GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Were Chris and Dan fired outright or were they demoted? I guess we’ll see when PM/Korte officially make it into the credits. I know Carlivati tweaked some things as well before he was officially credited (like Robin’s “death”).

GH: March 2024 Discussion Thread
I’m definitely sure there is a mix of ideas in this transition period and certain WGA rules may be in play for why things are credited the way they are. It’s just hard to know whose ideas are what in transitions - and even then, it’s only when the new regime starts their own stories from scratch that you’ll be able to get the best sample of their creative direction. Korte, for example, was already the Script Editor, so she always had a certain degree of influence on the final scripts if we’re talking just dialogue.

Agreed, best to wait until they appear in the credits or until we get confirmation from an office source that this is their work - even if some ghostwriting has been happening. Remember the ghastly hysteria you know who inflicted on these boards back in the day about someone ghostwriting AMC nonsense? Some folks were seeing changes that were never happening lol

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
You can never be too sure about what’s going on unless PM/Korte or Valentini openly come out and confirm the situation. There have been cases during transitions where both teams are credited in a strange way. When MAB and her Co-HWs were fired from Y&R in 2012, there was a bizarre transition period where the two regimes were credited together for a little bit.

ALL: Errors, Myths, Omissions & Firsts that weren't
Yeah, Korte was a Co-HW to MVJ, not equal Co-HWs. When it was announced that Megan McTavich was coming to GH in 2001, it was said she was joining a Head Writing team with MVJ and Korte - but we know that wasn’t JFP’s intention at the time, lol. Here’s the Variety article: ABC’s daytime writers do soap opera swap

ALL: Errors, Myths, Omissions & Firsts that weren't
Korte is listed separately from the AHW’s - there’s a space between her and the breakdown writers, indicating she was a Co-HW.

ALL: Errors, Myths, Omissions & Firsts that weren't
Well, that’s not how it was reflected in the credits, and when Wendy Riche announced MVJ’s promotion in 2000, she also announced Korte’s: GH places African-American as its new head writer Val Jean new head scribe of ‘General Variety article as well with Riche’s announcement in 2000.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
JFP said their biggest mistake was “making the audience care so much about Maureen” before the offed her - very bizarre way of looking at it. Shouldn’t the audience care about a character being killed off? Looking back at the interviews Nancy Curlee gave back then, it’s clear she was not on the same page as Jill with killing Maureen. The comments she made about how you don’t kill off a character like Nancy Hughes, that’s a safe space everyone wants to run to were quite telling.

Yes, I know PM was particularly proud of that exchange between Ed and Ross, and then the Holly and Michelle scenes in the next episode.

I read somewhere that MADD had actually wanted to bring Rauch back to AW in 1996 and was trying to get Lamay to re-join him, but ultimately decided Rauch would go to GL instead (which itself was almost on the brink of cancellation during this time as well). Instead, AW was left to struggle with JFP-lite (as I called her then), Charlotte Savitz, and a continuous stream of HW’s until Chris Goutman and Leah Laiman when it ended. Returns never really work in most cases, but I do wonder what could have happened if Rauch and Lemay came back and oversaw some of those final years.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
There’s credits in that episode, and Roger Newman is listed as the Script Writer, not Mulcahey. Mulcahey (and Courtney Simon) did write a lot of key episodes during this time. Notably, Mulcahey wrote Maureen’s funeral episode which won them the writing Emmy in 1993.

YR: show gets 4 year renewal
Honestly, that's some of it, but I also don't think Josh Griffith knows how to manage the show's budget either. Vivan Gundaker mentioned in an interview that she was surprised by how much bigger Y&R's production staff and budget was when she got there compared to what she was used to at ATWT. That had me asking myself - why does Y&R look as bare as a show on the verge of cancelation then? It doesn't make sense other than incompetency at the top.

YR: show gets 4 year renewal
Good for the show and those who get to keep their jobs, but Josh Griffith needs to go like yesterday.

ALL: Best performances by Black actors on soaps
By far, I think AMC had the strongest AA contingent of any of the ABC soaps in the 90’s. The black characters on Curlee’s GL felt real and never like tokens. I totally bought Hamp and Billy as best friends, David and Bridget as two broken youths bonding in the discovery of their selves, Gilly as the voice of reason at WSPR in the middle of Roger and Holly’s shenanigans, etc. They were embedded in Springfield society. Too bad subsequent regimes didn’t see it that way. I also didn’t know how rare it would be at the time to see Monti Sharp and Kristoff St. John (and later Shemar Moore) as the younger leading men in this respective soaps. That really hasn’t happen again for younger black leads since then.

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
Agreed, I do think Y&R’s issues are easily fixable, but no one seems to care and the people there just seem to be using the show as a quick paycheck and nothing more. As long as Sony allows Griffith to gain more power and do whatever he wants, and CBS is complacent, nothing is going to change. When is Y&R’s current renewal period with CBS up again? If no changes are made by then, we’ll have to suffer with Griffith until cancellation or until he steps down on his own accord.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
All she’s confirming is that she’s left B&B. She hasn’t responded to Tweets about re-joining GH yet. She may wait until her final B&B script airs to confirm anything.

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
Y&R’s biggest problem is that the show is incapable of actually telling a damn storyline or exploring truly dramatic avenues for whatever they’re dishing out on screen. Y&R is never going back to being in Bell’s style unfortunately - I think the most we can hope for at this point is at least they can find people who can tell actual, decently plotted stories (even if they’re generic and old-fashion).

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
It will either take a significant ratings decline or a prominent cast member shading the writing in the media for any real change to happen. But they’ll be in denial about any ratings decline anyway. At this point, they probably don’t have anyone else who wants to run this show either. Options are now limited in the recycled pool daytime picks from. Perhaps they need to hire an EP from outside of daytime, maybe one that comes from film or independent film and pair him/her/them with a new Head Writer - or a pair of Co-HW’s (one also from outside of daytime and one from “the system”). This show is just in dire need of a creative change and shift.

Paramount Plus: Fraiser sequel picked up to series
Here's hoping for some better showrunners then...

Y&R: February 2024 Discussion Thread
Since CBS fired Angelica McDaniel and folded their daytime operations into other existing operations, it seems like the soaps are no longer being micromanaged and they’ve become very complacent. This show needs a drastic shakeup. Josh Griffith has been boring and tanking this ship for years at this point. What will it take for Sony to finally admit this and fire him?
