Days of Our Lives: October 2023 Discussion Thread
I agree she was miscast as a Dr from the start and didn't get much better. Perhaps if they just had her as a med student for a while and let her grow into the role? Even though I made fun of Talia a lot, I still thought she had potential. Something had to change quickly because they dropped her/Chanel and her a hospital job after a day and was out the door so fast. Was the actress/character poorly received? It seems like on here most people were at least willing to give her a chance. Certainly not near the top of the list of people that need to go.

That's probably the right career choice for her. But as far as budget, I don't think she was making much. They did lose Camila and Martha and dumped Nadia and Brandon Beemer and Barash. I think that freed up money as well for Holly/Tate/Greek guy. They were probably just letting her down gently and actually did not like her eyebrow acting is what I am saying..

That line about Ari and offhand wondering if she celebrates Halloween in New Zealand made Gabi seem like she never talks to her own daughter. It's very strange how disconnected Gabi always seems from her child. It's a strange take on a character that was devastated over the fact she couldn't have more children after her jail stint, which Ron wrote as well I think.

I can definitely see why CB left. It's just a distasteful story and I can't imagine why Gabi would even do that for some shares or votes or whatever this is about. She's a mother herself. A bad one, but it doesn't seem in character. It's not even like Stefan/Gabi feel Kristen is a bad mom or are firmly on Brady's side. It's just the only scheme they could think of?

Here's the thing if Ron wants to make a big old parody of a soap he can do that. As long as I know that's what he is going for. It's just the tone of the entire show and even this episode is off. I assume we are supposed to take this Rachel story and the mob stuff seriously. But we have those two idiots running around the square in sheets with Jada/Harris chasing after them. I don't even know how to take that. Even at JER's wackiest he took the show very seriously. I assume JER is Ron's inspiration here, but he is missing the heart of the show with all this.

Sonny and Jason lived across the hall from one another and you'd see them walk across the hall to each other a lot, which makes the door situation even more puzzling. It actually was always curious to me how two penthouses on the same floor in the same building could be laid out so differently. Before Jason I think Katherine Bell lived there. I don't think Alexis ever did. I honestly don't remember Alexis's earliest days that well though so I don't know where she lived. Wyndemere?

I can't figure out any element that make's Sonny's house look like the OG one. Even if we are looking at it at some different angle-nothing is the same. None of these places even look like sprawling penthouses. Not like, say, Marlena's penthouse looked. I really get budget is a thing, but I don't think every house needs to be described as anything other than a house/condo/apartment. I don't even get the concept that you can have multiple penthouses on the same floor. I know it's a thing but I thought it meant that one apartment took up the entire top floor.

The weird art and the door logistically on the wrong side gets me every time!! Just say Sonny got a new place and not act like it's the same one we saw for YEARS. It's the laziness on that for me plus it's super ugly. Can't Ava help him with some decent art? Sonny did have an entire apartment made of chrome with a fish print couch above Luke's, but I was hoping he at least figured out interior design a bit in thirty years.

I understand where you are coming from, but these are two actors who were pretty easily dumped 15 years ago. It could be done again. At a certain point most people will look out for themselves and own families before telling the world about a bad workplace. We have no idea what they did behind the scenes at all. People with much less agency also had a lot less to lose here. Bless, Judi Evans, but she would lose her 4 appearances a month? MM will talk about a job she already vacated and left? I am not praising them for their groundbreaking outspokenness, but it's a slippery slope. They are employed by Days and I am not mad at them for doing promo/interview they probably had to do. I think there are several people to blame in general for this situation continuing as long as it did, but it's not the on-air talent. Listen, maybe it will all be told in the Never Say Never Deidre Hall Story Part 2.......

I dislike it too. I keep thinking it's because I have strong nostalgia for the old days, but a lot of GH sets look flashy and nice at first and then I start to realize they actually look a bit cheap. Days looks cheap cheap. GH seems like they are trying to distract you from the fact they are cheap. Frank's got to do what he's got to do I suppose. I don't think I dislike a set more on soaps than Sonny's new/old penthouse though. I'd rather see the cardboard boxes Days characters live in over that awful decor Sonny is displaying.

I agree with you about EOB as Theresa 100%. You said it well. As far as Deidre and Drake, they have never given any information or interviews that weren't surface level. Maybe Deidre was slightly more willing to in the 80's or 90's, but it does seem like this is going to be the obvious spiel. It may or may not be true, but those two have been toeing the party line for a long time now.

Now I actually googled searched Brandon Barash's wife 😂 She doesn't look super young or anything. I know that means nothing but I was expecting some child bride with these comments 😂 Anyhow, today's show was a chore. I know everyone hates Leo, but GR is a pretty striking looking guy. So is Peter Porte. Noticeable on the streets I'd assume. Does he really expect him and Dmitri to not be noticed by wearing sheets? I know it's Rafe on the case, but c'mon!

I understand what you are saying about Harris/Kate. I think LK just in general seems to play Kate like she's hitting on every man she interacts with that she's not related to, but Kate/Harris is a lot more interesting and natural than Marlena's love of Harris. It's a friendship I understand because I see why Kate likes him.

I am a few days behind on the show because of life things, but I think EOB's wig is much worse than her American accent. She does fine with it IMO. The show can ditch the wig immediately though. I don't think the audience is confused about the fact another actress is playing Theresa. It's clear I am a big fan of Jen Lilley, so I can be biased, but there is something warm and likeable about her Thersea and that's just not the type of character EOB plays well. It's just an ill fit for EOB in general. We are obviously stuck with her, but it really is a baffling decision for the show. I really do think EOB is a good actress and does have charisma and a certain charm, but this character is just not for her.

GH: Classic Thread
I mean, I wish Lily/Miguel were more exciting and that Juan just didn't follow the nature vs. nurture as far as charisma either, but I thought Miguel's actual performance was decent. I wouldn't have predicted Ricky Martin as a Global Superstar, but here we are. I objectively don't think Miguel/Lily are that bad they were just overshadowed by supercouple awesomeness. They clutter up the overall PR vibe, but Lily specifically starts moving the story.

I clearly think Chad checked out years ago, but I do sort of think Michael turned out exactly how his upbringing suggested. If that makes sense? He is always going to hide behind Sonny/Carly because he was indulged his entire life. He was the golden child and he thinks he's tough, but was never taught anything else.

Yeah. It's the total opposite of EOB, GR, RSW, etc that get every chance to show off and be utilized. You end up with a lot of actors/characters you see potential in, but are completely wasted and discarded. It's especially disappointing when it's a young, bisexual, POC that was a Dr, and I would say she's almost a legacy character. Just a waste, but it's Days and they do this all the time.

I sort of found her devastation over Chanel realistic? It wasn't a great romance and the audience didn't love it, but it was important to her. She put herself out there as bisexual for the first time and was so excited that Chanel had feelings for her too and Talia was dumped before it even truly started. Idk, I actually found that really relatable. I honestly don't really care that much about Talia at the end of the day, but I was more interested in her than a lot of other characters pushed on us.
