  1. AP has called New Mexico, Virginia, and Hawaii for Kamala Harris, plus part of Nebraska which splits its vote Per AP projections: 210 electoral votes for Kamala Harris 230 for tr*mp 98 not yet called _____________________________ 538 total (need 270 for majority) update on Senate: AP now calling 51 Republicans to win the Senate majority. Democrat Adam Schiff of California won the Senate seat that the late Dianne Feinstein had held. (As a congressman, he led the first impeachment trial of tr*mp)
  2. azcentral.com (arizona newspaper) still has it tied at 49.7% tr*ump and 49.5% Harris. And Jill Stein at 0.4% So far, I'm seeing 50 Republicans in the Senate and 41 Democrats, with nine uncalled. If the Senate ends up 50/50, then the Senate is controlled by whichever party wins as President/Vice President. (as the VP casts the deciding vote in a tied Senate).
  3. From the Phildelphia Inquirer, it looks like some regions of Pennsylvania went for Trump - but it's too close to call in Philadelphia, and that could make the difference? "election officials in the Philadelphia area were predicting they would finish counting votes by Wednesday evening at the latest even as they have hundreds of thousands more ballots to tally. Under state law most counties in the state will continue counting ballots overnight, not stopping the counting process until all votes have been counted (aside from provisional ballots and others that are voted on by county election boards days later)."
  4. Voters in Missouri — the first state to make abortion illegal after Roe v. Wade — approved a constitutional amendment that protects abortion in state law. The citizen-led initiative petition will legalize abortion up to 24 weeks, handing Democrats a crucial win on a top campaign priority.
  5. AP has called Oregon for Harris. AP has called North Carolina for tr*mp Per AP projections: 187 electoral votes for Kamala Harris 230 for tr*mp 121 not yet called _____________________________ 538 total (need 270 for majority) Fyi, North Carolina is still very close, so the AP felt a need to explain why it called North Carolina
  6. Philadelphia Inquirer says Pennsylvania is too close to call.
  7. AP has called Washington State and California for Harris. Per AP projections: 179 electoral votes for Kamala Harris 214 for tr*mp 145 not yet called _____________________________ 538 total (need 270 for majority)
  8. Arizona is still very close. Each time I check, it's still nearly tied, sometimes slightly blue, sometimes slightly red. 49.5% and 49.7% varying.
  9. I think Katie Couric might be referring to the swing states that haven't been called yet, or those states who appear to be leaning red but don't have many votes counted yet.
  10. Katie Couric just said this was true of 2020.
  11. As happens in many years, in many states .. the less densely populated rural counties (of whatever state) report in earlier, as those votes are counted faster. The more heavily-populated urban/suburban counties take much longer to count.
  12. Delaware State Sen. Sarah McBride becomes the first openly transgender member of U.S. Congress
  13. per AP, 37% of Iowa vote is counted, and he's leading, but they haven't called it yet
  14. https://x.com/BarackObama/status/1853904959412338963 Barack Obama @BarackObama It took several days to count every ballot in 2020, and it’s very likely we won’t know the outcome tonight either. So please keep a few things in mind as you make your voice heard today: – Thousands of election workers around the country are working hard today. Respect them. Thank them. – Don’t share things before checking your sources. – Let the process run its course. It takes time to count every ballot.
  15. AP Call: Kamala Harris wins Colorado
  16. update from azcentral.com With 34.27% of the vote in Arizona counted, it's an even tie at 49.6% each (with Jill Stein getting the remaining 0.4%)
  17. Hours extended at 9 precincts in eastern Arizona county https://apnews.com/live/trump-harris-election-updates-11-5-2024#00000192-ff4d-df8c-a7fb-ff4ff1200000 A judge has ordered polling places to remain open two extra hours in nine precincts in an eastern Arizona county following a rocky start to Election Day that included malfunctioning equipment and a lack of printed ballots. Apache County Superior Court Judge Michael Latham agreed to keep the polls open at the request of the Navajo Nation, which filed a lawsuit asking for extended hours due to the problems. Meanwhile, bomb threats to polling places at schools in neighboring Navajo County prompted some to close momentarily and one to evacuate and send students home for the day. Authorities said they received email bomb threats at four locations in Navajo County, including at least three polling sites. They determined the threats were not credible.
  18. North Carolina hasn't been called yet. Tr*mp is leading in the areas reporting, but the entire state is not definite yet. Many of the state’s most populous counties haven’t reported significant numbers of votes cast in person on or before Election Day.
  19. To keep my sanity, I'm on Paramount Plus watching random episodes from all the Star Trek series. I need the affirmation of their vision for intergalactic harmony of all sentient beings. And also watching some silly comedies. and wordless nature videos.
  20. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2n4g86dw9o Kamala Harris will spend election night at Howard University, her alma mater and a historically black university in Washington DC. The Democratic presidential nominee graduated from Howard in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in political science and economics. She has maintained close ties with the school and often describes her four years there as the most formative of her life. Howard's president, Ben Vinson III, said that it was the first time in modern history that a college campus has hosted a presidential election watch party. Classes were cancelled on Tuesday to give students the best opportunity to vote. Harris supporters gathered outside the school before the watch party began. Founded in 1867, Howard is one of the largest, and most academically rigorous, historically black universities in the country. It produces more black PhD recipients than any other university in the country and currently serves about 11,000 students.

  22. From The Guardian New Jersey Democrat Andy Kim becomes first Korean American elected to Senate. Andy Kim is the winner of New Jersey’s Senate race, the Associated Press reports, making the Democratic congressman the first Korean American elected to Congress’s upper chamber. Kim takes over from fellow Democrat Robert Menendez, who resigned his seat after being convicted of bribery charges. George Helmy, also a Democrat, was appointed to replace Menendez, but did not run for a full term.

  24. I miss the old days when the media had a standard to not report any results until ALL polls in all timezones had closed.
