  1. I think the story would have been better if Brooke had actually had sex with Deacon versus a kiss. It would have tracked with Brooke always "accidently" sleeping with men in the past. That being said, Brooke and Deacon have A LOT more chemistry than Brooke and Ridge.

  2. Just started watching Hollyoaks a couple of months ago on Hulu, and I'm hooked! It does so much of what I wish the US soaps would do...a truly diverse cast and set of characters, topical plots, and a lot of story movement. Plus, all of the outdoor shooting makes the show just seem much more "open". Hollyoaks feels like a real town.

That being said, Sylver was an early favorite character for me so, I'm :(

Right, I almost forgot.  I'm on board with that. I'm bored with Paris. Carter/Katie/Bill might have potential. And as mentioned, Quinn seems to be a missing factor in all this.

My issue with Paris is we're constantly told...but not shown...how wonderful she is. All guy's fall at her feet, and I'm not sure why as the character has never been developed. She's more of a plot point versus a character.

I wish her mom would have been more of a "Dominque Deveraux" type character coming to town to mix things up. The show needs that.

  4. After catching part of the show today, I just can't get over how shockingly boring it is. Y&R was never my fave soap, but it was usually solid entertainment for the most part over the years.

Lately, it just feels like NOTHING happens...just boring conversations about business takeovers or how many parents one baby can have.

At this rate, these are my predictions for future storylines...

Sharon decides to use a new brand of coffee at Crimson Lights. Will GC residents accept this change???

Billy and Lily try to determine what the hell Chance Comm does in the first place.

Will Michael join AARP or will he take a job creating legal documents for Victor? Lauren frets!

Victor sits in his living room chair yet again and talks about who will run Newman Enterprises next! Will he pick Adam or Victoria? Do we care???

Abby decides that she didn't create her first child in a convoluted enough way. It's must be even MORE confusing for the second baby! She decides to have another child...this time by combining Uncle Jack's sperm with an egg from Chloe which they'll then implant in Sally Specta's womb! What could go wrong??? Chance begins to wonder if he should just disappear from this mess again.

I mean this has just started and maybe the reason he was so obsessed with Mike back in the day is because he had a secret crush on him.

It would have been great if they somehow would have referenced his Mike obsession, and if Craig said, he'd been struggling with those feelings the whole time. Pure guess on my part, but what if this guy turns out to be...LEO! I could totally see them going there.

Paulina has been a breath of fresh air since her introduction. I'm interested to see how her ex being in town plays out.

I just can't with Rafe/Nicole/Ava. All are great actors with dreadfully boring characters. I could not care less what happens with that trio.

  6. I will say that KKL and SK still have great chemistry.

Quinn being MIA feels like a missed opportunity with Brooke unraveling due to the kiss with Deacon and Paris crushing on Carter. Brooke and Paris are women who’ve gotten on Quinn’s bad side in recent months, and she’d be eating all of this up.

Good point. This would have been a perfect time for Quinn to be all up in Brooke's business...and using it against her.

  7. At this point, I only have Y&R on in the background while I eat lunch sometimes. It's been so dreadly boring for so long now. It just feels like nothing really ever happens.

Curious to hear what other's think...does anyone find all these corporate stories interesting? I'm not sure why the writers think viewers are excited about who's going to run ChanceComm or whatever. I couldn't care less about these boardroom stories. Do people really watch soaps to hear about these people fight over control over these mystery companies...companies we don't even know what they really do! :)

  8. I believe the number of episodes to be considered for the main Daytime Drama category is 35. The number was higher, but they lowered it the year the Prospect Park shows were eligible even though neither one scored a nomination in that category. Since there were only 5 episodes, Beyond Salem wouldn't qualify. If they ever did a longer term streaming show with 35 episodes it would be then.

Oh yeah, you're right about the addition of Mike. That definitely helped keep the story going, especially after Sami was exposed and they needed a new direction for the Carrie/Austin aspect.

In 1996, Jack/NuJenn/Peter wasn't bad, but by 1997, Peter was gone and Jack was stuck in prison for months, with only that dude Trent to talk to. Meanwhile, Nurse Lynn kept Laura drugged up to keep her memory from returning. Jack/Jenn were just stuck the first half of '97. Then when Mark Valley left, Steve Wilder took over, and NuJack/NuJenn were on the run.... oy. Just bad.

Side Note: I remember the early years of my viewing so vividly, yet everything from the last 15 years is a blur, lol.

Another Side Note: How many of us started watching DAYS in the mid-90's and consider Mark Valley to be "their" OG Jack?

Mike under JER floundered until they added him to Carre/Austin/Sami/Lucas and he had great chemistry with Carrie.

OMG...I forgot about the circus story with the Jack and Jen recasts.

I actually didn't watch much of the original Jack's first run. So, in a way Mark Valley was the first Jack that watched for a long period. I think because of that I had an easier time accepting him in the role.

And while I did see MA’s Jack long before Mark, I loved him as Jack.  I thought he was hot as hell and had excellent chemistry with Missy.  Peter was hot as hell too.

I definitely had a crush on Peter!

People used to have 3-episode (150 per year) and 4-episode (200 per year) guarantees. Now the max "Days" seems to be giving out is 2-episode (100 per year) guarantees.

Thanks for the extra info, Jason.

I saw an interview with RC where he said he can only have 12 characters per episode now. I miss those big wedding/town event scenes where most of the cast would be there.

Is it worse than the show just casually killing off Laura?  Does Marlena even know her bff died?  No one even cared.

Laura's death was COMPLETELY pointless, too. And, it had no long-term impact. They could have told the story with Laura just ending up in a coma after the Gwen confrontation, and then have her eventually wake up. For the brief time they were all on, I thought CM, JLB, and MM had amazing chemistry as Jennifer, Laura, and Abby. It would have been great to see that continue.

1993-1994 got me hooked! loved the characters and the stories. it was very smart bringing back Laura Horton after 17 years in sanitarium and the revelation Lucas was bill's son. loved how Kristen slowly became evil like her father, and of course hope's return

I LOVED the whole Bill/Kate/Laura backstory and how Laura joined forces with Vivian to take down Kate.

I was VERY disappointed when DAYS had characters suddenly announce that Bill had died. I thought that was shortsighted and didn't see the point.. Having him come back and revisit Bill and Kate would have been a great twist. Jennifer could go ballistic since she still dislikes Kate for the Jack affair, and it could have pit Lucas and Jennifer against each other. It would have been a fantastic story based in family and the show's history.

  13. I enjoyed a lot of his early run, too. It was totally must see TV! I appreciated his focus on family. The Hortons had practically dwindled to hardly anything when he brought back Laura, Mike, and created Lucas.

I loved the initial Austin/Carrie/Sami/Lucas quad, Vivian/Kate/Victor, the emergence of Sami, and Bo/Billie.

After the possession was so successful in the ratings, I feel like the goal to just get crazier and crazier too over the show.

  14. Wow...remember back when lead actors would have 150 (or more) episodes within a year? I know budget doesn't allow for it anymore, but I do miss how stories and characters intersected more. Now, characters are on little story islands and rarely interact with those outside their storyline. I assume they're working people at their minimums at this point. If I had one suggestion, it would be to maybe cut back on some of the "guest star" appearances. While fun, they do cut back on how much we can see the "regular cast."

Yeah and Marlena's crimes weren't campy like this either.  The church desecration, the falling chandelier, Kristen being tied up naked, etc were all creepy not silly like bringing random characters back from the dead.   Marlena/DH played Marlena's fear and confusion seriously.  I am not getting that now.

I know Susan is supposed to play the Celeste part in all this, but they aren't the same character.  Celeste wasn't a comedic character.  And honestly, does anyone even find Susan funny?  They write Susan like she is mentally unstable or slow instead of eccentric.

I agree that the possession this time is being played mostly for laughs. I would have much preferred a darker Gothic version of the story.

  16. Talking about current stories...I would say the re-possession on DAYS. I was kinda excited for it at first, but I think the build-up just wasn't there. I think it may have worked better for ANOTHER character to become long-term possessed...maybe Allie, Belle, or someone else Marlena cared about, and then it was up to her to save them. She would have to come to terms with her own past as a result providing the character an arc. I can think of any character growth or long-term story fallout from the current story.

Yes. It should've been driving conflict for years. Hell, even a romance between C.C. & Augusta would've been insane.

I had the sense that they were going to have it revealed the CC was Warren's birthfather when it was revealed that Lionel wasn't. They spent so much time setting up a Mason/Warren rivalry. In the end, I'm glad they didn't go there though.
