BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread
original release date: Friday, January 30, 2026 | writers: Sara A. Bibel, Cheryl L. Davis | director: Steven Williford Thoughts: That is right, Evan. Assert yourself with your man. And show that bitch you are not one to be messed with. Madison is taking a leave of absence? For the remainder of 2026? That is interesting timing if I do say so myself. First Orphey Gene's and now the country club. Damn. Must be nice to have the fund and the power to pull these kind of moves off. I would be forgiving Vernon immediately if I were Anita, and judging by the look of lust in her eyes, I think she has. Hayley does brag a lot, and yet, her actions suggest she is not as smart as she believes herself to be. Nicole is feeling herself and I love this for her. How excellent and sexy. We love an attentive husband who listens to their spouse and buys them the jewelry they wanted. We love to see it. Well, it looks like Hayley's plan to superdrug Bill is about to meet its backfire, and I cannot wait. Oh no... not Anita's hair falling out. I know that is such a shock. Aw. Notes: Love that we started January off with Davis and Williford, and they are two of the ones to end the month. Coincidental, I am sure. Clifton Davis (Vernon) and Tamara Tunie (Anita) seem to be having a genuine blast filming their scenes at the country club. And I love these kinds of free-spirited, natural moments, and that they are not reserved for what viewers would see as the "younger" cast. The use of music in today's episode is outstanding. And it's nice that it is not generic sex music. It is upbeat and funky fun! I have said it before and I will continue to say it: the sex scenes on Beyond the Gates are absolutely outstanding! From the lighting to the choreography, it all works so well! Daphnรฉe Duplaix (Nicole) and Robert Christopher Riley (Carlton) have such strong chemistry together.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
I loved her on All My Children and it is a damn shame what they did to Reese. And now, they're doing it at The Young and the Restless with their one lesbian pair.
-
ALL: Characters that fizzled
They clearly said, "We have Ricky Paull; let's take Beth, too!" Hilariously, she had such vile things to say about JR, and look who stuck with it until the end. She truly did ruin her career.
-
ALL: Characters that fizzled
All My Children Beth Ehlers as Taylor Thompson (2008โ2009) This character just did not pick up the steam; I believe that Julie Hanan Carruthers and James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten just did not do fair justice to the role, although, with the switch from Harmon Brown and Esensten to Charles Pratt, Jnr likely played a part in the shifting of the character; Taylor just did not click or properly integrate into the Pine Valley canvas. Perhaps her feelings towards JR Martinez (Brot) did not fare well with TPTB and audiences, but this casting/character was a combined dud. The Bold and the Beautiful Dax Griffin as Shane McGrath (2006โ2007) My only assumption is that Bradley Bell felt he could recreate the spark he got when he hired Adrienne Frantz (ex-Amber) and Sarah Buxton (ex-Morgan) from Sunset Beach, but Griffin, both in terms of his talent and character, fizzled and never caught on. Courtney Grosbeck as Coco Spectra (2017โ2018) Ill-conceived and poorly cast, and yet this character fell into the same known Bell trope of using the character, getting bored, and tossing it to the wayside to never speak of them again. Days of Our Lives Genie Francis and Judith Baldwin as Diana Colville (1987โ1989, 2019, 2024) Casting a heavyweight like Francis should have been a golden landmine; however, she kept having to turn absolute dogshรฏt into gold. Per Francis' own words, there was never a character in Diana (and I would agree), so when "the writer" returned the role in 2019 with Baldwin, it was even more apparent how the lack of character Diana had been. Hunter Tylo as Marina Toscano (1989โ1990) Visually, Tylo should have worked on Days of Our Lives, but the lack of character for Marina, combined with the one-lane story direction they attempted with the character, just did not work out in the long run. Schuyler Yancey and Nathan Owens as Cameron Davis (2010โ2013) Yancey was poorly cast, as was Owens (and yet, I am surprised at how decent Owens is doing at Y&R), and the character of Cameron ultimately lasted three years longer than it should have. On top of that, a failed romance with Abigail (then Kate Mansi) just did not do the character any kind of favours. Vincent Irizarry as Deimos Kiriakis (2016โ2017, 2021) On paper, casting Irizarry as a Kiriakis works, but making it a retconned role that was never known prior just did not work out in the long run. It was a casting choice that went awry and was ultimately wasted. He had chemistry with everyone he worked with, but paired with unfortunate writing (Josh Griffith and Dena Higley), this role was never going to work beyond the run it had. Marie Wilson as Summer Townsend (2016, 2020) Do I need to explain this one? From the casting choice to the storyline, this character was never going to amount to anything. At all. Even Wilson's previous like (Bree Tjaden) was a dud. It was like trying to watch TPTB at Days of Our Lives trying to make "fetch" happen. Paige Searcy and Gabrielle Haugh as Jade Michaels (2016โ2017) Another character introduced that just did not work. And in the case of a recast, it made the role even worse. The Young and the Restless Vincent Irizarry as David Chow (2007โ2008) Again, casting Irizarry was brilliant, but the role of David Chow was simply one that was unforgiving. A plot-driven character is never going to win over your audiences, and this character was one of those. It is unfortunate, as his chemistry with Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki was quite delicious, but the characters themselves did not work well together. Laur Allen as Juliet Helton (2017) This role was a poorly developed concept as a way of trying to drive a wedge between the insufferable Cane (then Daniel Goddard) and Lily (Christel Khalil), and all that came of it was a child we never see. Hopefully it remains that way.

ALL: Characters that fizzled
The chemistry between Sarah Joy Brown and Eric Martsolf was immediate. They worked exceptionally well together, but between the introduction of Ian Buchanan and the unfortunate writing change from Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jnr (a strong writing team that did well to just retool the canvas after years of abuse by Dena Higley) to Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell, it was beyond unfortunate that Brown's Madison fell victim to the regime change.

original release date: Thursday, January 29, 2026 | writers: Jamey Giddens, Danielle Paige | director: Anthony Pascarelli Thoughts: Zucchini fries? No thanks. Dana, that sounds beyond nasty. Derek, where the Hell do you get off acting in such a pestilent way? It is unbecoming and off-putting, but good on Grayson for standing his ground (and I see you, Ashley, eye-fรผcking Grayson when he does so). Derek has to return? Oh, that is too good to be true. ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ Katherine, calm your ass down. You are doing too much (per usual). A massage? Oh. Sign me up! I could use me one of those. For a woman who wants her husband dead, Hayley is surely trying to get Bill in the sack as much as humanly possible. Yes, Dana, you are an old rock. One that should be tossed into the ocean and sink to the bottom. Good on Eva for not falling for her mother's tricks. She is learning to have her own voice and mind. We love seeing growth like that. As much as Bill wants to be re-included in the Dupree circle, Vernon is going to make damn sure he never will because of how hurt he is over Bill breaking Dani's heart. That is a father right there. Not Katherine's mouth getting her in trouble, AGAIN, at Uptown. She cannot keep her mouth shut. Dani's pettiness about Hayley towards Lynette was hilarious. Calling her AI and referring to her as broken? Hilarious. She is quick with her tongue. So quick. Brilliant. Eva, go get her. Claw her eyes out. Get rid of her! It is time! Notes: writer2 needs to go; his breakdowns are atrocious and bring down the quality of the writing team. He is the weak link. The continued improved lighting and use of light throughout multiple sets is stunning. The Washington Record seems to be the first fictional publication we have seen. Makes me wonder if the 2026 clearance they had is lessening? We keep hearing the name Lauren Fenmore, and it just makes me wish Tracey Bregman would show up! The continued shift they have done with Ben Gavin's Derek is insane to me. But it works.

Crew did exceptionally well with the subpar material he was given today. Exceptionally. He deserves to work for someone better. Truly. But, I am sorry, how long does it take to check on a sleeping child? Is he locked away in a multi-lock tower? And is Ivy going to stay outside of the beach house exclaiming, "It's not proper at all," in her random American accent?

original release date: Wednesday, January 28, 2026 | writers: Michael Montgomery, Judy Tate | director: Michael V. Pomarico Thoughts: Dana continues to be delusional about Ted, despite her own intimate relations with Marcel. I love seeing Carlton and Shanice comparing notes about their respective date nights. Hilarious. "Don't be rude." But Nicole, it is what the spoilt, self-centred bitch you said does best: be RUDE. Good on Nicole for standing her ground against her daughter. She should not be sex-shamed for being a free woman. I like seeing Martin finally supporting Bradley's return to the job. It is so refreshing. I love how Anita gets the work on the 'shouse' to stop with a food basket. Hilarious. That is how a queen does queen shรฏt. And putting that grandchild of hers in line. It is about time someone does. Not Ted using the same technique on every woman he has been with. It is a cute sentiment, but you have got to switch it up. Change the flower. Change the type of gift. Oop... not June calling it out. "Maybe the problem is you." And I cackled, howled, and died from the read of the century. Well, Dana continues to dig her own grave deeper and deeper. This is not a good look. Ted will not come back to you. At all. Notes: The continued improved lighting and use of light throughout multiple sets is stunning. I appreciate how much hovering Vernon does. It is realistic. Truly realistic; I have been there and I have done that. It is relatable.- GH: January 2026 Discussion Thread
