 9/4/78-9/8/78 & 9/11/78-9/15/78:
