  1. Joan Collins was born in May 1933, and JEH was born in November 1957. Michael Nader was born in February 1945, so it's kind of surprising that they were both up for the same role.

Joan was 24 years older than JEH.

Michael Nader was 12 years older than JEH. MN pops in a lot of the old 60's beach movies and had a recurring role on Gidget with Sally Field.

I have been watching S3 on DVD. Joseph always gave me the creeps. He looks like a back from the dead corpse lurking around and also looks like he's about to burst out laughing in a lot of scenes. I guess it would be hard to keep a straight face for some of those plot lines. I watched the episode yesterday where Claudia is giving her farewell to everyone in the Carrington mansion and puts on her mink stole carrying the stuffed dog down the stairs. I was howling with laughter at how campy.

  2. I seem to remember reading that the Y&R staff got memos from the censors to tone Jack's sexual antics down a bit when Terry Lester was in the role. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?

I don't know if that's true about the memo, but he was always in bed with someone. Look how many women he slept or flirted with and the women who were obsessed with him. Lindsey Wells obsessed over him and Carol had a crush on him.

  3. They got pretty close to it Chris certainly didn't totally discourage him. In fact I think if Chris had been kept on she would have been one of his conquests.

That would have been surprising and out of character Chris, but being married to a dillweed like David Hasselhoff's Snapper, she probably needed some excitement in her life.

If Jack had succeded, he would have bedded two Brooks sisters. When JLB came back in 2002, Jack claimed to have asked Lorie to the prom in high school. I feel that was a rewrite, since I don't remember if Jack & Lorie had that backstory when Terry Lester came on in 1980.

  4. I agree that Steven was annoying after JC assumed the role. As has been said before, Jon Erik Hexum was made for a Spelling show.

I wonder how Jon Erik would have transistioned into the 90's as an actor ? He has such a classic clean cut preppy 80's look that would have seen backlash in the grungy 90's.

  5. Who wasn't that guy after back then??? LOL

LOL...That's true. Jack also flirted with Julia Newman and slept with Peggy Brooks. He knew Nikki early on, but I don't know when and how they met. I was just a kid then and they were already hanging out as early as 1982.

  6. Chris does look like she is getting married. She says I do and has a man in a suit standing next to her. Must have been some sort of wedding layout maybe and it reminded her of Snapper. It may have been why she chose to quit Jabot and head to England.

When Chris was working at Jabot, didn't Jack start sniffing around in hopes of bedding her ?

  7. I think that's the first time I ever saw the Laurence mother and daughter (Liz Keifer with all that hair! She was right to cut it).

Is that Cindy with Paul? And some other woman I don't know.

That Jill/John makeout session looked trashy. I'd expected something more glamorous.

Terry Lester in a waiscoat = thank you.

I guess this is when Paul was pretending to be bad (and that's why Mary was devastated)?

Was Chris crying happy tears or sad tears?

I keep wondering what Brenda Jill and Andy would have been like together.

I really want to see more of Deborah's Jill and Katherine together. Deborah is much tougher looking physically than Brenda or Jess, although she seems to play the role more sympathetically.

    Why was Katherine weeping?

The blonde chic with Cindy & Paul was Pam. She wound up dead. I remember her for some reason and the scene where they looked at her body in the morgue.

I don't know why Chris was crying, she could have been happy modeling for Jabot, or maybe this is when Snapper left for London without her. Lynn Topping was a pretty woman, but Trish Stewart was gorgeous.

I wonder if Katherine was weeping because she failed at stopping John from marrying Jill ? I remember seeing the scene where she tried to make Jill look bad in front of John and her party guests by bringing up Phillip. Her boy toy Cash was killed in 82, but this looks to be all from late in the year around the John/Jill marriage.

Bill Bell lost interest in Leslie after Lorie was gone. He wrote her out along with Robert and his family quickly. Liz Keifer said in an interview that she was thrilled to be on Y&R at this time and assumed a 3 year contract, meant a 3 year contract. Reality soon hit when dropped from the show.

Always great see Lilibet Stern.I consider her the true Patty Williams. Andrea Evans and that crazy cat freak don't even register with me. Danny was always so sissy to me.

  8. Oddly enough all of Eileen's Y&R covers from this era seemed to be with very short-lived love interests.

I know. 1982-85 she had several short lived romances that went nowhere till she was paired up with ole Prune Puss. I wonder if Eileen even remembers Jay Kerr ot his character Brian Forbes ?

  9. Ahhh, OK. It just seems like he's not heard from much, so maybe that's why.

I thought he was off the show since he is never seen or talked about. I wonder if he is semi-retired or maybe he is having health issues.

  10. Gray Bunny, the show is Franklin & Bash - on TNT. She's not on it anymore.

SoapDope - I don't think we'll ever again see the opulence that was the 80s. Kind of sad, isn't it?

It is sad that we will never see it again. The 80's was the last great decade in my opinion.

  11. Weirder things have happened!! Rod Arrants IS still acting, albeit mostly in regional theater in the San Francisco area, but who knows? If the offer and circumstances were right, maybe he could be lured back onto a soap.

I'm surprised he hasn't been back on a soap for years. When Ashley was on B&B, they should have brought him on as a love interest for her. Maybe he could have played Eric's brother, which would be funny since Barbara Crampton (Leanna Y&R) played Eric's brothers ex wife Maggie. This could have reunited all 3 actors in a storyline.

  12. I think the ones for John Forsythe, Linda Evans and Joan Collins were perfect: Blake sitting behind his desk in his office, Krystle coming down the stairs in a beautiful gown and Alexis lounging in a bubble bath. Some of the others, like the aforementioned bow tie and light switch, were just unintentionally hilarious.

LOL.....I know. Dynasty just screams 80's camp. Boy do I miss those days.

I don't think we will see a return to that glamour, preppy style. People have devolved and aspire to look like Duck Dynasty, than Dynasty.

  13. He was killed off in three roles that I know of - Travis on SFT, Richard on DAYS and Steven on Y&R (though in the case of Travis, I believe it was his choice to leave the show. The other two, I don't know). On DAYS, he mainly interacted with Deidre Hall/Marlena. With Eileen Davidson now back as Kristen, maybe they could resurrect Richard and give Marlena and Kristen another man to deal with.

I would like to see Rod and Eileen together again. They could pull out the old soap ploy and say Steven Lassiter had a twin or bring him back as a new character like they did Grant Cramer and Quinn Redeker. Which reminds me, Rod was on Y&R in the early 70's as Jeff the stable boy that Katherine was screwing. So if he came back, that would make 3 times he has been on Y&R.

  14. It makes me sick to think of the tons of lost film and TV. Nearly all of the programming from the now defunct Dumont network was dumped in the east river in the 70's.

Daytime TV has suffered the most when it comes to destroyed, wiped or lost footage. I read NBC kept wiping programming till the early 80's. A lot of people have speculated that most of Sale Of The Century's run has been lost except what episodes are airing on GSN. These same episodes are the ones USA reran in the 90's.

I don't even have to mention all the lost soap footage. Another World is a prime example of tape wiping.

  15. Oh, wouldn't it have been incredible if Sherry had worked with Nelson Riddle and others of his ilk? Maybe gone back to the stage and headlined Broadway musicals had she lived?

Going back to the scene where she is singing, notice how Rod Arrants as Travis is looking at Sherry's Liza with such love in his eyes. Then when she bolts from the piano bench after trying to give her a kiss, she has her arms up as if trying to hide. When he asks, "Liza, why are you trying to run from me?", his voice is so gentle and still hurt. I think had I been a soap fan at that time (they started on SFT around the same time I was born!) - I would have been a Travis fan and not a Luke Spencer fan. (The soap mags and books were always comparing the two around that time.)

It's a shame Rod Arrants isn't on a soap today as the patriarch of a major family. He would certainly be a major asset to any program. But with the state of the few soaps still on the air, maybe it's best that he isn't on a soap now.

I remember when Rod was on Y&R in the late 80's as Ashley's first husband Dr. Steven Lassiter. I was shocked when they killed him off. A few years ago I read an interview with Eileen Davidson and she was asked who in the past had she worked with that she missed and would like to work with again and she said "Rod Arrants". She and Rod stay in touch.

  16. Peggy was on until maybe Sep/Oct 1981. After the cult story she was to wed Steve Williams but stood him up, she had a flirtation with Jack (not sure if they hit the sheets) Not sure if she got a proper send off but after Steve left town Peggy didn't do much. Jerry Lacy was similar the character just stopped airing, he said his last air date was Dec 15th 1981 but his character never had a send off.

Greg seemed to be most active under Wings Hauser, odd they replaced him with Howard McGillan, not only was he the youngest to play Greg and Wings was the oldest, but Wings looked much older than the other Greg's and Howard looked too young, would be curious to see the switch as apparently Wings was off the show by Oct/Nov 81 and Howard was on within the month, must have been a big shock to viewers to have Greg change so much physically.

I wonder if Nikki interacted much if at all with Howard McGillin's Greg onscreen. I have an old 1982 Soap Digest that has a pic of Howard & Melody posing together at a cast party. It appears that HG was a throwback to resemble James Houghton.

I seem to remember (as a 4/5 year old) by the time Nikki hooked up with Victor, they didn't talk about Nikki's first marriage to Greg.
