I just saw this online a half-hour ago and Good Lord, the tragedy never ends!

  2. A few things on watching The Hand that Rocks the Cradle again after 25 years:

    1. Annabella Sciorra's rise in the late '80s/early '90s was major and for years I wondered what happened to it - now we know she chose to remove herself from stardom following her rape by Harvey Weinstein. Tragic.

    2. Even on the big screen, Julianne Moore had the knack very early.

    3. Rebecca De Mornay deserved a bigger career. She was always more versatile than her looks allowed - see her in the cult classic Runaway Train in the mid-80s where she plays a hardbitten railway worker of all things. She's great and I guess I'm glad Jessica Jones at least gave her a showcase, but she still deserves more.

I saw a few old HBO promos for some movie she did for them in the late '80s where she was one of the pilots who had to nuke the USSR. I haven't ever seen the movie...I do wonder if she feels like she got more interesting roles before Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

It's not a bad movie! She's good in it as well - same grit as Runaway Train. "By Dawn's Early Light".

Heck, she made even "Feds" watchable!

  3. A very fun interview with Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes, who is always a hoot. Genie Francis comes up: https://www.vulture.com/2019/01/star-trek-jonathan-frakes-director-interview.html

  4. Adrian Lyne is making movies again and I'm excited. He's never been given enough credit.

  5. After almost 50 years, The Other Side of the Wind is here on Netflix. I never thought I'd see the day.

Is that Orson Welles final film?

I just read about this.  Everyone involved was so innovative and I'm glad that the Alien franchise complemented the play, instead of trying to pull a Cease & Desist, the way that Aaron Sorkin and the Harper Lee Estate has been doing with productions of To Kill A Mockingbird.

  7. Almost four seasons in, I'm still surprised when Rachel Dratch turns up in yet another cameo on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

  8. America: Stop taking your little kids to horror movies while they're in theaters.

Like, I get that the character may be the lead, but after the stories about her being hell on that set as well, there's the fact that I'm sorry, but she is not a bigger name than J. Lo yet.

It seems like she hides behind "driving representation for Asian Americans in media" to excuse her bad behavior. Despicable.

CC really had an It Factor that went beyond her looks. I thought she was hilarious and much more subtle than the part of Cordelia might lead you to believe. I'm stunned she didn't get more work beyond Angel (and a walk on in Veronica Mars). I hope it's not because Joss and the producers blackballed her in the industry because she *dared* to fall pregnant during S4 filming.

I was mortified when I next saw her playing Jason Statham's girlfriend in The Expendables. Talk about low rent (Statham was at the time).

We've all got rent to pay, lol. Gotta give it to Statham. +20 years playing the same enforcer character in the same film the industry keeps greenlighting!

  9. Annabella Sciorra is a villain in S2 of Luke Cage: http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/luke-cage-season-2-annabella-sciorra-1202727904/

Good to hear there will be a season 2. :)

  10. Another unforeseen benefit of Stranger Things 2: Introducing me to Olivia Newton-John hits I wasn't familiar with.

Love this song, I have that CD

  11. As a horror fan, a Haunting fan and a soap opera fan, The Haunting of Hill House is a mammoth achievement in several genres. Watch it.

It's an incredible series. Definitely one of my all-time favorite Netflix shows. I watched it a few weeks ago, right after my dad passed away. Some of the scenes and images from the show haunted me for days afterward.

I thought the family drama was quite well done.

  12. As a mild distraction for me from today's horrible news: The Megyn Kelly dish in both the Daily Beast article in her meltdown thread and this Daily Mail(!) article is delicious. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6320437/Black-employees-NBC-hurt-Megyn-Kelly-playing-MeToo-card-collect-69M-payout.html

Black people are gonna keep it "100 real."

  13. As happy as I am that Netflix is reviving Carmen Sandiego as an educational show for a new generation of children, nothing will beat the PBS game show starring SON's own Lynne Thigpen. I watched her everyday afterschool.

This is where I first saw Lynne Thigpen, along with Square One. I just loved her on those shows.

I had no idea SNL did this. It's a fairly lame bit but Sasheer Zamata's Chief is pretty on point and the ludicrous attention to detail (along with the trip destination and voice-overs about the kids) is the funniest part.

    3. DRW50

      DRW50

I wonder how many SNL viewers even knew what that was. They didn't seem all that enthused (then again it is SNL..). I guess this was after SNL kept trying to write her as a voice of reason and moral conscience.

  14. As kind as it is of them to include the very ill Val Kilmer in the unnecessary Top Gun sequel, I'll only be impressed if someone calls Kelly McGillis.

    1. Khan

      Khan

I'll be impressed if they can actually FIND Kelly McGillis.  (Seriously, where has she been keeping herself these days?)

    1. DRW50

      DRW50

I guess it's the new "any show with more than 9-13 episodes is automatically bad and bloated." I hate the word "manspreading."

  15. Bandersnatch on Netflix has me stressed but I am sticking with my Thompson Twins choice no matter what

  16. Beautiful tribute to Carrie Fisher at this weekend's Star Wars Celebration:

  17. Ben Schwartz IS (the voice of) Sonic the Hedgehog alongside Tika Sumpter and James Marsden and I guess that's the late 2010s for you alright
