  1. "DAYS" RATINGS: 1980-1989: HIGHEST-RATED WEEKS: With the 1980's ratings charts nearing completion, I went ahead and put in the November and December 1989 "Days" ratings so I could start sorting the complete decade of ratings. This is a sample of what is now available for each soap for 1980's ratings fans: Here are the top 200 highest-rated weeks for "Days of Our Lives" from 1980-1989: (Note: Weeks in red are "fast weekly" weeks and are only preliminary numbers. They do not count in the yearly averages for soaps) 1st to 50th place 51st to 100th place 101st to 150th place 151st to 200th place "DAYS" HIGHEST-RATED WEEK IN THE 1980's: Here's a look at the highest-rated week of "Days" in the 1980's, the week of 12/29/86-1/2/87, when it got an 8.9 rating:
  2. FIRST SOAP OPERA WEEKLY CHART FROM 10/16/89 MATCHES NIELSEN BOOK EXACTLY! Here's the first confirmation that the Soap Opera Weekly charts will match exactly what is in the Nielsen books:
  3. ABOUT TO TYPE UP THE NIELSEN VERSION OF THE FIRST-EVER SOAP WEEKLY CHART FROM 10/16/89! I just looked at the network press release charts that I posted on my site many years ago for Aug/Sep/Oct 1989. They all match exactly to the Nielsen books except for one item: The week of 9/25/89. YR is listed on the network release as 7.6/31. This must have been before the 1230-1PM portion of Monday 9/25 was classified as a breakout (only half the usual affiliates got this portion). So, taking that half hour out of YR upped its final official rating for the week to 7.8/32. I am now typing up the Nielsen book version of the first-ever Soap Opera Weekly chart of 10/16/89, so I will update you if there are any differences as to what SOW has listed.

  7. Oh, Darlene wasn't an original cast member from March 1987? I just always figured she was.
  8. I just checked back in here since you responded, but I checked my Soap Opera Weekly archive, which I realized might have some daily previews with dates, so here is some of what is listed for GL in Soap Weekly upcoming previews (and they match what Nielsen has; preemptions only on 12/25, 12/31 and 1/1): 12/24- Scavenger hunt 12/25- (All soaps preempted except BB & YR, which air classic Christmas episodes; matches Nielsen) 12/26- Philip sees Beth with another man; Michelle breaks Jesse's heart 12/29- Dinah goes after Vanessa 12/30- Annie and Beth ruin NYE 12/31- (no GL listed; per Nielsen preempted) 1/1- (All soaps preempted; matches Nielsen) 1/2- Dinah's actions stun Matt 1/5- Michelle and Jesse make love Young and the Restless: 1997: Full Preemptions: 1/1/97 Tournament of Roses Parade (11AM-130PM) 1/20/97 CBS News: Inauguration Coverage (11AM-1PM) & (Local Fill: 1-130PM) 3/13/97 NCAA Basketball 1: Various Teams (1210-244PM) 3/14/97 NCAA Basketball 1: Various Teams (1210-242PM) 9/1/97 US Open 1 (11AM-1241PM) & US Open Bonus (1241-111PM) & US Open 2 (111-601PM) 9/5/97 US Open 1 (11AM-1245PM) & US Open Bonus (1245-118PM) & US Open Bonus (118-137PM) 11/27/97 Sports Illustrated for Kids 1 (1230-1PM) & Sports Illustrated for Kids 2 (1-130PM) 12/25/97 (Note: Classic episode per Soap Opera Weekly, but rated as regular episode) Young and the Restless: 1997: Partial Preemptions & Special Airings: 6/30/97 1241-130PM (49 minutes); 1230-1241 PBO (78 percent affs) 12/25/97 (Note: Classic episode per Soap Opera Weekly, but rated as regular episode)
  9. It sounds like the GL dates on Soap Central are just off by a day that week then. It did air on 12/26, and did not air on 12/31. So the 12/29 recap should be listed as 12/26; the 12/30 recap should be listed as 12/29; the 12/31 recap should be listed as 12/30; and then no episode aired (so no recap on 12/31). UPDATE: Soap Central doesn't have recaps for 12/24/97, 12/25/97, 12/26/97, 12/31/97, 1/1/98, 1/2/98. Nielsen shows that GL aired on 12/24/97 (98 percent of affiliates); 12/26/97 (98 percent of affiliates); and 1/2/98 (98 percent of affiliates), so that's three days of Soap Central that need a recap, or some of these I guess were "classic" episodes?

  14. Nielsen has an episode of BB airing on 12/25/97 from 130-2PM. 95 percent of the country got it. If it's a repeat episode (like CBS lists Y&R Classics in Nielsen), it's not denoted as such. It's also not listed as a "special" or "breakout" episode, so it counts towards the regular ratings. BoldKara, whatever dates are not on the preemptions lists that I post, it means an episode aired that day. The CBS schedule for 12/25/97 is this: Young and the Restless (1230-130PM; 95 percent of affiliates) Bold and the Beautiful (130-2PM; 95 percent of affiliates) CBS Sports Special: Tiger and Friends (2-4PM; 100 percent of affiliates) The Soap Opera Weekly ratings do mention they are both classic episodes, but they were not listed that way on Nielsen, so I wouldn't have known! I've added a note to the 1997 BB preemptions list about this. I will add the same note to the 1997 YR list when I post it. Historians of other soaps, you need to contact me if you know of any of these circumstances for your soaps (when a repeat is aired, but Nielsen lists it as a regular episode). Those can be added to each soap's preemptions list if you have any to let me know about!
  15. Yes, I know 3 weeks are not in SOW from October 1989, November 1989 and January 1990. I was just speaking in general terms, "pretty much" every week will be available once I post September 1989 here in a few weeks. Then a few days after that, once I post through January 1990, every week will be available from January 1979-Present except for 8/24/81!
  16. DEIDRE HALL & LAUREN KOSLOW HIT HIGHEST MONTHLY TOTAL FOR ANYONE SINCE 2020...HALL TIES HER HIGHEST MONTHLY RANKING SINCE 2018...LAUREN KOSLOW TIES HER MOST EPISODES IN A MONTH SINCE 2013... Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Lauren Koslow (Kate) are the first "Days" actors to appear in 16 episodes in a month in over three years, since Lindsay Arnold (Allie) appeared in 17 episodes in July 2020. Hall last appeared in 16 episodes in August 2018. She last appeared in at least 17 episodes in a month in February 2008. Meanwhile, Lauren Koslow (Kate) last hit that mark in December 2013. Koslow last appeared in at least 17 episodes in a month in September 2010. Both actors have a chance to extend their October appearances with two more episodes airing on October 30 and October 31.
  17. I was shocked as well to see Days tied YR for 1st on 8/1/88. I only knew Days hit first place on 7/25/88. So, it was actually 1st place (alone, then tied) for two weeks in a row! Fun to finally have all of the weekly 1980's data finally available! I'm typing up September 1989 charts today, so this is the day the charts are fully complete through when Soap Opera Weekly started posting them. And, since I post a month of ratings each day here, then fans worldwide will have access through September 1989 within the next 2 weeks! And the remaining data from October 1989-Present is already available.
  18. Fans will have to do that research on their own like you did. I eventually will figure out and post the ranking of Days each week on my site, but I don't have a way of checking each soap's weekly ranking, other than the weekly chart check like you just did.
  19. I have this at the bottom of one of my ratings pages, so if it helps any with 1989-2022 TV seasons!
