I figured this was the best place to ask this.
For you long term viewers all the way back to the 80’s, what exactly is so great about Victor Newman? Why are he and the performer behind the man seemingly never on the losing end? I’ve only watched Y&R for maybe 15 years or so and I’ve just never understood the characters appeal. He’s an ass.hole to just about everyone but seems to in particular get a kick out of doing it to his family. I just don’t get it.
There's lots of great material in the soap vault to catch up on! Most of the clip compilations from '82 on feature his storyline.
Bill Bell's Victor showed much more vulnerability after his initial story as Julia's terrible husband who holds her lover in a dungeon. Everyone knows about the orphanage storyline, but there's all these little details like where he is bothered by people overindulging because he didn't get enough to eat. And there is the time he goes to the unemployment office just to show that he can get a working class job on his own, and runs into someone he laid off. He doesn't judge Nikki in any way for being a stripper but he can be tough on her as his way of getting her to improve herself. He thinks he's too old for her and she should settle down with someone her age. He gets taken for a ride by Lorie Brooks bigtime. Not to mention the saga with EveHoward. But he has his badass moments too of course. And he shows a dry sense of humor in his scenes with Douglas. He comes off as a well-rounded, educated self-made man knowledgeable about the world. Way more nuanced than the angry man from the last 15 years.

Yes but Nikki didn't fall off the wagon this time, she was pushed.
Jordan and Claire put an IV full of alcohol in Nikki's arm. Literally, an IV.I don't trust the show to write it well from here on; but it should take Nikki some effort to regain her sobriety after this trauma.
And I have to say the multiple incidents of her pulling it out and it being put back in was one of the grossest things I've seen on daytime...

There used to be a vault for Y&R episodes and the links I had back then don't seem to work anymore. Does anyone know where I can find the link now?
The updated link is always found here on twitter: https://twitter.com/yrvault?lang=en

I watched only ABC soaps. And then I picked up Days and Y&R due to them being watched by people I knew. I watched B&B briefly when the Avants were on.
But I've never seen a single episode of As The World Turns. I never heard of Colleen Zenk until a month ago - that may seem sacrilege to this board, but it is what it is.
I take everyone's word for it that Zenk is a good actress, and I believe you; but so far, I've seen her in only a few episodes of Y&R. Jordan is written as a cartoon villain. I'm sure Zenk is doing what she can with what's written and I respect that.
But this type of camp writing/production is just not interesting to me.It might be an unpopular opinion but I found her extremely campy on ATWT too. She wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm happy that she's got a job again and people seem to be enjoying it.

I wish they would do the storyline with Ridge instead, really kill him off, and give Eric back the damn office!

CZ said she has really big scenes airing on December 26th... the way they have blown through everything I can't even imagine the story going on til the end of this week.

Thanks for the daily ratings checks and the reminder. I will add that GL preemption in the 1990's list. Isn't it the following day though? Monday 1/21 aired the first 28 minutes (so I guess that episode counted as airing). It's Tuesday 1/22 that aired a portion of the episode from 3-330 and the Wed. 1/23 aired a portion from 339-4. So, I believe the 1/22 episode aired over two days (1/22 and 1/23), making 1/22 the "preempted" day.
You're welcome!
I am counting 1/22 as the preempted day but @TEdgeofNight's helpful information only mentioned 1/22 being a repeat of 1/21, so I'm assuming 1/23 was a new airing that just got partially preempted.

Also for those who keep track, @TEdgeofNight confirmed that the Guiding Light 1/22/91 breakout episode was a rebroadcast of the 1/21 episode (the full episode having been aired between both days).

Do you know where the clips in 1983 in the vault start?
In January, Nikki refuses to let the mob tape her act (they do it behind their back).

Does the vault have any scenes from Nikki porn tape story line? Specifically the scene where Nikki was tricked into the movie called Hot Hips.
They recorded her routine at the Bayou and intercut it with the sex tape. She had no idea until after it happened. There are a lot of clips in the 1983 series of clips in the vault.

B&B
I recall Sally Spectra dressed as a man to infiltrate Forrester? Can't find a pic.
Y&R
Christine disguised herself as Kelly something at one point. I wasn't watching at that point. What was the story?
I found some photos of Sally on google but there are better ones. The first time she did it in the 80s they did a really good job but I don't know the episode number to take a screenshot. It might have been around the time that Clarke was working as "Beau Rivage."
Christine dressed as "Kelly Simmons" to gather information on Isabella.

Didn't Eve die of illness? Nothing to do with Victor? Or maybe it was a stroke? I know she couldn't talk when Cole was telling her he was with Victoria who was thought to be his sister.

Well the next back from the dead characters I want back are Brad and Colleen. They could easily say they had to fake their deaths because the Nazis were back after them AND have Traci know they were just faking their deaths, she’s known all along they were alive she just had to play the part lol.
But you’ve got a point. However retcon Abbott characters like Theo and Allie don’t last, but it seems like Newman ones like Mariah do.
Well, I will say Camryn Grimes is an infinitely better actor than Theo or Allie.
As these things go (even though I hate this type of story) I wouldn't mind Colleen. At least that's a character with a history. I really find it ghoulish that the writers go through show history and are like "ohhh dead baby from 1998, there's a storyline we can build on!" It's just a step away from dead fetus stuff. Maybe Ashley's baby survived the fireplace and Adam is innocent... *barfs* Or, Christine's miscarried baby that Neil and Nikki killed in a car accident is living with Paul in Portugal. *shudder*

Nikki & Crazy Edward (1981)
can anyone share some info about this psycho storyline?
https://x.com/MarcoMcinroy/status/1727463091011784969?s=20
Edward was a neighbor of Nikki and Casey's. He started out stalking Casey and sending her gifts. It was a mystery who it was. At one point she thought it was Cash (Kay's lover, who worked at the Bayou) and Greg Foster was getting mysterious headaches that implied it could be him. He escalates to phone calls and one day Nikki picks up and lets him have it. He sends Casey tickets to a concert and Nikki goes in his place (though he does not reveal himself). Casey leaves town and eventually he transfers his attention to Nikki.
The stalker has an incel vibe (before that was a thing). There's a scene where he sneaks into the house while she's in the shower and starts touching her undergarments. He also cuts up one of her stripper costumes. Edward manages to be around all the time to "help." He doesn't like all the men that come to Nikki's house all the time (Cash, Jonas, Paul, Andy, etc). Jonas gets shot and Andy gets poisoned. Edward also sets a trap so Nikki will sprain her ankle and can't dance anymore.
Nikki is supposed to go on a trip when Edward invites her for a picnic. He proposes to her and gets angry when she laughs at him. She runs away into the woods and chases her around to a cabin and she also finds a group of guys in the woods but they're high and can't help her (wish we could see these scenes to see if they were on location). Edward wants to kill her and she stalls by asking to meet his mother that he's always talking about. Nikki realizes when she gets there he has a tape recorder making the calls and he was the stalker. He brings her to meet "mother" which is the scene you have there. At that point Carl, Paul and the gang have figured it out but Edward has set up dynamite, he intends to "purify" and kill Nikki and himself. He tells Nikki she's trash and needs to apologize to "mother" but she grabs the urn, throws the ashes in his eyes, and runs outside where Paul is waiting. Then Edward runs out and blows himself up.
A few days later, Cash encourages her to come back to the Bayou, Douglas Austin invites Victor to see her, and the rest, as they say, is history!

That phone sex voice. She was so pathetic.

Were many scenes cut during today's classic?
They cut a short scene where Nicholas visits Victoria. Other than that I noticed a few spots where they might have very subtly cut dialogue within a scene. They honestly could have cut both Michael scenes since they didn't connect to any other story, but I'm glad they didn't.
They obviously replaced the music during Nina and Ryan's dance, but the tune in the original doesn't sound like a famous song.
