The 2013 AMC/OLTL Hulu reboots were a wee bit ahead of its time. Yes, you had popular shows solely available through streaming, but even 8 years ago, widespread streaming wasn't as commonplace as it is now. These days, if I forget about viewing a primetime network show (think dramas like This Is Us or A Million Little Things), it's available on Hulu the very next day. Millions of people have become conditioned to streaming versus recording (or watching live, which is practically unheard of nowadays, haha).

It'd be awesome if they tried to reboot a soap again with a stronger production company backing it up. Chances are, Days of Our Lives will become a Peacock or Hulu exclusive show in the next 5 years.

I agree that the AMC/OLTL reboots were a few years ahead of their time. People were freaking out about watching online, and now much of the audience does so for many shows. I think if the shows were cancelled now and then moved online they would have had a much better chance.

I could see DAYS moving online, on Peacock for instance, in some format. It may not be a 5 times a week thing, but it may give the show a chance to reinvent itself.

The actress who originally played Laken was awful. She mumbled her lines and had no pep - just kind of low energy for someone who was one half of a couple that you were supposed to root for. Maybe they were going for someone to balance out eager-beaver Ted, but I think they could have gotten someone who seemed grounded without being a total dud.

I thought Laken #3, Shell Danielson, was quite good, but they struggled writing for her. The struggled writing for all of the Lockridges which I never understood because I thought the family as a whole was quite fun to watch.

This is my reaction too. Which makes me think that people probably have it right to speculate it might have to do with her rather than the show.

I didn't care much for Sarah as a character but I love LG. She gave great life to B&B's Caroline even in the fact of ridiculously inconsistent writing and I hope to see her again on Days or any other show that scoops her (don't get me started on B&B killing her character off off-screen long after she had already been written out but that's another thread).

Killing off the character of Caroline just for a quick plot point was very short-sighted as are most story decisions on B&B.

Wait? What? I actually like her, and she's in a huge story with Xander. I love the two of them together! Why are we losing characters like Jennifer (played by CM) and Sarah, but have characters that are beyond played out (Nicole, Rafe, Chloe) on our screens?

  5. I'm actually enjoying Jackee Harry much more than I thought I would. I love how she says anything and points out how whitewashed Salem is. She manages to crack me up, and that hasn't happened watching this show in a long time. It's great to see more diversity on the show. I wish they would keep Theo full-time no matter who plays him.

I have my suspicions about who she really is to Lani though.

  6. I think when people started changing romantic partners at the blink of the eye often with little motivation is when I began to lose interest after watching for years. For example, we went through the whole Brooke and Thorne relationship which I thought was very good only for her to drop him in a single episode to try and be with Ridge again. We won't even get into the whole Liam and his harem "story."

The show often feels like it has no end game, so you can't get invested in any of the stories.

From what I read around here, it wrecks havoc with Ron Carlivati though.

It's obvious that DAYS actors don't work over their guarantee now which is why stories/characters are dropped for periods of time. It's also why big events such as weddings, holidays leave out certain characters who should be there.

LD as Vivian was...something. She seemed nervous.

The flashbacks made me laugh but I didn’t hate them.

It truly feels like Cady has played Jennifer for years at this point.

It's hard for us to see anyone besides LS as Vivian. But, I loved seeing Linda Dano on my screen again. I do think her more toned down take on the role was better than RS. I'm intrigued to see how she develops once she gets into the hang of the role. I don't think they've mentioned how long she'll actually be around.

So true! Cady doesn't even feel like a recast just a few short months later.

Jack was a little over the top, but I did like the reference to Laura's history...it's not the first time she's kept a HUGE family secret.

Those scenes seemed a little out of character for Maggie, almost as though they were written for Victor but they decided to give them to her

I kinda thought the same thing. I mean Maggie and Bonnie have a history going all the way back to fighting over Mickey. So, it would make sense that Mags will never be a Bonnie fan, but the dialogue seemed much harsher than would come from her.

If Cady wasn’t playing Jennifer I don’t believe we would have gotten those Jennifer/Will scenes.

Good point. Not with Missy Reeves after the Chic-Fil-A debacle! I think we're seeing a lot of different shades with Jennifer that we didn't get before. I hope that continues. For the first time in a LOOOONG time, I'm interested in the character and what she does again.

I'm realllly enjoying seeing the Horton house more. Seeing it feels like old school DAYS in a good way. So nice to see Jennifer have scenes with Lucas, Allie, and Will lately. It helps the Hortons feel like more of an actual family on the show. Although, it would have been great to see Maggie, Shawn, and Lucas at the tree trimming. I wonder if covid played a role this year.

Is there a BTS reason as to why Will and Marlena don't interact much on-screen?  Because, if anything, most of his family-related scenes SHOULD be with her.

Not that I know of. I have a feeling something got cut in that scene at Marlena and John's apartment. I always enjoyed Marlena and Will's scenes. They have such a great dynamic. Actually, Will has interesting...and different...interactions with both Marlena and Kate. I'd love to have a single Will back on the show again.

If they could bring anyone back, I would love to see Paul back on the scene. That man was sex on a stick!

@Soapsuds Sonny 🐻 back. Freddie's performance was so bad.

Well...to be fair, I'm sure he taped it working by himself from his home and didn't have CM to play off of at all.

Gawd the Sonny stuff was dreadful. The whole garbage of Sonny not giving by up on Wil...please gag me....Sonny slept with every man in Salem while Will was away.  I wish Will had returned to say he and Sonny has split up and he was moving to LA or staying in Salem.

I do think that Will is still a very viable character, but he needs a break from Sonny.

I'm realllly liking Cady as Jennifer. I'm hoping she gets to stay. It feels like Jennifer has a new spunk about her.
