General Hospital: April 2023 Discussion Thread
It's too bad Vanessa didn't stay and all that so Sonny/Brenda could have tried to be adults in an actual marriage. I can see how Ned/Lois and Jax/Brenda were appealing to people and they were to me too. Sonny/Brenda were a lot especially as a kid. I, of course, loved it even as a youngster, but there is a lot of darkness in that relationship that I see now. It's almost strange how GH focuses on so many leading men with such troubling pasts (Jason, Sonny, Luke).

I guess the Spencer family likes fire to soothe their rage? When Sonny and Brenda were in that condemned area and Sonny explained the whole issue with Luke's I actually thought the show might bring it back in some form, but it was completely dropped. And of course, it looked absolutely nothing like Luke's Club actually ever did, fire or not, so I could see how you could be confused when watching. I don't even know if Luke actually even owned the building before he burnt it down. I think Sonny always did lol.

Luke burned it down (off screen) years ago. Sonny and Brenda were hanging out in its charred out hallways 12 years ago lol and Sonny said Luke torched it after Laura got sick. Ava just explained they rebuilt it which they seemed to be in the process of when Sonny and Brenda were spending hours in the old apartment. The important fact is that it originally was Sonny's strip club The Paradise Lounge.

Labine was very good at creating and cultivating friendships. Lois/Brenda/Robin, Lucy/Bobbie/Felicia, etc got scenes where they were hanging out just having fun and talking about their lives. It helped bring perspective to their romantic relationships as well. I got the sense that Stone/Robin/Brenda/Lois/Sonny liked being around each other. Not that they were placed in scenes to tell the audience how good of friends they are without showing it. I don't know why soaps dropped the friendship relationships or made them so one sided (see Joss/Trina). When I look back at my favorite scenes of GH in the 90's I could tell you a bunch of Sonny/Brenda/Jax scenes, but also tons of Robin/Brenda and Lois/Brenda scenes or Sonny/Stone scenes. There is a lack of community in GH today. The only relationships that matter seem to be family and romance like you said. The only real friendship I feel on GH is Alexis/Diane and sometimes Ava/Nina and that takes a backseat to everything else going on in their lives.

I don't disagree, but I think these three girls have been given such dark material for months/years. I am on record not being a big fan of any of them and Willow is by far my least favorite, but Sasha and Willow have all this horrible stuff happen to them and they don't have any fun or levity in their lives. Plus the friendship is not very authentic. It's not Brenda/Robin or Liz/Emily bonding. These girls have very little history and have very little in common aside from being very pretty white girls. I would at least have investment in Serena and Christina here.

I know nothing about production, but I wonder if it's something that happens in editing? Because on those Sloan/Eric scenes their audio seemed to be behind as well. It didn't match their mouths lol. Not that any of this makes it acceptable, but it seems like it's not confined to one set.

I find Eric/Sloan scenes or scenes in Sloan's apartment have the same issue sometimes. Not as if that's helpful, but I have noticed sound problems there too.

They don't even have to be creative lol. They always show the same scenes anyway, but the vets could have recalled certain events that correlated with the ball. There could have been montages of Nurses Balls past when Bobbie was talking. When Mac/Felicia were talking about previous acts they could have shown them. It's just disappointing. I would have taken a lot less musical acts and auto tune and had the show spend the money on showing old clips instead.

DEAD. But true........ I appreciate making it an event, but the actual day should have had a montage even if it was after the show as a stand alone as they have done in some years. It seems lazy. Tell the stories you want in the time you want, but just pay the 20 or so actors their residuals and give us a 1 min montage before the credits.

I can't even comment on Valentin. What was even going on with that acting? And is that a new Charlotte? I honestly get Violet and Charlotte mixed up because.....Idk why? They are both unimportant to me, but that Charlotte looked like a teenager and I thought she was younger lol. The only thing I did like was Spencer realizing he was in way over his head. NC did a good job today.

Willow is so lame she missed Magic Milo? The only entertaining part of the Nurses Ball? Of course she would lol... Drew finally showed up. @AMCHistoryThere was no finale of the Nurses Ball. No montage, no flashbacks. It was a really disappointing anniversary. Even in Gh's darkest days we always got a montage for major anniversaries. WK and LLC made an appearance. With or without lines they get paid since they are recurring. I assume they had some lines and they got cut or something.

Very true. SBu is just a little more publicly obnoxious lol. But you know we both have a little bit of a soft spot for him🤷♀️🤣

Lol! It was a nice act. I like Johnny, but Tripp is the catch here. I have always thought Steve had more range than what he was given as Jason. Even when he played comedy with Spinelli and Brenda, you could tell Steve had ability outside the stone cold persona and he once again proves he can generate chemistry with his leading ladies. Idk, he's probably not the greatest guy, but he is a decent soap actor.

I agree and it always seemed like such an odd pairing. Given Victor's choices for partners over the years, I have a hard time imagining him going for someone like Caroline. And by all accounts, Shawn was a good husband and father. Very scandalous! I also agree Kayla's reaction was a little odd, but considering the words were about two actors that have passed away, I'll give her leeway. This seems to be filmed right around the time JA died. I also think it might be sad or bittersweet to hear someone profess their undying love to your mother even if that man is Victor.

Bo is the youngest of the Brady kids. I know you don't wish Tripp was related to you lol I liked Hope/Harris today too. They really do have chemistry. I think Steve is doing a good job with this character. It was a little too Jason Morgan lite at first, but he's definitely doing more now. I liked Marlena's outfit today. She should dress like that more often. Much more flatter than her usual suits. Good episode today!

Or just let Ned sing instead? Tracy hasn't returned yet.

I am on the West Coast and don't usually watch the uploads on daily basis (more a few at a time), but wanted to watch GH yesterday and I don't even think it was up by midnight last night and sometimes it's up at 4 pm lol. Today it was up pretty timely. I don't know the schedule hulu tries to follow, but I have never noticed an issue until yesterday. The random lawyer turned singer did have a lovely voice, but I had no idea if she was connected to the show or they just found her or if she was somehow famous in some way I wasn't aware of. It was such a strange waste of like 10 minutes of an episode. GH can't afford a stage so I doubt they could afford a "name". Maybe beg Ricky Martin for a favor lol?

I am pretty sure Carly changed it on her Eat, Pray, Love journey to Jacksonville a while back. It was mentioned on screen for sure. She did originally go by Carly Roberts when she came to town. I have always liked the Sonny/Lucy friendship too. Lucy does well with male friendships. I liked her/Luke too.

She did, but Obrect had some medicine in her system that needed to be cleared out before her donation (or something like that) and then she got kidnapped at the ball, so it's all up in the air now for Willow. It sounds like good drama, but anything involving Willow is not.

He's at home watching it with dying Willow. It's a storyline related thing.

I actually noticed Michael's absence too and I don't particularly like CD or Michael at all, but he was an OG dorky part of this act and I did miss him a bit.

Hulu uploaded yesterday's GH really late and I am watching it now. Seriously, who was that Danielle lady? Is she just a very nice singer or someone actually appearing on GH?

I don't think we are supposed to think Bo is Thomas Banks in disguise. Although Thomas did "die" on screen Megan called him today and ask him to track down Bo. So I guess the Bo we are seeing could be Thomas and the real Bo is somewhere else but........that hurts my head to think about. I think Thomas is Thomas and Bo is Bo lol.

Writing them off back then was probably the best idea. Personally, while your story sounds good, it seems like way too much effort to keep the Sasha character around when she doesn't serve a purpose. Gladys bleeding Sasha dry seems like another dark arc for the character of Sasha who hasn't caught any breaks. Sasha seems fine now and I am sure her conservatorship will end soon. I don't particularly like the idea of Nina mothering another grown ass woman. There are plenty of legacy characters that can fill the void of Sasha (Serena, Christina (Lucy's other daughter), Sean/Tiffany's daughter, etc.) or they could bulk up Kristina or Molly's roles or bring Lulu back. I don't even dislike Sasha, but I don't see an argument to keep her around besides "she sucks less than Willow".

It probably was that scene because I think it was Sonny/Brenda wedding related and Robin/Brenda were pretty mean. But then Carly actually interrupted the wedding, tried to humiliate the bride and son of the groom, and then plopped her ass down and ate cake and danced with Edward at the reception so the self loathing was short lived.🤷♀️ I liked Ned/Alexis actually. It got silly quickly, but I thought they were a good match. I was definitely game for Jax/Alexis during their marriage, but I think Ingo was still considered the hot hunk of a certain age and NLG probably wasn't in the right demographic for a pairing for him at the time.
