I think Long and Curlee's interpretation of Holly worked very well. I liked that they made Holly a sexier character, and MG was more in touch with Holly's aesthetic and sexual side with her comeback. In the end, I think Holly's evolution was pretty natural when she returned. Holly was dressed like a preacher's wife for most of the 70's/1980 - thank goodness for the wardrobe makeover!

Did Maureen Garett leave because she didn't like Marland's writing for Holly post-Roger? I know some have claimed this. I know many claim Marland zapped Holly of her acerbic wit, and made her totally void of any humour. Say what you want about Holly, but she always had some sense of humour.

Maeve Kinkead is amazing. Her and Maureen Garrett are so underrated and because they don't chew the scenery, they never get the credit they deserve. How lucky was GL to have them? Too bad they didn't get better treatment towards the end. I always hated the Matt and Vanessa pairing... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KNvISqaYxbw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Glad they worked that out, especially since he retired from acting a while ago.

I also enjoyed the scenes between Janine and Ricky in Pat's room on Tuesday's episode: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Bzg8r7wKIJg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I wish he'd stay longer than an extended guest stint. He adds a lot to the show.

Ugh, not only was Sonia an annoying character, but Natalie Cassidy is just as annoying and hypocritical as a person.

I think BBC America used to do weekend omnibuses of EastEnders when they used to air it. I remember I used to live for that in the early 00's, lol. I miss the old BBC America, before it became all generic and crap with the same programs airing over and over again.

Pat's Revealed episode, which was good overall, but a bit too much focus on Frank and Peggy: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2FGdcNtn7T8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TMQ0QXQK_PU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Pat's last episode had some really great, character-defining moments. I especially loved everything with her and Janine, and with her and David. Watching Pat slip away is so raw, realistic, and heartbreaking. Those scenes with Bianca in the kitchen where Pat was trying to make tea, or when she was trying to put on her lipstick were so devastating to watch. It's almost like watching a real family member trying to put on a brave face, when you know realistically, they'll never be able to make it work. Everyone that needed to say their final goodbyes to her were there (with the exception of I guess Simon). The Janine/Pat scenes were classic. Loved it. Everything that needed to be said was said. I loved how Janine rushed to Pat's room to see for herself when she realized that it wasn't an act, but Pat was really on her final stages of life. I loved how Pat told Janine that she reminded her of herself when shew was younger. That overhead shot of Janine laying on Pat as Pat was stroking her hair was beautiful. Such a nice resolution to what was one of the show's most complex relationships. It's good that Pat and David found a resolution to their relationship as well. Through David, they were able to tap into more of Pat's history and backstory, especially given her wilder days and what a terrible mother she was. I also loved the scenes between David and Carol in the rain when David wanted to leave again. They were nicely acted. It's fitting that David returned in the rain, as that's the way he left with Joe chasing after him. Some nice little moments, like Ian still obviously uncomfortable around David and not able to look him in the eyes, or Whitney having to introduce herself to David, implying that she was very much still and outsider to that family dynamic were good to see. It also also nice to see them tie this into Tanya's cancer battle. While I could have done without Derek hamming it up, Tiffany's annoying ass stage school cutesy routine, Whitney's whorish behaviour, and some stuff dragging, it didn't prevent me from enjoying the episode. It's a fitting end for a legend on the show. I loved that they had the episode fade to black and had Pat's theme playing over the credits. I think this may the only time they ever faded to black without a duff duff, Julia's theme, or some standard song playing at that moment. Pam gave it her all. This show won't be the same without her and Pat. Goodbye Pat!

Do you think they'd revert to making Sharon and Phil a romantic pairing again? I think the show moved her on from the Mitchell's during her come back years in the early 00's. I don't think Sharon would ever want Phil again. In fact, one of John Yorke's initiatives when he brought her back in 2001 was to show that she was over him (and Grant by extension) after her first legitimate pairing with Phil ended. Though, I do think for Phil (and Grant) Sharon was the only woman they ever really loved, even if things never quite went right with her and them. I wouldn't mind if they tried Grant and Sharon again, assuming Letitia and Ross return. Sharon and Grant were THE couple of the show during the early 90's, and his love for her lingered on and was a vital part of his character during the years he was on the show and she wasn't.

I hope Sharon makes her return in 2012. Next week will make 6 years since her last ever appearance. This is now her longest break from the show. With Pat, Peggy, and Pauline all gone, it's the right time for Sharon to come back. She can be some type of "heart" of the show, but she's still young enough to carry stories on her own. This shitty exit, which wasn't even supposed to be final needs to be rectified. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qpa5TOs9OXc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
