  1. Okay, I brought it up, but I don't think she is "awful" though yes deluded. At first I thought she was one of those oddballs like Candace who went to all the fan stuff and was totally enamored with LW (and Cassie, only because she was played by LW) and then did not like the replacement until she started playing up to her...it was weird, these people who identify with the actors so much. However, I don't think this person has ever even met the two of them and it just seems..sad. And if there is one, there are more out there.
  2. Lord..you have to bring back the memory of Calla and her VD! (to add insult to injury they had the nerve to foreshadow it on the same day Ed tells Mo that Bert died!) But original recipe Reva, while having some real clunkers of storylines (uh, parachuting out of a plane in a fur coat and crashing through the roof of an Amish barn?) did fit into GL..she her her issues, but was basically a good person who was insecure and kept screwing up. The saving grace of the Kyle years was her actually going out on her own and getting a job (first at Cedars then as a photographer) fixing up RevaBend, and mixing it up with other men as just friends (Fletcher, Phillip, Johnny) Zimmer had chemistry with everyone back then, and she was indeed, sexy as hell, but not a goddess on a throne. You could see her doing shots and playing pool with the guys. They forgot all that and in her second incarnation, though she had hit middle age..hard, and became the sex goddess no man could resist and she became very self involved (did we ever hear her listen to anyone else's problems besides Cassie?) And with hitting middle age hard, getting rejected by Hollywood, did something to Zimmer and made her crazy to be the face of GL and to be on..every damn day, the hell with the other actors. Rauch supporting her and TPTB listening to her nut bag fans (one of who still posts on FB constantly that Zimmer and Newman are like family to her..) combined with the terrible writing, and all the other fan bases needing to be appeased, is what destroyed GL...not the character of Reva. And RN had great chemistry with the younger actors...like JD, he changed his style and slowed down and took his time and listened to them..and got away with his "REVA...we have to save her..GRRRR" A good storyline would be Shayne having psycological issues with seeing Annie and his mom and not Reva. Annie can still pull her crap but could have actually cared about Shayne and worked with Josh to help him...later on, I think Teen Marah should have been very aggressive towards Reva for constantly disrupting their lives.
  3. Which is b.s. we all know that JFP ran (or attempted to) the writers rooms on her shows. That is why she was so glad to get rid of Nancy Curlee ("Now we can do things MY way.") who would put up a fight. Even Curlee couldnt fight back on Maureen, that was ALL JFP.
  4. I think this was the major issue..I don't think Nancy would have married again. Some people just don't and are satisfied with their lives that are full without a partner. Not to mention that during Marland's time at least, the entire Hughes extended family (and I count Lisa, Barbara and Betsy and Andy in that) were constantly in and out and always needed a little check from the older generation. Plus, though Marland changed her to a sweet granny, Irna's Nancy had a backbone of steel, and I can't imagine a woman like that putting up with an new man in her house and her life..(especially one with ear hair and reeked of old smoke.) If they did go that route it would've been interesting to see a little friction then this sweet old couple who looked like they have been together for years. I think a guy would have an issue with the extended family (and really the whole town) affecting their day.. Dan: "Where are you going." Nancy: "Something about Barbara and kidnapping" Dan: "She's been kidnapped AGAIN!" Nancy: "No this time she is the kidnapper...really Dan..keep up, dear!"
  5. That is why I thought Jonathon should have been Eddie's...two psychos..(oh no..Jon was just..misuderstood..) and could reveal Reva to once again be the lying ho bag into banging brothers...(and I liked Reva..original recipe..) She just found it easier to "forget" she got drunk during a San Crud reception of boring blonde islanders and did Eds in the service pantry.....now THAT would have got me watching that. Would have given Jonathon a reason to hate Reva again (so boring when they were buds..) I was watching old episodes and Reva didn't put up with any of Dylan's crap and he wasn't half as crazy as Jon..he wore a leather jacket and said.."man" a lot was all!
  6. I know that was the point..finding love again, but it was too soon after Chris died and well, I always thought Dan was gross...he looked like he reeked of ciggies! Anyway, it also had that negative soap connotation that you are only worthwhile as part of a couple. Okay, plus I thought Dan was gross.
  7. Ah..GL was big competition to swimming pools that summer as we all had to run in from the pool when someone yelled out "Hey, Nola is about to get hers!" during the Nola/Kelly iconic scene. I think Kelly and Morgan worked quite a bit just because of plot..it was so much fun to watch Nola scheme and plot and the lies people bought..Kelly and Morgan were just two dupes. I wish they had brought JWS back for a one or two day quest stint (maybe the Bauer BBQ) during Nola's second go around...but that would have taken a lot of work, and McTrash remembering history. "You dodged a bullet, Morgan is a toothless meth head....poor dear!" Speaking of, it would have been fun, if they insisted on Nola being a wronged bitter woman, to have her revert to form and be hell on wheels, a divorce with Chamberlin cash, instead of needling Van, outright fighting her, finding out about Ed and Lillian and making them pay, taking Dinah's side against Van to bug her...."There there, Aunt Nola understands, your mother is just guilty over dumping you as a baby to grow up with carny folk..we really must try to understand her." Anything would have been better then the mope who had Budgie's Chele tell her off in a room full of people! When Reva first came to town and Billy HATED her, the whole thing was infused with Billy wanting to bang Reva again. The whole southern potboiler plot of two brothers and a dad wanting to jump on Reva...(and Zimmer was sex on a STICK back then) was great with sexual tension. Then when they became friends and post resurrection...Zimmer and Clark just had a warm chemistry...her face lit up when he was in a scene and Reva became kind of her old self..for a moment or two. Newman and Zimmer do have chemistry, it's just that it got old and worn out as again, the fans wouldn't let Jeva go. I thought Newman had great chemistry with FH when they were testing them..and Zimmer needed an acting partner that did not let her get away with her little "cheats" as she called it. While I grew to like ME as Dylan...Reva and Billy's kid should not have been that mellow and more of a (not so annoying) Jonathon type.
  8. I know..they just seem to be such odd fish together...this woman who writes off the cuff of her sleave and this tightly controlled closet case...(was he out to the industry?)
  9. That is my favorite Fridays...it knows it is cheesy and goes with it...I never thought about her being Morgan! Kelly/Morgan was a fantasy for young girls, no matter how plain you are, you can snag the handsome older guy..and its all "romance," but no sexual heat...but after the wedding there is no place to go with them. I thought it was a weird pairing...this palid, boring girl (did she even a personality) paired with an obviously gay muscle boy...it looked like a marriage of convenience. I always wanted Nola on her second round to ask Amanda "Hows...Moorgaaan" to hear her spit that name out one more time. Amanda....."Well, she has gained weight and lives in a trailer...." as Nola has a satisfied grin on her face.
  10. Agreed, but I will say his best role was on GL...(though the writing was terrible, it was just overnight Blake was hot for Ben...)It was a bit weird that wussy Craig who was about to cry if his latest girlfriend didn't spend every waking moment with him, the man who was obsessed with a pre teen and teenagers (Lily) volatile and annoying emotions, became basically a sarcastic prick..but.
  11. I'm just thinking about Long and Marland being friends...or at least friendly. I did see them on a talk show and Marland was very complimentary and vice versa to her. But such different writers and I wonder did he ever ask her, "Uh, Reva Shayne over Nola Reardon, and what did you do to the Bauers and the reset of my creations..Vanessa is a dowdy housewife?"
  12. Pam Long said in an interview that he had Monty's pic on the bottom of the toilet and she said, "Douglas, you need to let some things go!" She also said he would serve dinner in a velvet dinner jacket but would grab a rifle to shoot it off his patio..so DM was more interesting then we thought!
  13. Recasting Ed was definitely a Marland decision,...excuse me for this but he was acting like a pissy queen calling the previous actor "fat" because supposedly he dissed Marland's writing.
  14. I think they were chemistry testing him with Fulton during the scam time, (they also tested her and Nick which might have been interesting) and when they had them flirting it was after the trial during the strike material so they didn't know what to do with either of them. Originally the plan was for Lisa to come back to town involved with Brian McColl, not his dad..so I wonder if they were going to do a son/Lisa/father triangle which would have been interesting...without the Whit the Wig actor. Fulton wanted a relationship with Cal (who I thought was sexy) but they said no, so when he was murdered she wanted to wear a veil and cry to indicate that there was a thing off screen but they wouldn't let her. Oh boy, your starting something now...lol..I actually like Block as Craig and thought he was sexy..(I never liked whiney Craig Bryce but I know that's sacrilege here...) but can understand he got annoying after a while in that he ALWAYS won ( agree on Finn Carter..ugghhhh.) I wish soaps had done that more often..had people grow apart...on GL there was no reason to have Quint have an affair and have bitter mopey Nola around..all Nola had to say was she was tired of going on digs, being dirty, being away from her family and life with Quint wasn't as glam as she thought it would be ("Try taking a shower with cold water and scorpion...it isn't a movie.") or when Harley and Mallet broke up...they just drifted apart. But these shows build these dumb super couples up so much they can't have real relationship problems..
  15. The credits weren't right as the Dobson's were writing and Bartholemue was exec. The rumor I heard was that Munker was fired as she was instigating issues between the two..tho I have no idea how Shultz who seemed so..morose all the time was popular. Odd storyline for the summer...a young person dying and everyone sad..for about two days, then Babs is having a masked ball, Annie is getting married to scuzzy Brad and no one mentions Melinda again. The scary thing is, after the Dobsons left and they went through headwaiters and a strike they tried to pair Lisa and Brad...EEEWWWW...Michael Shea would be better!
  16. Exactly!!! You wouldn't need an Aunt Meta...(not that I didn't love MS) but you would have buttinsky Aunt Nola getting into everyone's business!
  17. Wow this is good! This is an umbrella storyline that works...Bauers Chamberlains, Lewis, Reardons and Marlers all having a legitimate stake in this. If only Nola were back to take up Bridgets side. Then of course, it's the Buzz Cooper fill in that takes the momentum out. I always thought Ross and Vanessa should have been end goal. If only Matt and Blake had been the ones to screw.
  18. O'Leary could be good as the big brother, best friend, nice reliable guy, connector in town everyone feels comfortable with and that is what a show needs. He is not a romantic lead or a dramatic actor and while he has a humorous charm, the show needed to really pull him in (like Deas, Zimmer, Dusay, the show just let the actors lean into their worst instincts.) Of. course, back in the day I like Rick over Phillip (the intensity was too much..) but Long wrote for him (most of the time) to his strengths. The Abby pairing was going to go nowhere..as she was just too nice (even Bert and Maureen had their time not being super nice...) I did wonder how Rick and Bridget would work...maybe Peter gets sick and he is the doctor and they grow close (bugging the crap out of Roger) and they have to bring Hart back for a blood transfusion or something...a better entrance then the one McTavish wrote for him. Both Rick and Frank needed a partner with a bit more of an edge or spark.
  19. Agreed..but it is weird..Frankie D was going to be Johnny's brother and she came back and put a stop to it...and created the Coopers..so you would think that would stick in her mind a bit. Her excuse for the Reva exit thing is that the Florida keys isn't even a place she is interested in ("Barbados yes, but not the Keys...) but that could have been chosen for production purposes, etc. I also thought it was weird when the host said that her treatment of the Bauers was the number one question people wrote in about (even though he goes on to say, "I don't think that is fair") and she was just off hand like "Well, if I hurt your feelings (the audience) I am sorry," in a sarcastic way. I guess it's just a job for these people.
  20. MH was the Ed I watched growing up so he is Ed to me. I didn't think PS was bad until after Mo died and he was just sour and pursing his lips all the time. I think after Charita died we needed a warm "cuddly" Bauer to anchor the show so I always thought that they needed to bring MH back. I think MOL could have been that Bauer but Rick becomes a mess on his rerun in 95, screwing the woman he thought was his sister growing up, harrassing her about the baby, and seem ing not to feel the least bit of guilt that he screwed the wife of the guy who was like an uncle to him really took the nice out of him. Not the least of which is MOL can't do "intense" without it coming up...weird. I just listened to a podcast where the host asked Pam Long (from the audience's questions) why she didn't like the Bauers. It's weird as she says she created Johnny (she didn't) and says "Well I didn't kill any of them," (she killed Hillary. She also says Jeff Ryder knew the history of the show and loved the Bauers, which didn't show on screen.
  21. I think it went back to Gautman not getting the "midwestern" vibe of the show (which he admitted in an interview.) I guess the Snyders kitchen was enough for one show but it seems odd that the core couple did not have a house..and people were going to talk to Nancy at that stupid diner (that and the Cooper diner were the ugliest sets on earth.) I don't old Gautey relized that outside of NYC, people spend a great deal of their lives in their kitchens. But it did burn me that they even had the set and wouldn't use it correctly!!!!
  22. Yes, she would be up in his business still, with Holly mentoring her so that would get her out of Cooperville, plus, I always find cops written on soaps to be cheesy and the lines pulled out of prime time ("Rusty, I have had it up to HERE with your renegade ways, from now on your going by the book..") and the sets so...depressing. Maybe when they brought her back she could have had a change of career....maybe she got shot in the line of duty and had post traumatic stress and that is why she and Mallet broke up. Or maybe for once a cop/lawyer whomever on a soap bent the rules and had real repercussions and she had her badge pulled...(maybe she got a little rough with a wife/child abuser and that would also give her and Beth's rivalry some nuance instead of just chasing after d*ck.) I just saw a post on FB on Rachel Miner...Does anyone know if it was JFP or Malone who fired her on GL?
  23. So when Jeffery was calling Harley "Terrier" it was a call back to JFP history! I think Harley would have been better as a reporter..it might have fit Ehler's sometimes exhausting persona a bit more.
  24. Hmmm, good point! I kind of liked Margo as a cop in the early days Colin/HBS days when Margo was strong willed, determined, and put her foot in her mouth constantly butting into things. But Harley agree, should never have been a cop but at least she was more realistic then her stupid brother being Chief of Police (wow, the other candidates must have been in comas...) GL during the JPF days and until Rauch had a good run of having a latter of "blue collar" life that cops typically represent on soaps. You had the Coopers running a diner and being cops, the Reardon's, running Company, the Boardinghouse and Matt being in construction, the Bauers and the Marlers representing upper middle class and the Spauldings, Chamberlains and Lewis representing the rich (and is the case of the Lewis, as BevAlex said derisively "nouveau riche") That all went away with Rauch, where even Matt was running around in a suit jacket and tie.
  25. Ahhh..that brings back memories..dimbulb Roxie on that riding the electric bull!! LOL!
