I think Guza was weirdly into Alaska for some reason because remember Jax's Australian parents had a homestead there too where Jerry/Jax were mostly raised? There was absolutely no plot related reason for that lol.

Claire really didn't have a story post-breakup. She vowed revenge and sort of lingered for way too long and made a few appearances. Salem was annoying on GH too. She started out okay, but nothing special. I do imagine it's tough for a sane actress to pretend to want to have Sonny's child on purpose though. Hannah Scott aka Mrs. Jonathan Jackson was also shipped off to Alaska as well so I guess that's a place where Sonny's failed exes get sent?

I don't even think Dahlia Salem was supposed to be a backup for Brenda. It was insanely out of character for Claire. She hated Sonny until Vanessa decided to return and then she hooked up with Sonny and wanted to have a baby with him. I don't know...I think it was to set up conflict, but Brenda didn't care at all and her and Claire never had scenes and nothing really happened with Claire's revenge plot. Claire got reassigned to Alaska so it didn't work out that well. DS probably wishes she was fired in the makeup chair lol. I agree Anna was refreshing addition to the canvas at the time. Finola is awesome, no doubt, but it was definitely good casting and the right type of angst for Robert/Holly.

Claire was the lawyer lady that I believe you are talking about. They slept together a few times and he took her to the island and immediately broke up with her when he found out Brenda was in town. I have no idea what the point was of the whole thing because it amounted to nothing. Sonny/Olivia were a pairing briefly. She got shot and it was indirectly Carly's fault, but Olivia and Sonny broke up after that. I don't recall why, but I don't really care lol. They weren't awful together or anything. Regarding Robert/Anna I think there is a difference between two good screen partners and actual romantic chemistry. I do think Robert/Holly had more romantic chemistry, but I don't really like Holly and haven't for years. I know it's not her fault, but I think there is something more respectful, honest, and long lasting between Robert/Anna. Emma Samms is charismatic and delightful but the hatchet job that character endured is hard to come back from.

I really liked IR and LW together. As a Jax/Brenda fan I still thought it was a good pairing although I side eyed Carly a lot. I also think Jax was an adult who was aware of what it would be like to commit to one of Sonny's exes. I would consider Jax/Carly more popular than any pairings Sonny had at the time. I honestly wouldn't hate if they were endgame, but I assume they will either recast Jax or kill him off at some point. I like Robert/Anna better than Robert/Holly and I have said that more than once worried about backlash lol. I don't really think they were that popular, but over time it seems like soap press, polls, general musings, etc hold Robert/Anna up as a supercouple.

I think you can make an argument for Jason, but I don't know if any of his pairings were "supercouples" exactly. Robin/Jason come the closest, IMO, but 3 very successful pairings and he probably would have been quite popular with Brenda as well.

I think it's especially difficult for a character that had 2 supercouple pairings (I know Robert/Anna is debatable) to have any other pairing memorable or accepted even if they weren't half bad. Holly was gone but Anna was still around and I assume the popularity of that pairing was enough to ignore any other pairing unless it was absolutely standout. Lightning can strike twice, but is there any character on GH that had 3 super popular pairings? Robin is the only one I can think of and by that time supercouples were on their way out.

Yeah, that's flimsy af. The man's been shot a million times, was paralyzed, presumed dead more than once, and has a long history of mental illness, but he's weak and unstable now because he might have to take some pills for his heart and quit drinking so much lol?

I admittedly had GH on in the background yesterday while doing something else but I am confused as to why Sonny needs to leave the business now. One Dr. told him his heart was bad at the Gym. I know most people want Sonny to croak here, but shouldn't he go to the hospital and get some tests done, some medicine, a second opinion before just handing the business over? There have been about a million other better reasons for Sonny to leave the mob and he didn't so I am a bit confused at his line of thinking here.

I know Katherine is a fairly common name, but it is a bit strange GH used the same name and spelling for two different characters only a few years apart. Also why is she at the gym of all places selling magazines lol? Was that a popular thing in the late 80's? I have heard a lot of people actually liked Katherine and Katherine/Robert. I found Edie Lehmann lacked charisma or an it factor. I know EL is more a musician than an actress and Katherine was mostly an okay character-I just find her very forgettable.

Even if Beth Ehlers had a legitimate beef with Pratt, what did JR have to do with it? IIRC, that pairing was actually pretty well received at the time. BE effectively ruined her chance on AMC and her career with her mean girl antics and delusions of grandeur. I know most everyone on this board loves Sarah Joy Brown, but she's struggled to find a popular role post-Carly. I think she's talented and a lot of it was down to writing, but it's a bit shocking she's had no luck finding a solid long term role post GH (round 1).

Johnny's misdeeds have been very low stakes so far (besides being the devil). IIRC, according to Allie he was a jerk and womanizer but he quickly got neutered to be a decent guy. I think Ron and co have no idea what to do with Johnny and, well, Carson Boatman is pretty limited in his acting skills. I still think you could make Johnny into a villain or at least more grey of a character with proper writing. Hmm..I consider Chad the nice Dimera lol.

Oh, yeah. Probably looking to hype up NS. It was used in their promos, but it wasn't really much of a story. I don't think a spin off on Soapnet would lure Vanessa back in 2007/8 lol. She's not ASJ lol. I don't think it was serious, but paved the way to explain a recast if that need ever became a true priority for the main show and GH couldn't get Vanessa back. I know it be the very last resort for Guza though. It's been so long since I've seen Night Shift, but I think they left that character in a cliffhanger. She was never spoken of again though. Season 2 ignored that completely.

Yeah, I recall that whole story on NS. The woman had the same tattoo and was really interested in what Jason was doing. I wonder where they were going with that. I think Las Vegas was still airing so I don't imagine Vanessa was interested in anything more than a cameo. So I would assume they were testing the idea of a recast with the major burns and all.

I agree especially since Joy told Alex the same story a few weeks ago according to Alex. No offense to Joy or Johnny, but they don't seem smart enough to coordinate fake stories if they got caught lol Allie, Sami, Tripp/Wendy, EJ vs. Paulina etc. Even the baby Chanel lost possibly having birth defects would have been a story if she was able to continue the pregnancy. They both get a lot of airtime, but they end up with plot points and no long term story.

They did. They used that boat scene with Luke and the outdoor tram scene with Sonny/Brenda for a decade. To be fair, it looks cool and it's sort of hard to make out who is in the scenes so I suppose GH didn't care.

Characters names are the only thing relevant so I'd drop the actor name if it were me. That's what end credits are for, but I think other soaps were doing actors names in the opening so GH just followed suit. I'll have to look up the FOTH opening with names. I am having a hard time picturing it right now. ETA-I just looked at the 2004 opening with the names. It doesn't bother me. The fact they use a PR location scenes from 10 years ago and the same couples insert with different couples make it feel like a lazy update though.

Haha! I liked it. The graphics were a little strange and didn't correlate to the characters sometimes, but I appreciate the names of the characters and actors on there. Honestly, I could use that now for frame of reference for this huge cast we have today. This current opening feels like I going to get a seizure while watching the bright pictures flash by. I am all for redoing FOTH wit Dave Koz's version. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to replicate or that difficult to add or subtract a character either.

I loved the original FOH opening. I guess it could be considered dated, but I would take it back today. I disliked the one after where the men were all sitting in the chairs and by the end like half of them were dead but still in the opening. This was the last halfway decent opening and I think it looks cool even if I don't understand why the ambulance at the end is about to run someone down. I am sure it's much too expensive for today's budget though.

I think Johnny/Chanel struggle with the loss of LA/Allie from the canvas. Allie would always be an easy way to cause issues for the couple even if it wasn't a love triangle. The show doesn't seem to know what to do with this couple and they keep getting stories that go nowhere.

It's funny seeing Jagger living in that cabin for awhile. Was ASJ filming something else? It seemed pretty ridiculous and most of the time people just came to visit him. It may have been the story plan but it seemed weird for him to be in a entirely different location away from everyone else.

No problem! Clearly my most prized possessions are my Brenda edits lol so once I have a date it takes me only a few minutes to look up on my laptop. They also celebrated Lulu's 4th birthday on Aug 10 1998 if anyone is wondering. Shell and Lynn do look a lot alike in this episode. I never really noticed that before. I am always shocked to see that opening in 1993, but I am pretty sure Faces of the Heart becomes the opening on the anniversary that year so it's updated soon.

I think she revealed her age when she was talking to Jax in either 1996 or 1998. I want to say 1998 to gear up for Veronica's return, but Brenda did talk to Jax a lot about her family. ETA-GH wiki said she died when Brenda was 4 and it was revealed on Aug 10 1998. I would have to look that episode up, but my memory was probably just off by a year in my head* The tale of Veronica was a bit expanded on through the years and the circumstances were murky. She left Harlan then "died", I believe, and she was a drinker but more eccentric than an addict. I got the impression that some of this was in Brenda's head as far as Julia's mom vs. hers and Harlan did love Veronica and was extremely upset she left. Apparently Veronica was much younger and a free spirit and was stifled by Harlan and a young child. What her illness played into this is unclear at least to me because a lot of this was said by Veronica herself and she was clearly an unreliable narrator. Harlan loving Julia more than Brenda appears to be true, but I think the reasons aren't exactly what Brenda or Julia thought they were. As I said, this is not one of my favorite stories so I tend to fast forward or skip some of 1998 Veronica scenes because she just annoys me. *Veronica says Brenda was 4 when she was presumed dead on the French Riviera to Jax to prove her identity in that episode and Jax seems to accept this answer so I am going to assume that's correct. Luckily it was at the beginning of the episode so I didn't have to watch a full hour of Veronica lol.
