I just wanted to get those math problems done so now we know exactly what's up with all of the 4 current soaps! So any "A" episodes would fall into the "Full Preemptions: 414 preemptions (includes classic episodes & specially-numbered episodes)" category. Fans of BB, YR, GH, I've provided the full preemptions for 1979-1999 and now I've done the math problems to confirm exactly how many preemptions (or in special cases, insert/A or classic episodes) in total each of your soaps has had. So that's as far as I can help out in regards to the other soaps. Now, it's up to historians to use these numbers and confirm which of the "full preemptions" was actually an insert ("A") episode or a classic repeat episode. I'm sure some of you have already done that research, but I hope my Nielsen preemptions confirmation has helped your episode guides some!!

And for "Days" fans, here's why the #s don't add up (at first glance)! DAYS (as of 11/3/23): Possible Airdates: 15130 airdates Aired: 14719 regular episodes (but two of these aired in primetime due to OJ Simpson trial), so only 14717 episodes have aired in the daytime Full Preemptions: 413 preemptions So, even though Days is at # 14719, since two of those episodes aired in primetime, that puts the #s at this to make the math problem correct! 15130 possible airdates Minus 14717 daytime episodes Equals 413 full preemptions Another fun fact: These two things actually equal each other out: 5364A aired on 11/27/86. Due to a preemption and the soon-to-air primetime special Winter Heat, Days had to edit 7208 and 7209 into one episode. So the insert episode (5364A) at first added one extra Days episode to the math problem, but then the editing of two episodes (7208/7209) into one episode brought the math problem back to how it is above!

HAPPY RETIREMENT, CAROLYN CULLITON & RICHARD CULLITON! Long-time "Days" script writers Carolyn Culliton & Richard Culliton were removed from the credits today. The husband and wife duo retired together in April 2023. Carolyn's final "Days" script aired on October 20, and Richard's last script aired on November 2. The duo wrote the dialogue for 1,260 "Days" scripts since 2008. Happy retirement, Carolyn & Richard!

NOTE ON SEPTEMBER 1990 PREEMPTIONS: Until I went to type them today, I forgot that I still have not received 3 issues from September 1990 and 1 issue from March 1991. Those are available, so we just have to wait on getting those 4. Unfortunately, the September 1990 time frame is just when the TV season changes. So, I can't compare the "# of telecasts" from the 9/3/90 issue to the 10/1/90 issue. So, the preemptions for the weeks of 9/10, 9/17 and 9/24/90 will still be a mystery for the time being, hopefully ready by the end of the year At least the "missing" week (for now) from March 1991 can have the telecasts compared to figure out if any full preemptions happened that week. While ABC and NBC considered the week of 10/1/90 the "season premiere" week (each soap has only 5 telecasts listed in that book), CBS must have considered the week of 9/17/90 the "season premiere" week, so we do know that ATWT, BB, GL and YR all aired 10 episodes for the weeks of 9/17/90 and 9/24/90 (since they are all listed as 15 telecasts in the 10/1 book, except for GL, which has 14 telecasts listed, but did not have a rated episode on 10/5/90). For now, I will use the Soap Opera Weekly ratings/shares for the weeks of 9/10, 9/17 and 9/24/90 and update the charts with the affiliates/clearances/preemptions when those books are ready.

My thanks to TEdgeofNight for tracking down the shares for these two weeks! I have re-issued both charts and replaced them in the thread, so each week now lists the shares! Hopefully those two Nielsen books will be found someday, but in the meantime, these are the numbers to be used:

I haven't done September 1990-August 1991 yet, so I am missing 12 preemptions for BB (based on Script 1575). YRFan posted these 13 for that time frame, so one of these dates below had to have aired an episode (possibly the "3 preemptions in 2/91 are actually only 2). There can only be 12 preemptions of BB max from 9/90-8/91.
