  1. I realize all those details don't matter. Just posting what the 1996 recappers and commenters said, to be used as comparison later - because I want to see what the 2020 rebroadcast cuts from the original.
  2. Another recap of the same episode. This one is much more detailed. BACKSTORY: As previously mentioned, Paul had been informally trying to mediate between Olivia and Nathan. Olivia became more and more distraught. She began to lean on Paul for help. MORE INFO: Around a month prior to the Christine/Paul wedding, Nathan took little Nate without permission from Olivia (kidnapped?). From this recap we learn that Nathan and Nate are hanging out in St. Louis. A comment dated 8/8/96 on another thread referred to the Olivia/Nate phonecall in the 8/7/96 episode. When Olivia asked Nate where he was, he refused to tell her, so she looked at the caller ID and said "still in St. Louis"? https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/LZ9ew4k0j44/JC1tMryVYfIJ In the following recap, the recapper was calling Christine "BUG" (which is fine, of course). But to make this recap feel "neutral", I changed it to Christine. I removed the recapper's personal opinions. There was some snark, which is fun, but I removed it for clarity. You can read the original recap with all its snarky commentary here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/0PHhuC6wPdc/CQIEdoY8DOgJ Other the adjustments I noted, here is a quote of the original recap. The recapper posted both "Cliff notes" and "extended details", as below. The formatting and Act/Scene notations are just as the original recapper typed it. rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs (Posted 8/16/96) Y&R: Update, Wed 8/7/1996, WEDDING DAY CLIFF NOTES: Christine and Paul married in a simple ceremony. Guests included Victor, Nikki, Nick, Sharon, Victoria, Ryan, Nina, Katherine, Neil, and Malcolm. Paul and Christine made long boring speeches of love to each other at the altar. The reception was interrupted by a phone call from a hysterical (as usual) Olivia, who had spoken to Nathan on the phone. She begged Paul to come and help her, and Paul agreed to delay the honeymoon until the SWN ("Situation With Nathan") was resolved. Christine was proud of the extra shine on hubby's halo after this, and told Paul she wanted to go to Colorado to take care of something for Newman Enterprises. Phyllis came over to Danny's unannounced with Little Daniel in tow; and she and Gina exchanged catty remarks. EXTENDED DETAILS: PROLOGUE: Episode opens with tender piano music, and Christine in a long white négligée looking in the mirror wistfully. Nina enters. She says that Christine is the most beautiful brides she's ever seen. Christine's nervous. Nina assures her that this time the wedding is going to happen. She will miss having Christine next door. Cue sobs and sappy best friend talk. Gina arrives at Danny's apartment to hold Danny's hand because its Christine's wedding day. Danny insists that he's fine. He was invited, but in an uncharacteristically mature decision, stayed home. Nick and Sharon are waiting for Nikki to finish grooming herself. They reminisce about their wedding. ROLL CREDITS ACT I, SCENE I Mary is looking at one of Paul's baby pictures. He descends the stairs carrying his suitcase. (He must have spent the night, its bad luck to see a Christine before the wedding. :-) Sweet Mother/Son talk ensues. ACT I, SCENE II Flashback to Christine asking Victor to give her away, while Victor puts on his tux. ACT I, SCENE III Malcolm comes over to visit Olivia. He brought groceries, and his tux, he's going to change over here. He tries to talk her into coming to the wedding, but she refuses. Olivia says she just got off the phone with Dru, who is sick and decided to skip the wedding. Neil arrives to pick up Malcolm. COMMERCIAL ACT II, SCENE I Sharon begins to lecture Nick about marriage, it means staying together, working problems out, blah, blah, blah. Nick closes down this line of conversation and sends Sharon to get dressed. ACT II, SCENE II Olivia is fixing Neil's tie, which makes her think of Nathan. Cue "What if I never see my son again?" speech. Malcolm and Neil reassure her. ACT II, SCENE III (St. Louis Arch appears on screen). In St. Louis, little Nate shows Nathan a picture he drew of Mommy. He wishes he could see her. Nathan says that he can see that Nate can see her in his mind. (I'm sure that made sense to a four year old.) Little Nate begs to go see Mommy, whining again. (He is his mother's son.) COMMERCIAL ACT III, SCENE I Victoria enters and says hi to Nick. She's wearing a black gown with lace neckline. Nick tells Victoria about the necklace he gave Sharon. He leaves to go put on his tux. Victoria says that Cole is out of town on business. Nikki enters in a stunning blue suit. Once again, Nikki's boobs are defying the laws of physics by not falling out of her top. Victoria leaves to hurry up Nick and Sharon. ACT III, SCENE II Christine is on the phone with someone named Bob from Newman Enterprises. He's begging her to come in, some deal is about to fall through. Christine refuses and hangs up on him. Nina enters. It's showtime. COMMERCIAL ACT IV, SCENE I Everyone is arriving at the chapel. It is filled with lots and lots of flowers. Paul greets the Newmans. Victor and Nikki share a private moment, Nikki can't resist a dig about it being hard for Victor to give Christine away. ACT IV, SCENE II Nathan calls Olivia. Nathan wants to come home, but says Olivia will never again try to keep him away from his son. Nathan says not to involve the family or police. Conversation degenerates, and Nathan hangs up on Olivia. (Cue hysterical Olivia saying "Damn you, Nathan!" repeated about twenty times.) ACT IV, SCENE III Wedding begins with Nina in a simple white gown with low cut neckline. She's followed by Christine and Victor. Christine's gown is blue, with floral top and hoopskirt. (She really does look like something out of Gone With the Wind. Think the famous curtain dress :-) For those who care, the minister does *not* go through the formality of asking "Who gives this woman...") COMMERCIAL ACT V, SCENE I Minister begins ceremony. Minister cues Paul to make his speech. Paul talks about the road they've traveled, promises to love her through bad and good times, etc. etc. He gets teary-eyed, so does Christine. When Paul finishes, the minister turns to Christine and asks if she has anything to say. Christine proceeds to go off for another five minutes about how the future holds both joy and sorrow, that they will love each other, and hopefully through their love make this world a better place. ACT V, SCENE II Phyllis knocks at Danny's door. She brought little Daniel with her. Gina and Phyllis exchange less than warm greetings. ACT V, SCENE III The minister pronounces Paul and Christine married. He tells Paul he may kiss the bride. Kiss and applause. Paul and Christine walk down the aisle in slow-motion. COMMERCIAL ACT VI, SCENE I Christine and Paul cut the cake. Ryan makes a toast and says they radiate love. Victor makes a toast, upstaging Ryan once again. Paul and Christine dance to "You Are So Beautiful to Me." ACT VI, SCENE II Danny takes the baby upstairs. Gina lays into Phyllis and says this is the tackiest thing Phyllis has ever done. Gina blames Phyllis for Danny and Christine's breakup, etc., etc., etc. Phyllis tells her to butt out. Gina tells her to leave. Phyllis ensconces herself on the couch. ACT VI, SCENE III Neil cuts in on Paul, for a dance with Christine. A waiter tells Paul he has a call. Paul goes to the phone. It's Olivia, she apologizes for bothering him, but tells him about Nathan's call. She says she doesn't trust herself to deal with him. She begs him to help her deal with the "Situation With Nathan". Paul agrees to come over. COMMERCIAL ACT VII, SCENE I Danny comes down and asks where Gina is. Phyllis tells him she left, and insists that she didn't provoke her. Phyllis says she knows today is difficult for him. She admits it's her fault that he and Christine broke up. "Do you believe me when I say I'm sorry?" asks Phyllis. "Do you believe me when I say I don't give a damn?," asks Danny. Phyllis insists she brought the baby to cheer Danny up. Danny lashes out at her it's all Phyllis' fault. Phyllis leaves in tears. ACT VII, SCENE II The men are delivering an off-key chorus of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Christine receives blessings from a loud elderly couple.* Paul tells Christine, who agrees that he should help Olivia. Christine says she'll go to Colorado to help with the Newman Enterprises problem. They agree to just let the guests think they're going on their honeymoon, and make their excuses and exit. THE END! *[From a spoiler for this epi, the loud elderly couple are Miles and Margaret Dugan, to whom Christine once gave legal advice regarding Rainbow Gardens housing. (played by Parley Baer & Maxine Stuart)] [A comment from another thread: Nikki mentioned regarding Victor's giving Christine away: "I never realized she was his to give away."] https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/DO678AkKR9g/4aLgyJnsNMQJ [A comment from another thread regarding the wedding reception: When Nikki and Victor were at Christine and Paul's wedding dancing, Victor leaned in to kiss Nikki. She just pulled away and said I had better leave. Then she noticed the kids had gone and left them. Nikki wouldn't let him kiss her.] https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/phUAi55U32U/znp-0DAfzZkJ [From another comment: At some point after the wedding, perhaps during the reception, Nikki and Victor discussed that time has passed as they reminisce, and then they state now that their children are grown and they shouldn't meddle in their lives anymore.] https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/otiL5XJm7Lc/5t5y9I1GHBAJ [From a thread discussing the attire: Did you notice that ALL the men had on tuxedos? I thought that was a little much for a small wedding in a "country wedding chapel".] https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/_GAJasyHnBc/n3JYYec11QwJ Not just the wedding party men wearing tuxes. All the male guests wore tuxes, too. That fits with the recap saying Malcolm was putting on his tuxedo. There is a photo of the wedding reception that shows Mitchell Sherman as one of the guests, wearing a tuxedo. Mary Williams is in the same photo, wearing a yellow floor-length gown or outfit.
  3. Info released by the show: Monday June 29 US (Friday June 26 CDN) Original US airdate September 21, 1994. Sharon Collins sets her sights on Nick. I wonder if "Sharon sets her sights on Nick" relates to the party? Sharon's 18th birthday party (which was secretly her 19th birthday) ... would have been celebrated on one of these three days (or maybe a combo of the days): Friday 9/16/1994, Wed 9/21/1994, or Thurs 9/22/1994. We know that on 9/15/1994, Sharon planned to have the party at the apartment she shares with her mother. But on Mon 9/26/1994, Sharon is talking about the party with her mother, and it had already happened, and it was at the Newman ranch.
  4. Monday June 29: Paul pulls out all the stops to propose to Christine. Sharon Collins sets her sights on Nick. Victor makes a sacrifice to protect Newman Enterprises. Originally aired on September 21, 1994. I wonder what the Victor spoiler is about? (I don't really care about Victor or N.E. Just curious about the episode)
  5. Here are the descriptions that were released: Monday June 29: Paul pulls out all the stops to propose to Christine. Sharon Collins sets her sights on Nick. Drucilla shares surprising news. Nikki worries about Nick’s interest in Sharon. Originally aired on December 14, 1994. Wednesday July 1: Christine and Paul’s wedding day takes a shocking turn. Olivia plays matchmaker for Malcolm and Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox). Danny confides in Katherine. Originally aired on December 29, 1994. Thursday July 2: Christine and Paul walk down the aisle. 6. Luan is in the bridal lingerie shower party episode. (unless they cut her scenes). Someone on the old newsgroup commented that the epi is nice because you get to see all the women together having fun. (instead of only Dru with Olivia, or only Cricket with Nina). The party has Cricket, Nina, Gina, Lauren, Luan, Olivia, Drucilla, and Lynne. It sounds like fun. And despite Christine and Paul being bland white bread, the shower sounds much better. However some of the dialog that was recapped was explaining American customs to Luan. (which is weird because Luan owns and manages a restaurant in town. I got the impression from recaps and other history that she'd been in the US for a while, but had only recently found Jack?). Well, I suppose they could cut that dialog or perhaps make it simply that she's a party guest and not explain how they know her. Luan is also in the Phyllis-runs-down-Christine-and-Paul episode. A whole chunk of the epi is about Jack planning to take Luan to the Virgin Islands for a week. He excitedly discusses this with Ashley, Ashley comments that Jack and Luan share a son, but Ash doesn't say his name. Luan is in scenes with her daughter Mai and Mai is trying to convince her mother to go and have a good time. Mari Jo has scenes complaining to Rick that she(Mari Jo) was engaged to Jack but now Jack has fallen for "that Vietnamese woman" -- and Mari Jo wanted to go skiing with Jack but instead Jack is going to the Virgin Islands with Luan. So there are several scenes talking *about* Luan. And the scenes between Luan and Mai. How would they cut all that out? Then again there is the problematic dialog: Jack says Luan has worked hard and has never taken a vacation in her life, and he is going to have Lauren pick out some Fenmore's resort clothing for Luan, and he's taking her to the island because she might need to relax for a week, (implying that she's the stereotypical all-work person). And then the conversation between Luan and her daughter Mai. Mai says she(Mai) has learned geography in school and describes the Virgin Islands to Luan, who knows nothing about them. (But again, I have to ask, a businesswoman living in America knows nothing of this?) I think they would have to keep Luan's scenes. But maybe edit out a couple of lines of dialog. Oh, and some of the epis over Sept.Oct.Nov.Dec 1994 have Keemo and Luan wanting to learn American culture. Or Genoa City residents explaining to them about certain American customs. to the point where I got impression from one of the rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs recappers that it was like a drinking game, you can bet the words "An American Custom" will be used in the episode. Christine talks to Keemo like he's a kindergartner, yet he speaks perfect unaccented American English. (Still don't know if Keemo is in the Sept 21, 1994 episode or not).
  7. Bryton had me in tears when I watched the clip posted above. Still crying. Haven't even watched the episode yet.

  9. Thank you! that's what I wanted to say but couldn't find the words for. There was definitely that layer in what Devon was saying.
  10. I read an old recap or summary mentioning Dru cutting up Carmen's clothes and I thought that was not really what Dru would have done. The show wrote Phyllis cutting up Sharon's clothes, too. But Phyllis is supposed to be crazy. Dru isn't. Carmen isn't a really a Karen, as you pointed out. But I was trying to say that Dru being upset at Carmen, and even cutting up the clothes, Dru getting physical with Carmen --- for those things Carmen wanted Dru imprisoned and the D.A said the best deal he could offer was two years in prison. Two years in prison is not appropriate. I haven't seen many of that year's episodes, but I've been reading the recaps for that year, and It seems like Carmen was written to be a manipulative character who "preys on married men" said one summary. I don't know. I haven't seen enough clips of her to get what she was really like. Was Carmen simply being a bad person and trying to get rid of the competition for Neil and didn't care if imprisoning Dru was unjust? Or was Carmen being a "Karen" in that the writers were using Carmen as someone who thought of Dru as ghetto/dangerous/unsafe and must be arrested? I can't tell from reading the recaps.
  11. Direct link to above fb video: https://www.facebook.com/TheYoungandtheRestless/videos/1392131277640398/ Youtube link to the same clip, but it might be geo-blocked outside the US: https://www.youtube.com/embed/FqEoQBAzomI The clip is from the 2006 epi that was rebroadcast today June 24. Bryton won the 2007 Emmy for it. Devon was talking about Drucilla but... As I watched today, it felt like a parallel to Victoria Rowell. She's not crazy. She just defends what's right. And even more, this clip feels to me like a parallel to everything that's going on on the world. Carmen Mesta is being a Karen getting Dru arrested for no reason. Carmen is afraid. Says Dru started it. etc. And Devon calls her out.
  12. Friday July 3, 2020: Episode #7696 Original US airdate Aug. 15, 2003. This episode immediately follows #7695 which was rebroadcast on 5/26/2020. recap (from 8/14/2003 CDN or 8/15/2003 US) http://tvmegasite.net/updates/yr/2003/yr-08-14-03.htm
  13. Recap for August 7, 1996 The episode of Christine and Paul's wedding FYI... Context to the Christine/Paul wedding reception, to understand why Paul leaves: Nathan Hastings, Sr. is/was Paul's partner at their private investigation firm. The married couple Nathan and Olivia are split. Nathan and Olivia have been in an ongoing contentious argument over little Nate. *The recaps and comments of the prior days/weeks indicate that Olivia had been very upset and crying a lot about this situation. Paul had been trying to help Nathan and Olivia come to some sort of truce. Olivia was continually relying on Paul for support, and crying to him. --- The main recap: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/oFhORE4GqqM/ZonhF0xuAtEJ Nicknames for anyone unfamiliar: "Liv" = Olivia. "Chris" = Christine. rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs › Y & R SPOILER Wed 8/7 (Posted day-ahead on 8/6/96) Today is *wedding day*! Most of the show is either scenes getting ready for the wedding, the wedding, the reception. Gina visits Danny to *help* him on this bad day. Phyllis and Daniel show up. Fur flies with Phyllis and Gina. Gina leaves. Danny yells at Phyllis. All of this is her fault anyway. Phyllis--would you believe me if I said I was sorry? Danny--would you believe me if I said I don't give a damn?! Nathan calls Liv. She answers the phone right away. He says the he and Nate will come home if there are no cops and she agrees to let Nate see Nathan on a regular basis. He will call back to see if she agrees. If she doesn't, she may never see Nate again. Liv calls Paul (at the reception of course) and asks him to come over, she needs him *now* because every time she hears Nathan's voice she goes crazy (her own words and the truth even!). Of course, being the wonderful person she is, Chris says Paul, no problem if you go. ----------- Supplemental info on another thread. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/-j8Nf6yaEyg/q34tysHF6m4J Here is the info, with personal opinions removed: Before the wedding, Christine is standing in front of a full length mirror, in a plain white bathrobe. Nina walks up behind her and says "I've never seen a more beautiful bride." And more info from yet another thread https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/Wje3xujLt4E/vFrIyS9YiYkJ Victor gives Christine away. ----------- Supplemental recap to same episode: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/oFhORE4GqqM/erSurZQHUu4J The other twist in today's story is that while Chris was getting dressed for the wedding, she checked her 'phone messages (yeah right!) and one of the lawyers for Newman Enterprises told her she was needed IMMEDIATELY because one of the deals she was working on was going sour and only she (of course) could get it back on track (pardon the mixed metaphor). She told him that it wasn't possible - she was busy getting married in 15 minutes. SO when Paul tells her about Liv and Nathan, Chris tells him about the legal problems; and they decide that being the responsible people they are, they should postpone the honeymoon and go off separately to save the world. It appears that Chris has to go to Denver to do whatever. But Paul and Chris decide they won't tell anyone what they're doing to avoid any speculation. -------------- info from spoilers: Wedding guests and wedding venue, and more: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/lko6V6FjjH8/giMcNzihJ7kJ posted 7/26/96 Spoiler: Miles and Margaret Dugan (Parley Baer & Maxine Stuart), remember Rainbow Gardens? return for Paul and Christine's wedding on August 7. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/nk0YFT-Xuig/fM9O-Ht9ZyEJ Posted 8/4/96 Red letter day: Wednesday August 7, Chris will happily marry Paul in a country chapel on Y&R. END ---
  14. Posting the twitter, instagram, and facebook versions of the same clip because it's awesome!
  15. Question about Vivica A. Fox's character Stephanie Simmons. In that Dec 94 vid, she is dressed like Olivia and appears to be a doctor. But when I google the character, it seems she was a nurse.
  16. Wed. July 1, 2020 US (Tues. June 30, 2020 CDN) #5520, December 29, 1994 A few minutes before Christine and Paul are about to marry each other, an unknown car runs them down. (Of course we know now this was Phyllis). ----- This is a new recap of watching an old 1994 video. Of course some of the scenes will be omitted in the 2020 rebroadcast, in order to allow for commercials. December 29, 1994 Before the wedding: At Lauren's office, Brad would like to know how Lauren feels about Paul and Christine's wedding, and Lauren replies that Paul is her friend and she just wants Paul to be happy. Brad invites Lauren to New Year's Eve later that week, and she accepts. Danny has decided to leave Genoa City and spend some time in New York for a while, because he feels that it would be too painful to be around Christine and Paul once they are newlyweds. Danny knows that Katherine is grieving Rex who died a few weeks earlier, so Danny invites Katherine to come to New York with him but she declines. Danny goes over to Phyllis' apartment to tell her he is leaving town, but Phyllis is not there. The nanny Joani gives little Daniel to Danny and she leaves. Danny waits for Phyllis, unaware of what Phyllis is up to. Paul and Christine are in Paul's office. They're going to get married tonight. They're very happy. They say goodbye to Lynne and leave. Alone, Lynne sheds a tear but says to herself that she knows Paul will be happy and that's what matters. Everyone except the bride and groom are at the wedding venue. Matron of honor is Nina, and bridesmaids are Lynne and Lauren. The three of them are in identical black dresses. Ryan is there as Nina's husband. Mary Williams is there. No bride and groom. Everyone waits, then makes phonecalls, but the bride and groom cannot be found. Meanwhile, outside Paul's office, a mysterious driver in a blue car speeds up and intentionally hits Christine and Paul. Y&R shows the license plate number but not Phyllis' face. The car speeds off, leaving Paul and Christine lying in the road. Drucilla/Neil/Malcolm/Olivia/Stephanie Drucilla and Neil argue about New Year's Eve. Neil tells Dru that (without consulting her first), Neil had invited people over for New Year's Eve. But Dru would prefer to be alone with Neil, so Neil agrees to cancel the party. Meanwhile, Malcolm is unaware that the New Year's Eve party will be cancelled, and Malcolm tells Olivia about the party. Malcolm asks Stephanie Simmons to come to Neil and Dru's New Year's Eve party as his date, but Stephanie feels she is too busy. Olivia tries to play matchmaker between Malcolm and Stephanie. (Stephanie Simmons is played by Vivica A. Fox) Luan/Jack/MariJo/Rick/Blade/Ashley Background: Ashley's husband Blade has a supposedly-dead twin Rick, who is secretly in Genoa City. Mari Jo Mason (aka Marilyn) knew both twins in the past and she recognizes Rick. Ashley and Blade don't know that Rick is alive. Jack had been engaged to Mari Jo Mason. However he recently reconnected with his longlost first love, local restaurateur Luan from Vietnam, and her children Keemo and Mai. Jack has invited Luan to spend a week with him in the Virgin Islands, which will happen soon. Mari Jo kept the engagement ring and still wants to marry Jack. This episode: Luan's daughter Mai tells Luan she is excited about her mother's coming island trip with Jack. Jack tells Ashley that he is buying an island resort wardrobe for Luan. Ashley mentions to Jack that it's romantic that Luan and Jack share a son. Mari Jo confides in Rick, Rick encourages Mari Jo to go after Jack, and Mari Jo decides to plot. (Luan and Mai appeared in this episode, but Keemo was not in this particular episode. Keemo had been appearing regularly for a few months. In the Dec 29, 1994 broadcast, Ashley referred to the fact that Jack and Luan have a son. but Ashley didn't say Keemo's name.). ----------------------------- --------------------------------------------- I found the ORIGINAL recap from 1994! December 29, 1994. Original recap from 1994. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/rj_sKsXx3Ts/j9qMW22OY70J (It took a while to find it because it was in the newly-created newsgroup "rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs" which had just split off from the old "rec.arts.tv.soaps".) This recap is the same as originally posted with these minor changes: I omitted the recapper's personal dislikes and and likes. I corrected the spelling of character names. Changed from Kathryn to Katherine. Changed from Mary Jo to Mari Jo. Changed from Joanie to Joani. Changed from Lynn to Lynne. Changed from Laun to Luan. (This is *not* a critique of the recapper. There was no google in 1994 to look up spelling, and some days the credits didn't air. The recapper did a great job.). rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs Y&R: Update for 12-29-94 (Posted 12/30/94) Update for the Young and the Restless Jabot Laboratory Ashley is busy mixing up some no doubt incredible potion that will be a number one best seller as hand cream, body lotion, perfume, or makeup as Jack walks in. Jack is excited about his upcoming trip to the Caribbean with Luan. He'll be gone for a whole week!!! Seven whole days of basking in the sun -- no phones -- no faxes. Jack is still amazed, apparently Ashley is too, that he and Luan found each other after 20 (count 'em, 20!!) years. Ashley wants to plug Luan and tries to bring up Mari Jo, but Jack doesn't want to hear it. Jack, instead, brings up Ashley's favorite subject, Blade. Ashley says that Blade is trying, but as far as she's concerned, no trust = no relationship. Nina and Ryan's Apartment Nina is all dressed up and ready for Cricket and Paul's wedding. She is wearing a black velvety short dress and Ryan is in what looks like a tuxedo shirt (pants too, I suppose but couldn't tell for sure). Ryan thinks that Cricket (and he called her Cricket, not Chris) will be upset because Nina looks soooooo good in her dress. Nina, by the way, is the Matron of Honor (don't know if we knew this or not). Ryan and Nina remember their wedding. Nina says she was nervous, but Ryan says he wasn't. He says, "I figure once you're at the altar you'd better have made up your mind." He wonders if Cricket is nervous. Nina says no. Lauren's Office Lauren is on the phone wondering about the whereabouts of some important documents. She has a wedding to go to soon so she wants them to messenger them to her home if she's not at the office. Brad enters with something that looks suspiciously like a Christmas present. Lauren wonders if it is an early New Year's present or an extremely late Christmas present. She gives Brad some trouble suggesting that she obviously wasn't on his priority Christmas list. She gives Brad trouble about how late the gift is. Brad tells her she doesn't have time to argue, she has somewhere to go. She says she's got a wedding to go to -- she's a bridesmaid. Brad wonders who is getting married. Lauren seems surprised that Brad doesn't know (like Paul would put Brad on the guest list!!). Lauren tells him its Paul Williams and Christine Blair (both first and last names so poor little Brad won't get confused). Brad wants to know how Lauren feels about the wedding. Vapid stare from Lauren. Paul's Office Cricket is finishing some documents for Paul. She tells him all he has to do is sign and have Lynn notarize it. Paul says it will be his last official act of the year -- Cricket says it will be his last official act as a single man. Something is said about shackles, ball and chain, no more singles bars, blind dates, reading the personals. Paul wonders what he'll do for fun. Cricket says he won't have trouble finding fun things to do -- she plans to distract him like he's never been distracted. They kiss. Lynn walks in and asks if they're ready for her, sees them kissing and says "Guess not." Roll Credits Neil and Drucilla's Apartment Neil and Drucilla are on the couch all cuddled up reminiscing about Christmas and how great it was. Neil says it was all because of Drucilla and the baby. Neil made her holiday too. They look forward to New Years. They discover they've both got plans in mind for New Year's Eve. Neil thinks their plans will be the same. Neil wants to have the "gang" i.e., Nathan, Olivia, Malcolm, over to celebrate. Drucilla had something else in mind -- she tells Neil that he was wrong when he thought she had the same plan in mind. Mari Jo's Office Rick, or is it Blade, interrupts Mari Jo daydreaming -- interrupts her with kisses on the neck, must be Rick. Mari Jo gets mad because Rick doesn't seem to understand yet that it is dangerous for him to come a callin'. She gets up to close her office door as Rick asks how she knew he wasn't Blade. You kissed me on the neck, moron (Blade would prefer to slit it, as we all know). Rick wants to know how she is. Well, she's lousy (remember she just found out about the little trip Jack is planning with Luan). She says all of her plans blew up in her face. Rick tells her to "pour your heart out to me baby" as he snuggles her from behind. Luan's Apartment Luan and Mai discuss Luan's upcoming trip. Mai tells her some about the Caribbean. Mai says she's seen pictures -- it's beautiful. Luan says "sounds very interesting" (although she doesn't sound very interested). "Interesting?" Mai is incredulous. She reminds Luan that this could be the trip of a lifetime. Mai is excited for Luan but wonders that Luan doesn't seem too excited. Luan says she is excited in her own way. Mai says the trip really sounds like a honeymoon to her. Vapid stare from Luan. Jabot Laboratory Jack wants to know what Ashley wants from Blade. Ashley wants Blade to tell her the truth. Jack decides he better stay out of it. Ashley turns the conversation back to Jack. She wants to know if he's all set for his trip. Jack is on his way to see Lauren Fenmore. He's asked her to help him put together a wardrobe for Luan for the trip. Ashley says Jack is sweet and Luan will love it. Jack talks about how Luan has been solidly focused on building a restaurant all these years. He thinks she's probably never been on a vacation. Jack prepares to leave. He's got a million things to do (guess he wasn't invited to the wedding either). Ashley wishes him a great trip. Jack says he is nervous and excited. Nina and Ryan's Apartment Ryan questions Nina about Cricket. They talk about how Cricket thought she and Danny were the perfect pair. Ryan reminds Nina that all that was Danny's fault. Nina says Cricket understands that but can't help wondering "as a woman" if she failed some way -- "as a woman." Nina tells Ryan to forget it, he wouldn't understand. Ryan asks if Nina knows where Paul and Cricket are going on their honeymoon. Nina doesn't know. Ryan talks about the honeymoon he promised Nina. She says it's okay that they haven't had their honeymoon. She has school, after all, and he is busy at work. Ryan says they should make time for a honeymoon. Nina agrees. Nina brings up their wedding again about how Ryan did the right thing because she was pregnant. Ryan admonishes her that there was more to it than that. Nina seeks more reassurance (anyone surprised?). Ryan says "it was the best thing that ever happened to me." Nina is delighted. Blah, blah, blah, they go on… kissing. Lauren's Office Lauren wonders why she should care that Paul is marrying Cricket. Brad reminds Lauren that she was married to Paul once. Lauren says she and Paul are close friends and the Cricket will make him very happy -- they're very compatible. Brad gives Lauren a look. Lauren insists she's thrilled for Paul. Brad thought Cricket and Danny would get back together. Lauren says Danny is looking elsewhere these days. Brad suggests Danny is looking Lauren's direction. Lauren says you never know and decides that Brad is jealous. Brad says that Lauren hears what she wants to hear and calls her "cupcake". Brad gets down to the real reason for his visit. He asks Lauren out for New Year's Eve. Lauren looks coy (I suppose). Brad asks if Lauren thinks he's been taking her for granted again. Brad also says that it's just an invitation, she doesn't have to accept, but she does. Seems her plans changed. She was supposed to be out of town. But now, she'll be with Brad. Lauren prepares to take off for the wedding (what happened to her meeting with Jack???). Brad tells Lauren to wish Paul well. Lauren thanks him for the late Christmas present. They kiss, Brad leaves. Neil and Drucilla's Apartment Neil asks what Drucilla wanted to do for New Year's Eve. Dru wanted to stay in with just Neil. Neil wants a party. He begs. Dru says it'll be the last chance for them to spend New Year's Eve alone (I guess, they've never heard of sending the kid off to Olivia and Nathan) -- what with the baby on the way. Neil admits to Dru that it would be fun, but, you see, he's already invited everyone. Dru is mad and she tells Neil that she doesn't like it that he planned it without consulting her. The Chancellor Mansion Danny has come to visit. Katherine hopes he's not worried about her. He says no, he just wanted to see how she was holding up. Danny is amazed that Katherine is doing so well. He tells Katherine that he came to tell her he's going to New York. Katherine wants to know why. He won't tell her. He asks her to come along. Katherine is stunned. Paul's Office Lynn gets Paul and Cricket's attention -- remember they are kissing. She is there to notarize the papers. Cricket asks Lynn if everything is ready. Lynn assures Cricket that everything is in place. Cricket says it looks like all she has to do is finish packing. "Finish packing!!!! You haven't finished packing?!?!?!?!" Paul exclaims. Lynn asks Cricket if she knows where they are honeymooning. Cricket doesn't know. Paul tells Cricket to sign the document. "This will be the second to last time I sign my name Christine Blair." Lynn looks upset. Outside the building where Paul's office is We see cars covered with a light dusting of snow -- except for the black, idling, DWL-5R8 license plate car. Zoom in on the exhaust pipe -- exhaust coming out. [note from 2020: License plate was actually DLW-5R8] Luan's Apartment Mai asks Luan if she doesn't agree that Jack intended this as a honeymoon. Luan says she doesn't think about such things. Mai insists and describes what they will do. It will be the most romantic time of Luan's life. Luan is pleased with the descriptions and Mai's enthusiasm. Luan says that it is best to wait to see what happens. Too much anticipation can lessen one's enjoyment of the event. Luan sends Mai back to work. Mai wants Luan to enjoy this. Luan is overwhelmed by the thought of the trip but promises Mai she will enjoy it. They hug. Mari Jo's Office Mari Jo admits to Rick that Jack is not under her control, that things have gone wrong. She reminds him of the ski trip she planned? She tells Rick the "Vietnamese Woman" is taking priority right now. How, Rick wonders. Mari Jo tells him of Jack and Luan's upcoming Christmas gift trip to the Caribbean. Rick is astounded -- "even though you're wearing his engagement ring?" and Mari Jo tells Rick that Jack doesn't want it back. Mari Jo is afraid that Jack is falling in love with Luan all over again. Mari Jo is depressed. She finally meets someone she really cares about. Rick wonders about where he fit in, back in her past. Mari Jo is serious. Jack is everything she admires -- smart, funny, kind, and he cares for her, or at least he did. Mari Jo insists that if it hadn't been for Luan, she and Jack would be married by now. She doesn't know what to do. She doesn't want to lose Jack. She doesn't want to be pushy, doesn't want to not push. What to do?? What to do?? Rick tells her to not quit. If she wants him bad enough, go for it. Mari Jo looks unconvinced. Neil and Drucilla's Apartment Neil tries to apologize. Dru says not good enough. She wants to know who he invited. Well, let's see, there's Malcolm, Olivia -- Dru still doesn't want a party. Neil says he'll call it off if that's what she wants. Dru is pleased. She makes Neil promise he won't be mad. They kiss. Olivia's Office Malcolm shows up. He's looking for Stephanie. Malcolm admits he's crazy about her, but she's a tough woman to deal with. Malcolm says Stephanie better be careful or someday his ship just might set sail. Malcolm wants to invite Stephanie to Neil's for New Year's Eve. Stephanie walks in. She is surprised to see him. He says he's been looking for her and invites her for New Year's Eve. She says no -- he makes it clear she'd be his date when she says she wasn't invited to Neil's. Olivia steps in and asks Malcolm to go get her some coffee. He goes. Olivia tries to help Malcolm's cause. Stephanie insists that medicine comes first with her, not dating. Olivia tells her to reconsider, but all Stephanie wants to do is get Olivia's opinion on a patient. Paul's Office Cricket signs, and reminds one and all that the next document she'll be signing is her marriage certificate. She prepares to leave. Lynn asks Cricket if she needs a lift. Paul says he'll take her (I want to know how she got there in the first place), he's got no last-minute details to see to. Paul thanks Lynn for all the extra work she's done in the last week. Lynn tells Paul good-bye, gets weepy-eyed and she and Paul hug. Paul and Cricket leave, Lynn cries. Mari Jo's Office Rick suggests Mari Jo is getting soft in her old age -- in the old days, she'd never have given up. Mari Jo agrees that she won't give up and thanks Rick for the pep talk. Mari Jo asks Rick, again, why he is in Genoa City. Rick won't tell and leaves wishing Mari Jo luck. They kiss. Olivia's Office Malcolm returns with coffee. Olivia is alone. Malcolm says he got the message -- he'll leave Stephanie alone. He goes on and on and on about not taking that crap -- he'll go find someone else. Olivia interrupts his tirade -- "You have a date." Malcolm, "Say, What?" Olivia got Stephanie to agree to go with Malcolm on New Year's Eve. The Chancellor Mansion Katherine can't imagine going to New York with Danny. Katherine won't go. Katherine wants to know if Danny is going back east for good. Danny doesn't know, he just wants to leave for a while. He'll keep in touch. Katherine asks another question -- are you running away -- what Rex would want to know. Danny says it's just too hard for him to be around, what with Cricket getting married and all. Going away will be good for him. Katherine comforts him and wishes him luck. They hug. Katherine is teary-eyed as they say good-bye. Danny leaves. Luan's Apartment Mai is sweeping the floor when Mari Jo shows up. Mari Jo asks about Christmas. Mari Jo asks for Luan. She wants to wish her a Happy New Year. Mai tells Mari Jo that Luan is in the restaurant. Mari Jo didn't see her. Mai goes to look in the kitchen. Mari Jo mutters she is very anxious to give her my best. Phyllis' Apartment (which looks like a makeover of Nina's old place) Joani (the nanny) is there and lets Danny in. Danny wants to see Phyllis. She isn't there and Joani doesn't know where she went or when she will be back. Danny decides to wait. Outside Paul's Office Cricket and Paul are walking on the sidewalk. They stop to hug and talk about the vows they are about to take. They kiss. Cricket is still trying to find out where they're going on their honeymoon. Paul won't tell. They stop to kiss again. They walk in the street instead of on the sidewalk. Zoom in on a bright red tail light!!! Ominous music begins. Paul realizes he left something in the office and gives Cricket the car keys (I still want to know how she got to the office in the first place). He tells her to get in the car and turn on the heater -- she's cold -- and he'll be right back. Cricket starts across the street. A car tire squeals. Paul looks. We see the car -- no headlights, just barely the top of someone's head is seen over the steering wheel. The lights come on. Cricket is blinded in white lights. Paul is yelling, "Chriiiiiiiiiiisssss!!!!" He runs to save her. He is ineptly unable to get Cricket out of the way and they are both hit and fall to the pavement on opposite sides of the speeding car. The car disappears and Cricket and Paul are lying on the pavement as passersby come up -- someone yells "Call 911." END
  17. I have watched only a few clips recently of Kurt and of the twins Blade/Rick - I hadn't seen those characters before, or if I did, I had forgotten them. I agree that they are uninteresting. I've watched a lot of old clips in the past two months that happened to contain Cole. Good lord I find Cole boring! I literally doze off watching him. The actor is fine looking, but the scenes I've watched have very little passion. What on earth did firecracker Victoria (Heather Tom's version) ever see in Cole?
  18. Mon July 29, 2020 is 9/21/1994. Still trying to figure out what happens in that episode. Paul proposed to Christine at the end of the 9/20/94 epi -- when Paul simply put an engagement ring on her finger and then said will you marry me. But she hadn't expected it, and she had not yet said yes or no when the epi ended. *Speculation* ... 9/21/94 is a continuation of the 9/20/94 proposal scene and now she says yes. I don't know what happens 9/22/94. On 9/23/94, Christine drops by Nina's to show her the engagement ring. On "rec.arts.tv.soaps" in 1994, someone was posting highlights of the "Pure Soap" show ("Pure Soap" appeared on the "E" network daily and it discussed the soaps). I compared the Y&R scenes described on Pure Soap, with actual recaps and playlists of Y&R. "Pure Soap" would tell what happened on Y&R the day before. Here is the relevant post: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps/cnnS-clmk3c/TYBG7ePDwdcJ rec.arts.tv.soaps PS: Thursday (Sept. 22) -- Pure Soap highlights Posted 9/23/94 PURE SOAP highlights for Thursday -- 22-SEP-1994 UPDATES: Y&R. Nina has never felt too comfortable around her husband Ryan's ex-wife. But now, courtesy of Victoria's centerfold, she knows more about her rival than she ever wanted to. [Insert clip of Nina and someone? (her mother (?)) talking about the centerfold. Nina says Victoria's the last person on earth she would've expected to appear in such a magazine.] -- ^ That 9/22/94 episode of Pure Soap described what happened on Y&R 9/21/94. So therefore these two things *probably* happen on 9/21/94: Christine accepts Paul's marriage proposal. Victoria had recently appeared as a nude centerfold in a magazine, and now Nina comments to someone that Nina would not have expected Victoria to do that.
  19. Big soapy reveals. Nov 25, 1991 is amazing. Paul arrives in the middle of Dina and John's wedding with info that Jill hired Paul to research, and Paul just found in Switzerland -- info that Dina has been lying. A lot happens and you don't need prior epis to understand. Dina has been WAY over the top lying. She was not in a secluded Swiss sanitarium for two years recovering from tuberculosis. She was partying all over Europe with rich playboys and came back to Genoa City for John because she ran out of money. I watched recently and it's an awesome epi. Edit to add: It concludes the investigation begun in the classic epi being rebroadcast June 25, 2020. And it concludes the whole arc Oct-Nov 91 arc of Masquerade Ball, Traci worrying about miscarrying, Traci getting married, and the one airing this week. Reveals like that. What soaps are great at. Danny revealing that he had secret other simultaneous paternity test done and he now knows Phyllis has been lying for three years (that one sounds good on paper but I haven't seen it in decades so I don't remember how it looks). It follows up on the epi of Olivia/Malcolm wedding where Phyllis was doing something with Brian (they edited it out of the rebroadcast that she was trying to fix the paternity test).
  20. My typo. It should say: US Tuesday June 30, 2020 (CDN Mon June 29, 2020)
  21. from Global: US Tuesday June 30, 2020 (CDN Mon June 29, 2020) #5509, original US airdate Wed Dec 14, 1994. I found a recap! finally! NOTE: The reason "An American Custom" is capitalized by the recapper is because the recapper was referring to the fact in the recent episodes' dialog, characters *frequently* mention that Luan and Keemo are learning American customs. They were saying it in Sept 1994 episodes, and here it is December 1994 and it's still written in the dialog. Here is the recap as written. I fixed the spelling of "Luan" which the recapper could not have googled in 1994. (I omitted the recapper's personal dislikes/likes). rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs https://groups.google.com/d/msg/rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs/AaYGePRwoE0/TfYhfoPHmtQJ Y&R Wednesday 12/14 Update (fwd) Posted 12/19/94 Here's what happened on Wednesday. It was great! Abbott Home Jill and John Silva are discussing the Jabot Spa offer. While John thinks it's too good to be true, Jill maintains that it's John's way of admitting arterial defeat, with the added bonus of getting her out of his hair. They leave the house, but John S. has to file some documents at the courthouse before he can meet Jill. He warns her not to sign on the dotted line until he sees the contract. Jahhhbot John Abbot and Jack are very pleased with their soon-to-be-coup. John didn't think it would be so easy, but Jack reminds him that they are appealing to Jill's most primal urges: status, glamour and money. Ranch Nikki is needling Victor about his paying for Sharon's Mom's surgery. She is adamant that Victor keep this a secret from Nicholas for fear that he would interpret Victor's deed as a stamp of approval. Victor notes that he was quite impressed with Sharon (which earns him a "Men!" from Nikki). Nikki remarks that sometimes smart men can be so dumb. Hospital Room Sharon is packing up her Mom's stuff, remarking that it is good to be going home. Doris agrees, adding that she could have kissed the doctor when he told her she was released. Sharon teases her mother, suggesting that the doctor might be single. They continue to exchange smiles and pleasantries (no kidding, I mean really!) [Roll Theme] Cricket's Pad Cricket is digging in her purse. Knock at the door - while Christine thinks it might be Lynne, unfortunately it's Paul. Cricket reminds Paul that he's not welcome at her bridal shower, and he offers to hide in the closet (didn't know he had it in him!) She asks whether his Mother is coming. He doesn't think so. Jahhhhbot Jack and John are hopeful. They believe they're the best influence on Billy. Jill arrives. They quickly get serious. She's anxious to sign, and is beaming. Ranch Victor reminds Nikki of her roots -- she was once very much like Sharon, quite interested in wealth. Nikki balks at this. They agree not to agree, and Victor goes to leave. Nikki calls him back, and invites Victor and Hope to a special family Christmas Dinner. Victor grumbles and softens. He would really like to be there. Cricket's Apartment Nina, Olivia, Gina and Lynne arrive with the decorations. Christine is gone to work. They've got decorations, food, gifts, etc.. The girls giggle at the fact that Cricket thinks it's only going to be a lingerie party. They hope that Mary Williams isn't coming, 'cause this is gonna be a triple-X party. They set about decorating. Jahhhhhbot Jill explains that John Silva is on his way. John and Jack explain the terms of the contract. Jill is taking the bait. She asks if she can look the contract over. Poker faces watch her read. Cricket's Drucilla, Lauren and Luan arrive. The place is all decorated with balloons (purple, green, yellow, pink, red). Luan hasn't ever been to a lingerie shower. They explain that it's (you guessed it) An American Custom. Lauren asks whether Mary is expected. They all say no, and a general sigh of relief is expressed all around. Ranch Victor asks whether Victoria and Nick would like anything special for Christmas. Nikki brings up the Collins thing again. She compliments Victor on his compassion, but pleads with him not to tell Nick. Sharon's Home The place has all been decorated. Doris thanks her for preparing the place for her arrival. Sharon remarks that some good came out of all the bad things that have happened, since Doris got the surgery she needed. Sharon vows to repay Victor somehow, someway. Doris remarks that it was very nice of Nick to bring flowers, and Sharon agrees that he's really a nice guy. Tacky Room Victor goes to the door, and it's opened by Nicholas. Victor wants to talk to him. Jahhhhbot Jack and John A. point out that the offer represents a substantial salary increase over her present one, and there are ample opportunities for her housing. Her responsibilities will be enormous, and if this is successful, they will open more spas in the vacation hot spots and Europe. Jill is thrilled. Jack produces a pen. Party Central Cricket arrives. Gina brings snacks, Luan pops the cork on a bottle of champagne. Drucilla refuses champagne, and everyone asks if she's pregnant. Dru finally admits that she's "got one in the oven". They make a toast. Nina: "To my best friend in the whole wide world, who will soon have the best underwear." The all laugh and drink to that. The camera turns to the hallway outside the door. A headless body emerges from the elevator, holding a large, pink-wrapped box. Sheeee's Heeeerrrre! Tacky Room Victor stopped by to see how things were going for Nick. He asks about school, social life. Victor asks about Amy. Nick tells him he likes Amy a lot, but it's Sharon Collins he'd prefer to be with. (commercial) They sit down. Victor tells Nick that every man at some time in his life experiences rejection. Victor encourages Nick not to give up. Nick tells him it's of no use, and relates the hospital scene, where Sharon gives him a cold shoulder. Bridal Shower Cricket is holding a blue satin bra and panties thing up to herself, with a devilish grin. It's from Gina. Mary rings the doorbell. Nina is unpleasantly surprised and allows Mary to enter. Meanwhile, Cricket is unwrapping a red lace bra. The girls ask her whether she's going to model it, but Cricket says she'll save it for Paul. Mary overhears this and screws up her face and lips. Jahhhhbot Jill takes another read. The pressure's on, but Jill wants to wait. She thanks them for the wonderful opportunity and their faith in her. She looks at her watch. She sees that the contract is very clear, and doesn't see anything that John Silva would question. She signs. John signs, Jill beams and takes her copy. She thanks them and leaves. Outside the office door, Jill smiles and struts away. Back inside the office, John and Jack high-five. Shower Gina is making Cricket's hat (out of the ribbons - glad to see someone else gets an ugly hat!). Meanwhile, back at the doorway, Nina is asking Mary if she's sure she wants to be there. Mary asks whether she's making them feel uncomfortable, and Nina tells her that her concern is just the opposite. Meanwhile, Cricket opens Luan's gift. It's a purple see-through lace teddy thing with a skirt bottom. She loves it, and (you guessed it) compliments Luan on catching on to American Customs so easily. She loves the purple thing so much that she leaps up from the couch and swings around to show everyone. As she looks through the lacy underthing, she spies Mary's sourpuss and mutters "oh-oh". Nina announces Mary's arrival. On cue, Mary hugs Lynne, and introduces herself. Many uncomfortable looks all around and Nina suggests that Cricket open Mary's gift next. Great idea. Nina whispers to Lynne that it's probably a chastity belt (LOL). And..... Guess What! It's a toaster! Mrs. Williams points out that it heats up in less than 30 seconds (collective "Oh!" from the group, and many smiles). Mary apologizes for being late and encourages Chris to continue unwrapping. Mary asks whether Lauren is there. Nina looks nervously up the stairs and all eyes turn to see Lauren modelling a hot white peignoir set with garters and stockings. She announces her arrival by describing how perfect it will be to keep Cricket comfy 'til she's between the sheets with Paul. Lauren removes her robe as she descends the stairs, to reveal a short nightie. When she reaches the bottom of the stairs, she removes the nightie to reveal a white teddy, just in time to notice Mary. She whips the nightie back on and runs back up the stairs! Gina flies in with a tray of desserts, but Mary's seen enough. Cricket begs her to stay for tea and dessert. In the background, Dru and Nina giggle at their gifts, which they didn't let Cricket open in Mary's presence. Dru's is a black leather bra with matching garter, and Nina's is edible panties -- in seven different flavours. They go into fits of laughter at the thought of Mary's face when Cricket would have opened the gifts. Tacky Room Nick is discouraged, but Victor isn't so sure he should be. Victor decides not to tell Nick about paying for the surgery right yet. Ranch Nikki dials the phone. Amy answers the other end. Nikki invites Amy over for Christmas Dinner or to visit sometime during the day. Amy thinks her for the invite and beams. She'll check with her Mom. Tacky Room Nick thanks Victor for being interested. They bond a little more. Nick leaves. Cricket's Place She's alone, when Paul comes a-knockin'. He says he's the panty police. Cricket asks if she's under arrest. They smooch. He wants a complete report. Cricket says there's not much to report: it was your typical lingerie ORgy (she likes the word a lot and gives it special emphasis). She adds that unfortunately the naked men didn't show up. Paul offers to oblige. He asks if he can see any of the goodies, but Cricket won't let him until they're married. He asks whether his Mom showed up, and Cricket tells him that they are the proud new owners of a toaster: but not just any toaster - it's a four-slicer, that heats up in under 30 seconds! Paul says he's got that beat by 20 seconds! Jahhhhbot John thanks Jack profusely. John Silva calls from the stock Y&R phone booth. He's been involved in a minor traffic accident, and he will be delayed. John Abbott tells him not to hurry: the deed's done. John Silva is really p-ssed off. John and Jack are really pleased with themselves. Collins' Doorbell rings and Sharon opens the door to find a vase of flowers in the hallway by their door. The flowers are from Nicholas. Doris remarks that Nick is a thoughtful boy, and that it was a lovely thing to do. Sharon holds the card to her heart and smiles. Nicholas watches from outside the window, with a smile that could light up all of Genoa City. The end.
  22. Yeah Dorothy McGuire was awesome. I just looked her up. wow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_McGuire
  23. I know right? This aired 36 years ago, but still I'm yelling at the TV "Call 911" Why was there no PSA for suicide phone hotlines and online crisis support chatrooms? Even if the original airing didn't have one, why didn't CBS add one in? Traci talking about all the very real feelings of worthlessness that people can experience -- they should have put a PSA for a crisis hotline. Not everyone has a person available to rescue them with an insta-marriage. It was especially jarring to see 2020 Beth Maitland cheerily closing the show saying how nice it was to air the old epi, or something like that. It would have been perfect for her to do a PSA there. Tim Sullivan talking with Stephanie Williams' character Amy Lewis, he said Amy was Traci's best friend. I didn't know that.

  25. The 9/19/1994 recap is here: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/57902-yr-to-air-classic-episodes/page/145/?tab=comments#comment-1675424 and that recap doesn't have Sharon's birthday party. That leaves Sharon's 1994 birthday party happening on Fri Sept 16, Wed Sept 21, or Thurs Sept 22. Or it could have happened off-screen. Soapcentral bio for Sharon says her birthday is Sept 17, but I don't know where they got that from. (Sept 17 was a Saturday in 1994) -------------------------------------- US Monday June 29, 2020 (CDN Fri June 26, 2020) #5450, original US airdate Wed Sept 21, 1994. (This is what we've been trying to figure out). new from Global: US Tuesday June 30, 2020 (CDN Mon June 29, 2020) #5509, original US airdate Wed Dec 14, 1994. In early Dec. 1994, "rec.arts.tv.soaps" newsgroup did a split. CBS daytime soaps were to be in "rec.arts.tv.soaps.cbs" But Y&R posts appeared in both of the groups for a while. I checked both newsgroups. Posts indicated that Matt Clark raped Sharon in the car, on the episodes of Friday Dec 16, 1994 and Monday Dec 19, 1994. One poster posted on 12/15/94 "Sharon raped by Matt -- could they have been more obvious? Could they have been more obvious about this happening? I've been fairly sure that this was going to happen for about a week, I hardly needed to watch." I don't know if the rape aired 12/15 also, or if that poster saw it early in Canada. I found nothing at all about Wed. Dec 14, 1994.
