  1. Lucci was frequently over dramatic but I liked her and she was the show. (I do think however AMC could somewhat have a leg to stand on without Lucci but B&B without Flannery however, definitely not!) Sometimes Erika Slezak as Niki/other alters was OTT. I enjoyed the Niki returning plot in the 80s, and the '95 Victor lord death plot. Niki Smith in 2002 became too cartoonish. When she first returned in 2001 there were some good moments where she haunted Viki, leading up to the Jessica/Natalie baby switch plot. Once the writers had Niki framing Nat to think she had split personality and pushed Ben out of the window, things went off the rails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16Y5T6cJKpk&t=444s
  2. B&B was good from 1987-2002. More specifically I agree with @YRfan23 1988/89-95 and then a resurgence from 98-2002. The last decent stories were the Brooke/Deacon affair and Taylor's "death". It was down hill after there for me. 2003-2008ish past the show's prime, but gold compared to today's crap. Once Steffy/Liam/Hope took over and Ridge & Stephanie left, that was it. Anything post 2009/10 is unwatchable for me. Agreed @ChickenNuggetz92 Prime quality Y&R was up until 2001. After 2002, I noticed production values and ornate camera angles and movement vanished. It was downhill from 2002, with 2005 into early 2006 being the final nail in the coffin, to me.
  3. I'm late but what a rare find those 70s episodes were!
  4. B&B: Stephanie Forrester! ruthlessness, power, rage, motherly love all in one OLTL: Viki and Asa! Asa was the old country JR Ewing womanizing patriarch. He could be funny, disgusting and ignorant yet loveable. AMC: Erica Kane ATWT: Bob, Kim, Lucinda, Barbra, John, Lisa and all the other OGs. The multi generational aspect of ATWT as well as their core of vets was the best. Y&R: Katherine, everything from the her hand gestures to dramatic delivery she really worked the grand dame archetype.
  5. OLTL- Todd Manning in 2000, Tomlin era Todd and the dead baby lie storyline and Blair shooting Max in the back was good comedy drama. OLTL- Mitch in 2002 , it was good until it went off the rails with Mitch going blind etc....Mitch in 2012 for the finalie (where I first heard of him) was also fun.
  6. Same mistake her "mother"/older look alike Hunter Tylo made.
  7. late 70s GH!! Love the cold dull lighting, and great charachters
  8. It's been a strong year for classic content, and may 2021 he even better!!!
  9. I also agree with the idea that Jason wouldn't have lasted so long. Im not against the Jason Q to Jason M transition but yes Sonny/Jason/Carly should not have eaten the eaten show. I'm for an occasional Jason/Carly pairing. I wonder why Burton supposedly fought that. I understand an actor not just wanting to be a slave to the writers and do whatever he's told but.... I don't like it when an actor's vision comes at the detriment of the show. Most of the time its best that actors and writers stay in their lanes.
  10. In watching old clips, I realized yesterday was 25 years since Jason's accident. It was a great storyline, though it was rough seeing how obnoxious Jason was in the immediate aftermath due to the brain damage. That one moment (in part) established the next quarter century of show focus. I wonder how different GH would be had Jason Morgan remained Jason Quartermaine.
  11. Y&R: John, Cassie, Rex, Brad, Diane Jenkins, Dina, Drucilla, Ryan(arguably), Cassaundra GH: Alan (that really hurt😐), AJ, Emily, Rick Webber, Duke OLTL: Jared, Nash, Ben B&B: Macy, Darla
  12. I Appreciate the uploads as always! @BoldRestless
  13. What a great year 2020 has been for classic Y&R content! Not sure if this was posted already but a YouTube channel uploaded the October 1997 episode in which Nina pulls a gun on Tricia and Ryan: (This is definitely here already) "FYI" re-uploaded Nina's emmy episode from 1991:
  14. Exactly when did All My Children's shooting style and lighting turn so cheap. The sets and picture quality seemed to really have improved with the move to LA towards the end.
  15. Ironic. Even in that decade long stretch of being divorced, they were constantly wrestling with being together. Even after that 98 reunion they kept playing around until 02. I agree. Nick and Sharon are a perfect embodiment of on again off again becoming stale. Writers need to find a plot device other than romantic tension for longterm couples. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU B&B!) Victor & Nikki have got to stop! They're too old now to still be carrying on with their marital issues. Wrong thread but, the only soap couple I can think of where the constant back-and-forth works for me was Alan and Monica on General Hospital. They always came back to each other, except once when they briefly divorced.
  16. @Paul Raven Would u consider Ridge/Brooke/Taylor super? Im glad they didn't join the adventure craze for the most part. Evey soap cant be the same, nor does evey storyline (fantasy, action, sci fi) work for every show.
  17. @Faulkner they never had the power of say Sonny & Brenda or Jack & Carly etc..., to me. IDK what it is, maybe Y&R just breaks couples up too frequently for them to gain that following. (Victor & Nikki being the exception).
  18. Since Y&R hit number one, I'd say 89-93 was 1st tier, 97-01 2nd tier, 94-97 3rd tier, 02-05 4th tier. Overall, late 80s to very early 00s Y& R was a long and solid period. Outside of Victor and Nikki, does the show have any other couples that reach SUPER status. I really don't consider Nick and Sharon a super but just couple. They've been on and off too many times to care at this stage. An argument can be made that Neil Dru constitute as a super couple. General Hospital and All My Children were putting them out like a factory.
  19. In watching old episodes, after that slump around 1994, it felt like the plots got better going into 97-98.
  20. Question: When Sheila switched over to B&B in 1992, she still used her real name despite being declared dead after the farmhouse fire. In theory, wouldn't credit card companies, or some kind of billing agency realize there'd been some activity using her name in LA? I know its a soap but it hit me to question how Sheila was able to keep her past hidden from the Forresters, not having used an alias.
  21. Im liking the Christine appreciation. She was a great adversary to Phyliss in comparison to Sharon. Cricket is way too serious and humorless these days. The JT storyline also reflected negatively on her. She spent her days in legal aid defending women from abuse now she's prosecuting them. Likewise she helped Sharon back in the day now she's prosecuting her. To me, Michael Baldwin (had he retained his edge) would function better as a nasty and aggressive prosecutor, than Christine who has deeper ties to the canvas.
  22. best episodes; Sheila Farmhouse, Paul's centerfold, Kay's facelift, Victor/Diane divorce 1998, Christine's bachelor party, and the 1981 episode for the Lori/Vanessa scenes! It was a good run, but its sad living in the past because presetnt daytime sucks! .....Make soaps and broadcast television great again😥
