Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
So, why were Steph's ghostly appearances for a character she didn't even know so much better than the sh!t exit she got? I hope they bring her back from time to time as a ghost, as Hollyoaks is the only British soap that can get away with farce like that.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
All Pat fans should watch Friday's episode. I thought it was very well-written and acted. I loved how they acknowledged her history with Mo, and Pat mentioning that she survived Lou Beale as a mother-in-law. The makeup people are doing a good job, they've really made Pat look sickly. I loved how Ricky told her in his usual bewildered fashion that he loved her. I also loved the bit at the end where Ricky obviously whispers in Bianca's ear that Pat doesn't have much longer left. Ricky and the rest should already that if they push Janine she's going to lash out much worse than they expected. I'm looking forward to her final scenes with Pat the most. In a rare ending, they actually used a song in the background and a closeup on Pat as she realized this is probably going to be her last time in the Vic. I thought it was very well done, and the expression on Pat's face was heartbreaking. I think I'm going to be in tears for Pat's last episode. It's so hard watching her slip away. I'm going to miss her so much.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
The DVD thread got me thinking about how many different and diverse eras GL's had, and how hard it must be selecting episodes to best represent the show across so many different eras. I think what sets GL apart was enough though it was prone to many reinventions, was the fact that GL always seemed to keep a lot of its core values in tact across many of the rapid changes it was subjected to. Unlike say ATWT, I think GL was more about community than core families per se. As long as the show had some type of community atmosphere, it could withstand whatever you threw at it, which is why I think it lasted so long. Shows like OLTL and DAYS were also prone to constant reinventions, but unlike GL, I don't think those shows ever really kept much of their core values through it all. They kind of just went in the direction that seemed popular at the time.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Yeah, and it looks like Pat's Revealed episode will be just 30 mins, but unlike other Revealed episodes, it won't go off on unrelated tangents, it will focus exclusively on Pat. That Pat/Janine scene in that trailer makes me a bit emotional. I'm glad they appear to patch things up before Pat's death. Good to see David back, but Pat asking for him over Simon? She always seemed closer to Simon, at least in recent years.

Surprisingly, this is Sharon's only Julia's Theme moment (to the Jazzy version of Julia's Theme). It's from the 1993 episodes where Sharon, Grant, Pat, Frank, Kathy and Phil go to France. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uWLLyvq4Z1A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Pat's Revealed episode, Farewell Pat, will air on January 2nd.... Should be a good one.... It's airing on BBC One too, instead of BBC Three. Glad Pam/Pat is getting the respect they deserve.

What Are You Listening To?
It was a #1 hit for her in the summer of 1992. She seems to neglect a lot of her ballads on tour and on compilation albums. Then again, all of her ballads from the 80's until 1995 are on her ballads compilation, Something To Remember.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Janine has been the saving grace of the show this year to be honest. After the way Santer trashed the character, I'm surprised she's become well-rounded again. She's been carrying big amounts of the show this past year. I think her and Michael have a fascinating dynamic, I'm not sure if he's using her, but there appears to be some connection and spark there that she's never had with anyone. I hope Charlie doesn't leave again, because I think Janine's become too crucial to the show, and is needed more than most.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
A lot of those books seem to exist in a separate universe from the show. A lot of inconsistencies between them and the actual show. I'm not sure Pat ever made mention of her siblings, but I could be wrong. I'm amazed Pat lasted through so many eras and was a very vital element on the show up until the Louise Berridge era. It just won't be the same without her. I just hope her passing has some longterm value for the characters closest to her.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Pat had a complicated history with the Beale's. In fact, Pat's only friend on the show when she arrived was Angie. Pat's entire basis for coming into the show was to make their lives hell, Pete in particular. I think it was a brilliant on the show's part to make mention of Pat and alluding to her for an entire year before she showed up. They clearly had plans for the character and were building up to her arrival. It's interesting how Pat evolved, and how her story with Frank became her definitive and iconic story. The character she evolved into was nothing like the borderline racist drunken whore she arrived as. Janine will probably hate to see it, but she'll end up just like Pat. Their lives already mirror each other tremendously in some ways.
