What a poignant way to bring in 2021.  Thanks for sharing.  And, of course, may your 2021 be safe and blessed and sane.

      And on another note:

I'd heard the stories about her being taken advantage of and abused but Bell seemed to be the one trying to control the narrative and blaming her son. This is so awful.

The first episode is wonderful, with a very well written fakeout about a married couple and which of them will live or die. I have never finished the show due to the episode about the mentally handicapped man accused of rape and murder, and then their getting rid of Abby for being too strong a woman, but I guess I should try someday.

I believe part of the issue was also Carolyn Seymour's alcoholism, but yes, losing her didn't inspire me to finish. I am going back to it now. Contagion and Andromeda Strain too.

Have you ttied the Get My Payment option on the website? I tried it last night (after giving up on it earlier in the day) and actually found out that my check is being mailed tomorrow. Now that I have a new bank (which I had just closed an account before the pandemic, which was why I had to give an address, in the first place) wanted to add my information for direct deposit but they had no option for that.

There were long wait times if you visited the website during the day yesterday but I went on last night and got through quickly. Off peak hours, I guess.

I did. It said my payment was deposited in my account yesterday. It wasn't. The bank has no record of it. I feared I was one of the people who used TurboTax and got theirs sent to them, but I don't know for certain. Now I'm just trying to get answers.

      Oh dear.

My mom almost experienced something similar but when I checked for her, I noticed that there was a lag in processing. Her money was supposed to be deposited yesterday but the transaction didn't appear on the digital statement until this morning. At least, last night, there was an indication that it was 'in transit', or whatever it's called.

I hope you get your money soon. I understand how frustrating it can be.

I just saw this online a half-hour ago and Good Lord, the tragedy never ends!

  8. A few things on watching The Hand that Rocks the Cradle again after 25 years:

    1. Annabella Sciorra's rise in the late '80s/early '90s was major and for years I wondered what happened to it - now we know she chose to remove herself from stardom following her rape by Harvey Weinstein. Tragic.

    2. Even on the big screen, Julianne Moore had the knack very early.

    3. Rebecca De Mornay deserved a bigger career. She was always more versatile than her looks allowed - see her in the cult classic Runaway Train in the mid-80s where she plays a hardbitten railway worker of all things. She's great and I guess I'm glad Jessica Jones at least gave her a showcase, but she still deserves more.

I saw a few old HBO promos for some movie she did for them in the late '80s where she was one of the pilots who had to nuke the USSR. I haven't ever seen the movie...I do wonder if she feels like she got more interesting roles before Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

It's not a bad movie! She's good in it as well - same grit as Runaway Train. "By Dawn's Early Light".

Heck, she made even "Feds" watchable!

Thanks for sharing this with us. The last section about the world we're living now was very emotional - especially when she talked about wanting to write a letter about Franken but Dinah told her she'd just be attacked.

  9. A very fun interview with Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes, who is always a hoot. Genie Francis comes up: https://www.vulture.com/2019/01/star-trek-jonathan-frakes-director-interview.html

  10. Addicted to Borgen on Netflix, after waiting many many years to have an opportunity to see it properly after endless buzz. Few shows have depicted the decay of a relationship so agonizingly.

We started watching the show recently as well. I cannot fully get the hype, though. If you are refering to Birgitte and her husband I'm 100% behind your statement. The actors are AMAZING and the spotlight on the family life of a Nation's leader in the 2000s is exquisite. The episodic storyline are mostly meh; the only episode that truly stood out for me was the one about female quotas in corporations.

I love them all so far tbh

I loved Borgen too. It's been a while since I watched it, and it kind of made me want to Denmark for a moment there. The actress playing Birgitte is *chef's kiss* in the role. All of them are good, in fact.

  11. Adrian Lyne is making movies again and I'm excited. He's never been given enough credit.

  12. After almost 50 years, The Other Side of the Wind is here on Netflix. I never thought I'd see the day.

I just read about this.  Everyone involved was so innovative and I'm glad that the Alien franchise complemented the play, instead of trying to pull a Cease & Desist, the way that Aaron Sorkin and the Harper Lee Estate has been doing with productions of To Kill A Mockingbird.

  14. Almost four seasons in, I'm still surprised when Rachel Dratch turns up in yet another cameo on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

  15. Am I insane or is this Corbin Bernsen as the pilot taking Bob and Steven Weber to Dream's End on ATWT in '86? It's not in his IMDB and the picture quality is bad but still.

    1. DramatistDreamer

      DramatistDreamer

      That is indeed Corbin Bernsen.
