I get that PIs are a soap staple, but is that a viable career in 2023, or is it like being a telephone operator?

I mean, can't characters just Google each other for background information, and use web cams to follow each other?

Perhaps he could start a web security business, to stop viruses and online threats?  That seems a bit more modern.

Good idea. It's already been established that he knows how to code.

Paul also did security. IIRC, George Rawlins hired him for that initially. Chance could do that too. Maybe act as a bodyguard for some of the imperiled women, lol.

Hmm, the later ones from 1992 and 1993 I did from a different list, where I just checked the calendar dates, so I could have possibly missed a random date somewhere. When I start doing the remainder of the 1992 and 1993 books, that should be caught if I missed something.

I'll be on the lookout. I'm sure it'll get figured out.

Is my math off or could there be a missing Guiding Light preemption or double numbered episode somewhere?

    According to random script covers:
Episode #10900 aired on 5/3/90 and
    Episode #11711 aired on 8/10/93.

I know that sometimes the script date turns out to be wrong, if there was an unaccounted for preemption before the airdate, but I don't see anything like that during those periods (just sports and holidays). There's also confirmation here that #11,421 aired on 6/12/92 https://glmanny.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/gl-40th-anniversary-special-1992/ (I am assuming the Primetime special doesn't get an episode number, since it was behind the scenes, not an episode - but who knows!)

When I try to chart out the numbers, I think we need one more preemption to make the dates work? I don't think CBS was doing holiday classic episodes yet as of 1993.

And the man who "gave" Nikki that chronic illness is the same man who is writing this current story.

See, that's why I said saddling Nikki with MS was a bad idea.

Plus, everyone talking about Victor's mental slowdown and no mention of him having epilepsy in the past.

I don't know what originally aired.  But per the above tweeted clip, what Victoria said in 2015 is that she never got to hold Eve and only saw her once through the NICU window.

Here are the recaps (excerpting relevant portions). It seems preposterous that this could be Eve. No one has motive to whisk her away. Cole wouldn't have had those sorts of connections.

NEIL, VICTOR, and NIKKI are in Olivia's office. Victor asks about Cole's presence with Victoria.. Olivia feels it was in Victoria's best interest. She tells them she's concerned about Victoria and may need to take some action soon, possibly exploratory surgery. Olivia doesn't want to do this, but Victoria is developing a very serious infection. Olivia needs answers. The tests aren't giving them to her. She tells them all that if they do the surgery, they may have may all have some quick decisions to make. Olivia gets called from the third floor about Victoria. She rushes out of her office without answering anyone's questions.

OLIVIA finds Victoria in excruciating pain and calls up OR, telling them to get prepared. She issuing orders like a general and orders a team in room 304 STAT. She goes to Victoria and tells her to try to calm down. Cole stands to the side in awe.

When Nikki, Victor and Neil arrive they all want to know what happened. Cole explains that suddenly Victoria was overcome with this awful pain and that she's on her way to the OR. Olivia is at the nurse's stations looking at the most recent test results and learns the white cell count is through the roof. Dr. Cromwell leaves immediately, stating he's going in. She tells them that Victoria's appendix has ruptured. Neil wants to know if they're going to take it out. Olivia tells him it's too late for that. Victoria and the baby are in crisis and they're trying to save their lives.

    Monday November 9, 1998
DR. CROMWELL is called to the OR and Olivia says that she has to go. She rushes out as Cole asks who Dr. Cromwell is. Neil tells him that he is Vicki's OB/GYN doctor. Cole realizes aloud that this means that something is going on to do with the baby. A nurse comes out of the OR and Victor stops her. She informs them that the baby has been delivered by C-section. She says that it is a baby girl and she is on her way to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. "Well, Cole, you are the father of a daughter," Nikki says.

    Tuesday, November 10, 1998
VICTOR sits by Victoria's bedside and caresses her hair. When she wakes up, she is confused and he tells her that she is in the hospital; she has had surgery for her appendix. She is relieved that the problem was with her and not the baby. All that worry for nothing, she murmurs. Victor tells her to sleep; he says that she needs to gain her strength. Happy that her baby is okay, Vicki caresses her abdomen. She realizes that the baby is gone and asks her father what happened to her baby. Victor tells her that the baby was born by C-section; she has a daughter. She wants her baby; bring the baby to me! She demands. Victor tells her that the baby is in a special nursery. The doctor will explain it to her when she is better. No, Victoria insists. If they can't bring her daughter to her, she wants to go to see her daughter!

    Friday, November 13, 1998

VICTORIA begs COLE to take her to see the baby but Cole reasons that the doctors know that their daughter needs to feel her mother's arms around her, but she's just had major surgery. Victoria admits that she got pregnant on purpose. She explains that before the business trip, Cole had been talking about having children and she couldn't handle it, so she stayed away longer than she had to. When she came back, she found that she'd alienated Cole completely and pushed him into the arms of another woman. Cole is stunned at first, but says that it makes sense to him now.

The nurse comes in to check Victoria's vitals. She finds that the stitches look good and her blood pressure is fine. Victoria begs the nurse to let her go to the nursery. She tells Victoria that she must follow doctor's orders. Not knowing how insensitive she's being, she tells Victoria that, after all, she'll have a lifetime with her baby. Victoria realizes that she doesn't know the situation, but she gets very emotional with Cole. She asks him if he could live with it if she didn't get to see their baby alive. Victoria doesn't care if there are tubes sticking out of her, she just needs to see her. Cole looks torn.

NEIL goes to the door of Victoria's room with the pastries (later handing them to a nurse to deliver) and sees Cole holding Victoria's hand and stroking it. He walks away and goes up to the nursery. He is watching Victoria and Cole's daughter. OLIVIA sees him and tells him that it looks like the baby is not going to make it. She says she could tell Victoria, but asks Neil if he could. She thinks it would be better coming from him. Neil looks up toward Heaven and softly asks why, and agrees he should tell Victoria. He can't do it immediately. He has to take some time to compose himself.

Through the doors of the nursery viewing room, Cole carries Victoria. They stand together in front of their daughter's incubator. Victoria touches the glass, as if to reach through to her little girl. Neil happens to see the two of them from the hallway. As Cole holds an agonizing Victoria, the steady rhythms of two things abide: the beep of the baby's heart monitor and tears streaming from the heart on the face of an agonizing mother.

    Monday November 16, 1998
At the hospital, COLE holds Vicki in his arms while she gazes into the special care nursery at her baby. Slowly, Cole stands her at the viewing window. With tears running down her cheeks, she tells Cole that she wants to name her baby; she wants her to know that she is somebody. Cole asks her what she wants to name her and Vicki says that she likes Eve, after his mother. Cole thinks that is a perfect name for her. She says that she wants the baby baptized as soon as possible and he tells her that he will make the arrangements. He gets a wheelchair and helps her back to her room.

COLE has taken Vicki back to her room and returned to the nursery. Neil is there and he walks up to Cole, telling him that he was out of line putting Vicki in jeopardy by bringing her up here earlier. Cole says that he couldn't deny her the one chance she may have to see her baby alive and he doesn't think Neil could have either. As they are arguing, the doctor comes up and tells Cole that he needs to talk to him. Neil leaves for Vicki's room. The doctor tells Cole that the baby hasn't much more time to live. Cole tells him that they want the baby baptized, but the doctor doesn't believe that there will be enough time. However, he tells the nurse to get in touch with the hospital chaplain and tell him that it is an emergency. "What about the mother?" The doctor asks. Cole tells him that she has had about all that she can handle. She just came down and saw the baby; maybe it would be best if she remembers the baby alive.

NEIL enters Vicki's room and sits down quietly. Vicki tells him that she isn't asleep. She tells him that she went to see the baby. She tells Neil that she is happy that she got to see her baby. She says that she named her Eve after Cole's mother. Neil says that that is a perfect name for the little girl. "She is so beautiful," Vicki says. "Of course she is beautiful," Neil answers. "Look at her mother." Vicki says that she has been thinking about life and how it starts from such a tiny speck, growing inside you until it is big enough to be born. It grows up and soon you are sending them off to college. Will I be sending Eve to college? She wants to know. Just then, the door opens and Cole walks in. Vicki can tell by the look on his face that the baby is gone. Neil gives Vicki a hug and a kiss. He rises and starts out the door, giving Cole a pat on the shoulder as she passes him. Cole walks over to the bed, sits and takes Vicki's hand. He tells her that Eve is gone. She died peacefully; she just couldn't fight any more. She wasn't alone when she died; he was there with her. The minister came and baptized her and said some beautiful words. Cole says that he told her that he loved her and that her mother loved her and then she was gone. "Thank God you were there with her," Vicki cries. "Oh God! Please hold me Cole!" Cole climbs upon the bed beside her and pulls a sobbing Vicki to his breast.

Everyone is waiting in the chapel for Vicki to arrive. Victor asks Nick if Sharon is coming. When Nick says that he told Sharon about it and left it up to her, Victor states that she damn well better show up; this is a family time when they have to be there for Vicki. Nick tells him to go easy on her because he is sure that this reminds her of the time when they almost lost Noah. Cole pushes Vicki into the chapel in a wheel chair just as Sharon arrives. Victor says that he is glad she could make it and she says that she wanted to be there for Vicki since she has an idea of what she is going through. Nick thanks her for coming just as Ryan announces that the minister is ready to begin.

When the service is over, everyone congregates near the nursing station to say their good-byes before taking Vicki back to her room. Victor tells her how brave she has been; he and Nikki kiss her and they leave. Nick and Sharon kiss her and Sharon tells her to call her for anything she may need. Cole is ready to take Vicki to her room but Neil steps in and says that he will do it. Vicki gives a panicked look to Cole but doesn't say anything. Nick tries to talk to Sharon but at first she brushes him off. Then she tells him that she isn't ready to go home yet. She suggests coffee together and he says he will take her to Gina's.

I remember reading a French chart here a few years ago but I wouldn't know where to find it now.

That's correct http://www.feuxdelamour.com/guide.pdf Some of the episode numbers here are wrong because the preemptions were not confirmed until the recent posting of Nielsen data (though this document is very well-researched and they did an excellent job), but that one isn't effected. These dates are in a French format so 4/2/93 is February 4.

A full month after All My Children's final air date, GH was not to far above what it is doing now:

    https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2011/11/ratings-all-soaps-up-in-women-18-49-demo

    Total Viewers
    1. Y&R 4,467,000 (-12,000/-411,000)
    2. B&B 3,180,000 (+113,000/+72,000)
    3. OLTL 2,562,000 (-31,000/+217,0000)
    4. GH 2,373,000 (+56,000/+91,000)
    5. DAYS 2,351,000 (-42,000/-73,000)

That's fascinating and sad for those who lost their shows.

Am I crazy to believe we won't see any shows cancelled in the near future? If Days underperforms they could just reduce the number of episodes, GH would go to streaming, the Bells could produce B&B independently and license it to a streaming service and international channels, and I actually think Y&R would be in the most trouble because its audience is old and it has no buzz, though I guess it could go to Paramount for a while.

Hey Eroll off topic question I hope you can answer. Let's say in some alternative timeline the canceled soaps never got canceled, we still had AMC, OLTL, GL, ATWT, Passions. What do you think their ratings would be? based on what the current 3 are doing currently.

Far be it from me to claim to be an expert, but I suppose someone could create a formula to figure out what percentage drop the current shows experienced, and apply that to those shows as of their cancellation.

Kudods to Y&R-this story seems to be getting a lot of attention.

However, it will probably amount to nothing.

Nothing?! Why, I bet Aunt Jordan owns a huge multinational conglomerate, she'll be killed off and leave the company to Nikki, to be merged with Newman-Kirsten-McCall-Locke enterprises in a board meeting at Crimson Lights. But who will run it? Adam, Victoria, or Nick?!

Would you call THAT boring? I bet they will even text about the merger from the Athletic Club bar and discuss it over drinks at the jazz club! This story could change everything! Victor might even hire Sally to decorate the offices but then FIRE her.

(On a serious note, even though they have crossed into Season 51, I am glad they are still bringing back old favorites for the 50th).

I'm starting to think Claire might be baby Eve so I say it's either Jordan stole her as a baby or Cole wanted her raised away from the Newman's?

We'll see. The bringing back of dead babies thing is not really my vibe. I can't really imagine a scene with AH's Victoria being reunited with the girl that used to play Abby only as her daughter, lol.

FYI this Feb. 4, 1993 episode would air
on Global-Canada on Wed. Nov. 22.
In USA it airs Thurs. Nov. 23 after the Thanksgiving Day parade in most timezones. But be aware:
In the Pacific timezone the parade will override Y&R in some  markets.  Also your local community might have special Thanksgiving events televised that override Y&R.   You can try to find it on another channel or on CBS.com or paramount plus that evening.  I suggest grabbing it off the Global website if you can, just in case your local channel in the USA doesn't carry it.

The last 4th of July classic wasn't on CBS or Paramount unfortunately (edit: I don't have Paramount but it definitely wasn't on CBS so just assuming). Hopefully they will be this time or someone will capture this from Global. Although this episode is around it's nice having an HD copy.

👍 These are all the same as SOW (I will no longer note any swapped placements if numbers are the same).

Thanks!  If you can check back to the first Soap Weekly chart from 10/16/89, that would be great.

    Here's what I have through 2/2/90:

    10/16/89-10/20/89
SOW has GL ahead of DOOL because of the 19 share (the numbers you have are the same though).

    10/23/89-10/27/89:
You have B&B's share at 20. SOW has 22.

    11/6/89-11/10/89:
Same numbers, but SOW has GL above B&B.

    11/27/89-12/1/89
I didn't type them all out but the share is different for virtually every show (this must be a fast national week?)

    12/25/89-12/29/89
OLTL and AMC are reversed from what SOW has. Same for Loving and SB but I think that's SOW's error.

    1/1/90-1/5/90
Nearly every show's ratings are different.
