I feel like Carly/Sonny were both fairly judged for their actions in that time period. I do feel like during the first part of Brenda's return that vulnerability was there in Carly too. Even if it was in a loud mouth center of attention way it showed insecurity in Carly that we rarely see. There was a scene where Robin and Brenda were talking trash about her where she was listening (at Jason's house uninvited, naturally) and LW's Carly got teary eyed listening to them and left and I thought that was so different for her. Ingo aside, I don't think Carly is wrong about Jax/Alexis. I used to think Alexis did love Jax in that way, but it just never happened. And I was so glad people like Robin and Alexis were standing up for Jax because it was so long since anyone had told Sonny or Carly that they were wrong almost always about him.

I feel like I can give my impression of how I felt back then and would probably feel differently about the material now. You have to remember I was in a deep depression over the Queen's botched return and departure, so nothing would please me. I just don't feel a lot of desire to revisit that time because I can't really think of anything I liked aside from specific scenes. The only happy couple I remember during that period was Jasam and then she gets assaulted on her honeymoon.

Didn't they show the missing Tequila high up on a shelf in editing? I promise I am not an idiot, but I watch these shows while working on my computer and sometimes miss things. I kept thinking Pepsi was going to find it, but the whole thing went on an entire episode. The type of tequila Gizelle had wasn't even close to the most expensive bottle they make either lol. This isn't a college frat party. These girls have endless choices for alcohol. No one would steal it. Along with Leah passing out with her period and diarrhea and no underwear, this was by far the worst episode of Girls Trip.

That's a great Alexis/Carly scene. Carly being her delusional worst and Alexis actually getting to call her on it. Like I said I did like GW's stuff at first. There is a scene where Sonny is off his meds, bedraggled and sitting on a stoop and a man walks by a puts change in his coffee like he's homeless and that absolutely cracked me up and I still remember it to this day even though it had no bearing on anything. It was just a silly little scene where we got to see Sonny as a loser and that was a change. Anyhow, I agree there was a lot more character development, but not a ton of movement and it got a little dull to me after a bit. Maybe it was too much of a change after Guza. I honestly don't think he got enough time to execute his vision, but GH didn't have time.

I am sure Ron did, but he cares so little about Belle he only thought the Sami part through lol

I really wish Gladys would leave. I am indifferent to Sasha and I guess Cody needs to be paired with someone.

My thought was that Ron lost interest when Ali wasn't available and he wanted a Sami/Belle/EJ story. I get the feeling Ron really only sees Belle as useful when she's playing off Jan or Sami

At least Jada referred to Shawn as hunky yesterday lol. I am not sure Shawn/Belle are even talk tos. Some days they just pop up and then are put back in the closet. I am still so confused as to why they started EJ/Belle and then completely dropped it and they have never shared scenes again lol

I don't know about firing her and don't really care, but she certainly wasn't necessary at the ball. I know Sasha helped plan it, but if she came down with a cold or something and had to miss it no one would notice. And they could avoid this. Unless the Gladys stuff is coming to a head, which, yeah, I still don't care.

I used to side eye GH for using AT's Emily so much in these Balls, but she is so much better than EM. I'll leave KA out of this because I have no nice comments about her singing either😂. The material Joss/Trina were given didn't help considering it's a very popular current song sung by a much better singer. Songs they have used in the past like Big Spender, Diamonds are a girls best friend, or Girls just want to have to Fun were much easier vocal choices for the non-singers of the groups. Leave the Midnight Train to Georgia's to Rosalind Cash. Not that I am comparing Maren Morris to Gladys Knight🤣, but an ensemble song from Grease might have been a little more doable for McCoy. I cut GH a little slack here. HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, fundraising, etc isn't as topical as it was in the 90's and the farther we move away from Robin being on the show and frankly watching her deal with it the less relevant it has become to the current canvas and characters. We end up with Anna mentioning Robin and Sonny talking to a bunch of people that didn't know Stone about his illness and death. I almost wondered if when it was relaunched by Ron if they should have dropped the AIDS fundraising aspect and just made it a Gala for hospital funding, but Robin had just "died" so it made sense to keep the theme. The true poignancy and urgency among the characters to find a cure and treatment and doing things like bringing John Hanley to speak or showing the AIDS quilt was lost years ago. It's the Nurses Ball's cause truly in name only. I personally would have made this years celebration about the hospital's 60th and funding in general and dropped the HIV/AIDS portion although I know that would have angered a lot of people.

I think you are correct about Frank/Ron making this a thing. Outside of Ned and Ricky Martin doing some of their own songs, I believe the Nurses Ball pretty much always used classic songs from movies, or Broadway, or just songs most of the audience would be familiar with. Frank needs to understand the Glee moment has passed and it's just weird to have Trina and Joss sing that song for no reason. That Nurses Ball opening and the marching with that posing choreography was absolutely embarrassing. @AMCHistoryI think Chase would be the #2 singer in this group although I think a lot of the nurses in the opening number have good voices. That's why they get to appear once a year. Speaking of Nurses that appear once a year, Amy looked lovely in her dress. Why on earth couldn't they put Maxie in that instead of a sparkly blazer. She's hosting the freakin show in an ugly jacket and casual pants.

I just looked it up lol. At least Carly had the good sense to interrupt lol. Her love of exposing secrets in public came in handy there. It was rough. I don't even remember him with Liz in 2015. I don't get the random use of pop songs/characters. Even today I was wondering why Joss/Trina were singing a pop song from 5 years ago that had no correlation to them, the cause, or anything going on at the moment. Listen, I know everyone loves it and it's fine, but it's been full of questionable acts since its inception. It just used to look like an actual production. Now the tables are so small 3 people are crammed into it and my high school had a much more sophisticated lighting and stage area.

Alan definitely opened it in 1996 and 1997, but I think in 1998 he was in the midst of his drug addiction and couldn't do his song with Robin, so it probably was someone else. I remember a montage of arrivals showing off the fashion and maybe a red carpet, but not actual interviews. It was never an Oscar style entrance even if there were gossip reporters asking Sonny questions or something. I dislike Valentin strongly, but I feel like I would be less disappointed in him if he wasn't hyped up to be the scariest, most dangerous Cassadine. I don't like him and Anna at all. They might have chemistry, but I feel like he's too wimpy for Anna. I genuinely think she could kick his ass.

I don't remember the Nurses opening the Nurse's Ball in the 90's. I believe it was Alan opening it quite a few times. I can't with Valentin singing and those weepy songs.

Why is everyone wearing the same dress or style? Did I miss the theme announcement? I assume I did because all the dresses are so similar and half the fun for me used to see what people were wearing. I don't think the acts are better or worse than they've always been, but I feel bad they drag certain actors out once a year to sing and dance and put those nurses back in the closet for the rest of the year. It definitely used to look much more professional.

It was a narrative started pre-Carly though. It started with Ned/Lois and Lois being afraid to raise her child in that world which I never really got either, but Rena was leaving. It obviously got worse once Jason had his accident and everything that happened after that, but it was always a little strange to me. Also agree 100% about Emily. She is an ungrateful brat that should be a lot more thankful to the wealthy family that took her in when she was a literal orphan out of the kindness of their hearts.

Lilly Melgar and Lisa Vultaggio were pretty short, but yeah. I think the show (and Mo) used to be a little more conscious of his height when pairing him back in the day or just super focused on hiring Brenda bots. Either way lol. It does look like CW intentionally slouches when she's with him and LW did that as well.

Oh, he's definitely showing his age in the last few years. Ever since his Mike phase, but that's a bad picture with that weird facial expression as well. MB has always been noticeably short IMO. If you really think about it only a handful of his love interests have really been shorter than him-even the first two Carlys were creeping up on being the same height as him in heels.

Thanks for that really interesting deep dive into AJ. I don't really have a clear view of AJ before Sean Kanan, so I enjoyed you breaking it down so clearly. Was AJ de-aged in your opinion with SK? He seems to have lived quite a bit, but didn't seem that much older than the teen group and mostly interacted with them. +1 There was so much potential even with Ned/Julia/AJ triangle and then she got canned. Not to mention all the things she could have done with Brenda.

I remember liking Joanna, and it's been years since I watched her Miami seasons, but something about the sister and the fiance/husband at the time creeped me out. The whole dynamic was so weird. It also felt like Joanna was the main character in those seasons and she's like the least interesting lol, but I didn't dislike her.

Well I agree with you there. There has to be a way Days can figure out how to use guarantees and not have stories start and then completely stall out. I also feel like this has been a problem for a long time and never really improves. I do think the production of the Beyond Salem stuff is better than the regular Salem stuff happening. But there is no excuse for Marlena's house having audio issues the other day and Sloane's having issues today.

Yes! I remember the headlines GH used in the 90's were hilarious. The one with Lily dying was something similarly direct like "MOB BOSS'S PREGNANT WIFE DEAD" next to a glamour shot of Lilly Melgar🤣 I can understand the people on GH are possibly famous/infamous on the town, but where is the Nurse's Ball airing? It can't be on National TV. I just assume it's on some public access channel lol.

I barely made it through the 90's with John/Marlena lol. The two years it took them to get married after they reunited almost did me in-and then he slept with Hope/Gina on his honeymoon---but that's another topic 😂 The pacing is weird right now though. You will see some stories disappear for long periods. JER's pacing was much more formulaic. You would see certain stories M,W, F and the b stories T, TH unless the story was reaching it's climax. I actually don't think the Bo/Hope story is moving too slowly either. I just don't like it or get it yet, but I am sure it will unfold eventually.
